Skins may be coming to the US of A.
The hit U.K. TV show is pretty much "Teens Gone Wild" - lots of underage sex and drug use!
We're a bunch of prudes, so of course the US broadcast network version would be a watered down. Unless, HBO or Showtime picks it up!
The UK version is written by a team of 'hip', young writers. In fact, one of the episodes was written by an 18 year old!
A Brit TV exec says, "One reason why the audience has taken to Skins is because it doesn't preach."
Yeah, kids get enough annoying yapping from their parents and teachers. Lettem watch their peers have sex and get high in peace…sheesh!

skins is the best! we get it in Aus, but I couldn't wait for s2 so downloaded the rest. just download it if they're going to water it down. censorship sucks!
Never seen the programme but everytime the advert appears on channel 4 or E4 it makes me want to scream. It looks so very very annoying. I don't get why this programme is appealing. The advert just tries to make it into something it's not and don't even get me started on the latest "should I have an abortion or not" thing. If I see that speccy weirdo who always wears that hat one more time with that girl thats clearly out of his league I will go insane. Rant over. Hehe.

It's a pile of shit, just reminds me of the amount of asshole teenagers in this country who see sex and drug-use behind rose coloured glasses.

Skins is easily the most relevant (to the UK youth at least) TV show that there has been in a long time. While some may argue that it glamourises sex, binge drinking, and drugs it absolutely does not. It tries to convey the lifestyle and issues that face adolescents today, and while of course artistic license is taken to some degree it is the most accurate portrayal of growing up in the UK today (I think as a British 21 year old I am qualified to state that). I think that any TV enthusiast would enjoy this show instead of branding it a bad influence. I hope you guys in the US see it, it is a top quality show. So is Shameless by the way (made by the same company as skins).

Inappropriate shows get high ratings and then ALL shows follow suit and create raunchy shows for horny teenagers with no girlfriends/boyfriends…DUMBASSSSS. What am I supposed to watch on TV then? Skins is a superb televison show that does not glamourise sex, binge drinking or drugs. It is the most accurate portrayal of adolescence in th UK I have ever seen (not that many have tried). People over here slate it, so no doubt in the US there will be outrage! Obviously artistic license has been taken to some degree but I haven't seen a TV show convey the complex issues and emotions that the UK youth handle today in such an intelligent, thought-provoking and stylish way. Give it a go, it will be worth it! Try Shameless too, (which feature in seasons 1 & 2 a certain Mr James McAvoy) another brilliant show. Unsurprisingly Shameless and Skins are produced by the same company.

I am so in love with Skins, but I pray that the US doesn't do a remake. There is no way they can possibly catch the same "essence" of the show. The first two seasons with this cast have been amazing. Those kids can act better than most of the young Hollywood actors here anyway. Too bad they are changing the cast for the 3rd season.

I am from the uk and love skins. Ok so sex and drugs are part of it but they also show the concequences of it. All of the young cast are suberb and it shows you that there are young talented actors about that arent pimping it out on some reality show.
Showing it watered down would not, work either leave it alone or dont air it.

finally…the good shows are finally hitting the states. skins is genius. no two ways about it. love that it shows in 'prime time' in the uk and has to be shown on cable in the states.

Anywho, I agree with the majority of the other comments here: a watered-down Skins might as well be no Skins at all. It's the reality of the episodes that make it so great.

Skins originally aired on freeview channel's etc in England then a few months later was aired on a mainstream channel cos it's so flipping great!!
And hen this series it was on E4 on Monday's then channel 4 (mainstream) on Thursdays s perhaps the same thing will happen in America

what an interesting post. while this may help educate teenagers– not quite sure how, in my opinion, i don't think the US should be welcoming such a show. There are enough problems running wild through teenager's head these days, why should we add more ideas?
i don't think it's a way to educate them or let them learn for themselves. again, it will only encourage them to do what they see. isn't that a parent's job? To teach kids from right and wrong?
understanding that this show in the UK may not preach to kids, doesn't mean they won't do it. i mean hello, do you really think kids won't try the things they see? we have shootings in schools and malls beause people are influenced by what they see on TV.

correct me if I'm wrong but does degrassi have explicit masturbation scenes, at least three free characters permanently fucked up by drugs, explicit (!) sex scenes.
now that I think about it, skins was a lot like degrassi with swear words in season 1, but in season 2 you really get the good stuff.
Does this mean they are going to duplicate it like with american 'actors' like the OC people or the same series just broadcast here? I think the regular cable networks are so desperate for new edgy material that will hook audiences in that they probably will have higher bids than Showtime or HBO.

I just started watching Skins because someone said it was the UK equivalent of Degrassi.
It's MUCH more intense and I can't really see it being aired in the US.

I love Skins. I watch online all the time because we do not have here in america. I love it if HBO or showtime picked the show up. But when it returns series 3 will have different characters and not the ones we love like MAXXIE AND JAL. But I would def watch Skins if it comes to USA.

I live in Australia and we've had 'Skins' on tv for ages now - it is such an awesome show. Started watching it one night out of pure boredom, and it was so brilliantly written and perfectly acted.
I hope the US actually just relaxes and enjoys the show for what it is.

I've watched people doing drugs and drinking themselves to death but I'm clean & sober NEVER done them. I've seen rapes, molestations, backstabbers, thieves, haters and bashers. But guess what! I was RAISED with basic values and the knowledge to understand the difference between right & wrong. It's called FREE WILL. If you have the tools to know what's real & right you don't worry about watching "entertainment"! Those that fail wanted to take the path they have CHOSEN and more power to them that's what makes up individuality. People today just love to be able to blame outside influences for their and their children's failing's instead of accepting the RESPONSIBILITY for their actions!

I think Skins is a great show. There are so many messed up teenagers out there, it helps them understand they aren't alone. I think the US does more harm than good by trying to pretend teenagers lead a happy, uncomplicated life. Skins isn't preachy, it allows kids to identify with them, while teaching that consequences do exist.
i don't like how teachers are portraited but apart from that it's hilarious. i f*cking LOVE it!
skins is my alltime favorite show. i'd hate to see it come to the US, because one of the reasons i love it so much is because they're not afraid to show what real teenage life is like - sex, drugs and all. i literally just got finished watching an episode right before i came to see whatsup in the world of gossip, perez! people should definitely watch the british version online first so they can understand how awful the watered down version would be in comparison.
Skins is Dawson's Creek, but more realistic. Not the stuff you want your parents to think is happening in highschool, but the real deal. I can't get enough.

I am enjoying watchin Degrassi the next generation for my Teen shows lol
everything from , drugs / sex / rape / religion / gay / cheating / jail / eating disorders covered and there about 8450411 characters to watch and its actually enternaining with morals in each story but even the US cant handle some of the racy stories they come up with , its sooo edited for the US , the show is from Canada . but The N shows is here.

Re: Steph – and its a well know fact , that Degrassi it tone down and edited before shown in the u.s and besides I highly doubt High school that Intense like the Skins its seems they are trying to Hard , Degrassi doesnt over do it. Come on I dont remeber High school being that Real like Skins make is seems. I am an '06 Grad so Its not like I am not old sure the issues are real , but Skins is ooooooveeeeeeeerr doing it Degrassi covers each issue but they make it more realist looking. and they did have drug addicts who went to rehab , a school shooting leaving one of the characters in a wheel chair , rape story , suicide , depression everything you can think of BUT the difference is degrassi follows each character in ONE eposide they dont draw it out you may watch one eposide with 2 story line and may not see them again for a few more eposides they dont over due it. Degrassi it my pick , they keep it realitic. and its in its 8th season.!

Censorship is fucked. Why are people so afraid of sex, of the human body? Let your kids make their own decisions, all you can do is be there for them. I have SAFE sex, I drink, I smoke pot (there is NOTHING wrong with pot, alcohol is worse), I've been on 'pills' (which Skins denounces, rightfully so, through Jal trying to get Chris to stop) and I happen to be a very smart and decent 19 year old. I'm not looking for praise, I'm just saying that your kids will most likely do all of the above before they reach 20 but in the end, we turn out alright. It's called experimenting and thats what being a teenager is all about, come on 60s people! Skins is alot deeper than just sex and drugs, please watch the show before you draw any conclusions. The show deals with issues of teen pregnancy, death, religion … don't underestimate it, its a great show and it WILL bring you to tears. Not to mention, AWESOME music! Grizzly Bear, Foals, Crystal Castles just to name a few.

This is not going to do anything to assist any young teenagers or adults with any drug/alcohol issues they may be experiencing.it is very sad. There are enough issues as there are with poor role modelling in society for young people. They need positive role models in their lives to set an example. This will not be a positive thing. It is very sad. They need to think about showing positive tv shows which role model mature and positive behaviour that can still show people having a great time and enjoying themselves!

I'm a teenager and I love Skins. Sure, it has drinking, drugs, and sex in it… but I watch it for the amazing characters and relationships. It hasn't motivated me to do anything except watch more of it. I don't drink, do drugs, or have sex at the moment, and it's not like a TV show would convince me to.
That said, I don't want it to come here. A big draw of the show is that it's so British. Nobody has to have perfect tans or perfect teeth. They have brilliant accents that are difficult to understand half the time, and all the characters are really and truly screwed up. They don't have fake drama like all of the teen shows these days. I have no desire to watch a watered down version of it. It would be incredibly lame without all the conflict caused by the crazy stuff that they do.

I'm so disappointed that they're going to scrap the cast for Series 3. I've fallen in love with the orginal cast, and they provided zero closure. KEEP THE ORIGINAL CAST!!!!!

ummm… think it's a bit obvious the episodes are written by people aged 18, as this is one of the worst shows in television history. Shit production, terrible acting, horrifically bad scripts and giving people an excuse to act like total wankers because they want to be 'cool' like the skins cast. I've been to tea parties more hardcore than anything in SKINS yet todays 'yoof' think its a bench mark of whats cool. Get out there and live you're own lives instead of trying to mimic a tv show. sad cunts.
Skins is great, but they prob will alter it to show it in America…which is a pity coz yes it does glamorise sex and drugs….but sex and drugs are glamorous!
And there are loads of teenagers who live like that. Skins doesn't say whether what they do is right or wrong. TV should stop being so moralising…somebody who does drugs or does something bad on TV never gets away with it…but in real life they often do…TV should hold a mirror up to society not paint a picture of how it should be
So show Skins uncensored in the US!
