The New Yorker has written one of the best articles on The Hills eva!
Here are a few of the HIGHlights from their piece:
- "Most of the conversations start with one or another of the girls asking Lauren what she did the night before, and, constant as the questions are, they seem to be asked not out of curiosity but out of obligation, as if the girls were being paid to ask—as, indeed, they are."
- "As for Lauren, she is smart enough to get as much gold as she can out of “The Hills” before it’s too late, and has started a fashion line, for which she has received, naturally, an undue amount of press attention, even though the clothes are sub-Old Navy in design."
- "I have yet to hear any character on the show say something interesting or funny…or see anything that expands my sense of what it’s like to be a young person in Los Angeles."
- "But The Hills isn’t aiming to stimulate or inspire; I think people watch it mostly to figure out why they’re watching it. For younger viewers—who are the intended audience for the series—it may be a soothing fantasy about coming of age, and give them the sense that even after they leave their parents’ house they will still be the center of attention, the way these girls are.
Perez is determined to take down the hills(yet we know he watches it because he knows everything going on) why is the new yorker writing articles on it? How come laguna beach, the simple life,keeping up with the kardashians, newport beach all those other pointless shows didn't get all this attention? WHY IS THE WORLD SO OBSESSED WITH THE HILLS??? HILLSMANIA I TELL U,THAT'S WHAT IT IS. LOVE IT OR HATE IT EVERYONES TALKING ABOUT IT AND SECRETLY WATCHING IT TOO.
THey failed to mention in the article about how anyone interested in fashion gets to see first hand how fashion shows are put together…and how things happen backstage….i think it's great to see Lauren and Whitney going after the careers they both love….although the drama make be a little much…..i enoy watching them move up the ranks and go after what they love….
In my opinion, The Hills has definitely gotten worse. I am a big reality TV junkie and I don't even watch The Hills anymore. That's pretty bad! That article was right- "What did you do last night, where did you go, what did he say?"
Good for the New Yorker. They just said what anyone with half a brain was thinking.
When will people realize that these so called 'reality shows' are just as scripted as 30 Rock or any other show? Come on, folks, wake up and smell your stupidity.

audrina and lauren are hoes. well, audrina learned from her mistakes…but lauren is a HOE for hooking up with a different guy every night!
just a side note…I'm a hills addict and don't even mind the following.. :
there are scenes where Lauren will have black nailpolish on, then it cuts away and goes back to (same conversation) and she has no nail polish, or voice overs where the cast is far away and "talking" but their lips aren't moving…it's hysterical that they try to pass this show off as "reality"!
I could not agree more with the New Yorker. The cast is not at all personable, relatable, or witty. In fact, I see them for nothing more than a bunch of spoiled rich LA kids, who at times actually seem to be jealous of each other. I just don't understand the fascination with this show. Borrriiiiiing.
OH the hills- yes their lives are a tad boring and the convos arnt really interesting …but its a addiction…and girls liek gossip and drama and we get into it…hook line and sinker… LOL I lived in LA for a short period time and checked out opera…thinking it would this AMAZING club…i wasnt too impressed actully. It's funny how a few camera angles make a place seem better than it is…I'm also over this lauren is a victim bs…look prinecess - stop bitching about how hard it is to live in LA in your fab apt that mtv pays for and drive your bmw to those clubs where you get VIP…ugh it must be hard to live that way…really…i feel so bad for you.

The Hills is so stupid, it's fun to watch just to laugh at it…they're so ridiculous! nobody lives like that in the majority of the US, or even LA for that matter! what about the gangs and everything?? just read "the freedom writer's diary".
