Aliza Shvarts, a Yale art major, has done something different for her senior art project this year.
The "artist" has documented herself throughout a 9 month process where she artificially inseminated herself and then periodically took abortifacient drugs in order to induce miscarriages.
The exhibit, which will begin next Tuesday, will include video recordings of the forced miscarriages.

It will also include preserved samples of the blood during the process.
According to Shvarts, her goal was to "spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body."
Students have expressed shock upon hearing of the exhibit. Rightfully so!
Shvarts insists that her art isn't for shock value. Liar. She says, "I hope it inspires some sort of discourse. Sure, some people will be upset with the message and will not agree with it, but it's not the intention of the piece to scandalize anyone."
As for the "donors", she claims they were not paid for their "services". She also claims to have required them to periodically take tests for STDs, though did not want to disclose the number of sperm donors used.
As for the medical risk related to multiple abortions, Shvarts says she was not worried. She said the abortifacient drugs she took were herbal and legal, and decided she didn't need to consult a doctor.

At least this "artist" has one fan. Juan Castillo, another senior art major, said he was intrigued by the beauty of her project. He says, "I really loved the idea of this project, but a lot other people didn't. I think that most people were very resistant to thinking about what the project was really about. [The senior-art-project forum] stopped being a conversation on the work itself."
As for the actual exhibit, Schvarts will feature a large cube hanging from the ceiling. Wrapped around that cube will be hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting which will be lined with her blood from the miscarriages.

She will also project the recorded videos of herself, showing the miscarriages she had in her bathtub, onto the sides of the cube.
Similar footage will also be projected onto the walls of the room.

Shvarts adds, "It was a private and personal endeavor, but also a transparent one for the most part. This isn't something I've been hiding." Adding, that she believes "strongly that art should be a medium for politics and ideologies, not just a commodity. I think that I'm creating a project that lives up to the standard of what art is supposed to be."
We're all for a woman's right to choose, but this is abusing that right.

In 54 years of (sometimes wild) living I've read and seen a lot of really disturbing things but this has gone beyond some of the sickest. This girl's mind is twisted and dark. I'd love to know what happened in her life to bring her to the point of even thinking of such a thing. In no way could this ever be considered art. Whoever gave permission for this should be fired. If this is what's going on at our prestigious Ivy League colleges then I truly hope my grandchildren will go to local junior colleges and save their parents a bundle of money.

This is the act of an immature student thinking they are making "art" and a grand statement without understanding the consequences. Abortion is a terrible choice for anyone to have to make. No one would want to have to make that decision. To intentionally make that decision several times is disgusting. It's a last resort option, a painful decision, there is a potential life at stake. She abused it in the worst way.

Art is essentially subjective. Although I am pro choice, I think this is excessive, extreme, and disturbing. But I think she does prove a point where she wants to create discourse on the subject, because look at all the comments and feedback it is receiving.

Though some may be able to look past this disgusting display as "art" and have intellectual discourse about this project, most people will dwell on the horror of such a project. This will not spark debates about pro-life vs. pro-choice for the general public, it will spark debates about how art has gone too far. Many will not be able to see past the content of this piece to the "true message" (or what the artist claims to be the intent of her work).

Whatever happened to actually having talent or skill in art? The best she could think of was this? I'd seriously question the art program at Yale– it's about as bad as the loser "artist" (using the term loosely) from Costa Rica who starved a dog as "art". This is beyond wrong! The Sensation Exhibit featuring the portrait of Myra was bad enough. It is inappropriate from every side of the issue. I have not definitely set up camp on either side of this controversial issue, I don't think it is black and white, but I doubt many people will be OK with it. From a pro-choice side, this makes light of the trauma many woman have undergone going through abortion. Things like post-pardom depression, reasons for the abortion such as rape, and others do not need to be made into a side-show. From a pro-life standpoint- This blood is representative of life. If freakshows are outlawed, this art show featuring fetuses and proucts of the fountain of like shouldn't be on display either. It is tasteless and the "artist" obviously has only a superficial understanding of human emotion. Or she is heartless and wants her 15 minutes. Beyotch!

I work in an OB/GYN office and I hope the art is worth it because there is a very good chance she will have A LOT of difficulty getting, and keeping a pregnancy full term!!! Its not the meds that do it so eff the herbal shit, its putting your body through that much trauma. An abortion is a lot of trauma on your body. Not to mention it would serve the bitch right to not be able to ever get pregnant agian after aborting all those pregnancies! But at the same time I have witnessed first hand how many friends of mine, incredible women all, struggle to conceive a child!!
