Aliza Shvarts, a Yale art major, has done something different for her senior art project this year.
The "artist" has documented herself throughout a 9 month process where she artificially inseminated herself and then periodically took abortifacient drugs in order to induce miscarriages.
The exhibit, which will begin next Tuesday, will include video recordings of the forced miscarriages.

It will also include preserved samples of the blood during the process.
According to Shvarts, her goal was to "spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body."
Students have expressed shock upon hearing of the exhibit. Rightfully so!
Shvarts insists that her art isn't for shock value. Liar. She says, "I hope it inspires some sort of discourse. Sure, some people will be upset with the message and will not agree with it, but it's not the intention of the piece to scandalize anyone."
As for the "donors", she claims they were not paid for their "services". She also claims to have required them to periodically take tests for STDs, though did not want to disclose the number of sperm donors used.
As for the medical risk related to multiple abortions, Shvarts says she was not worried. She said the abortifacient drugs she took were herbal and legal, and decided she didn't need to consult a doctor.

At least this "artist" has one fan. Juan Castillo, another senior art major, said he was intrigued by the beauty of her project. He says, "I really loved the idea of this project, but a lot other people didn't. I think that most people were very resistant to thinking about what the project was really about. [The senior-art-project forum] stopped being a conversation on the work itself."
As for the actual exhibit, Schvarts will feature a large cube hanging from the ceiling. Wrapped around that cube will be hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting which will be lined with her blood from the miscarriages.

She will also project the recorded videos of herself, showing the miscarriages she had in her bathtub, onto the sides of the cube.
Similar footage will also be projected onto the walls of the room.

Shvarts adds, "It was a private and personal endeavor, but also a transparent one for the most part. This isn't something I've been hiding." Adding, that she believes "strongly that art should be a medium for politics and ideologies, not just a commodity. I think that I'm creating a project that lives up to the standard of what art is supposed to be."
We're all for a woman's right to choose, but this is abusing that right.

Its hard for me to read something so insane! How do we let people do this in our country! Freedom of speech? I don't think so! I think a lot of people would agree that this truly is not "art"! A women's body is sacred and there are many women who wish they had the chance to get pregnant. How dare Aliza to have the "artful insight" to do something so thoughtless to our gender, to the human race! As for Aliza and her hormone in crazed body, I hope she will realizes that a women's body is art in it's rarest form and there is no need to intentionally kill to try to make art something its not! To try to make this demonstration a medium for politics and ideologies shows that we, the human race, fears nothing! There is a reason so many people think this is a very sick form of "art"! How dare her! I do realize this comment is just what Aliza is looking for, however it is not politics or ideologies that I stand on. I am tried of people making horrific demonstrations of "art" and being disrespectful to the world for the sake of their own ego! This goes far beyond what her little Yale Brain can understand, but try to explain that to the rest of her body!

(a) its a hoax, as someone here said it was, in which case her acts have provoked serious thought as to the issues of abortion and the extent to which human rights can be repressed.
(b) its for real, and she did have those abortions…if you believe in the womans right to have an abortion, in what way is this different, she just had more than one. would you so-called human rights activists tell a prostitute she isnt allowed to have her 10th abortion?
(c) in what way is it a slap in the face to women trying to get pregnant? if she hadnt done the artwork she wouldnt have had the abortions so there wouldnt have been oportunities to adopt children. Does the fact that she discards her eggs deprive you of any?? Next time you see someone throwing out a rotten apple, make sure to slap them across the face for not offering it to the homeless guy.

I think she's on to something. The artist is utilizing "abject" and "grotesque" subject matter to intervene in society. Many feminists have used this technique to deal with body politics (ie Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovich). Though the artist is potentially harming her own body, she is relaying a powerful message to society: the message that she, and herself alone, has the power to do what she wishes with her own body. This show couldn't have happened at a better time.

ok wtf, this is NOT art. i'm an artist myself…and i do completely acceptable and creative things like fashion design and anime, and I'm all for people who do unique things like make stuff out of old recyclable objects and stuff…but that is WRONG.

I think the people getting all excited over the issue of day or week or two week "tissue" which is all it is at that point are feeding into the artists intent - that is brilliant as it gets attention that otherwise might just be curiosity…

I thought about it and understood why she did it for art but the fact that she is killing life like that is infact wrong. It doesnt make sense why she would do that. So many girls who have been raped or on birth control who got pregnant and are to young get abortions. They do this because they need to go to school, have a future. SHe abused this completely.
