If papa Joe was really smart he would get MTV to do another show about her and her career and the wedding… that's what I would do if she was my kid… pimp her out as much as possible before everybody realizes how much she sucks…
I personally don't care for her but i don't think she was bad at all. It wasn't AmAzInG but it was good. It's a little harsh to say she should stick with lip synching. At least she is trying

I'm a professional singer and am not interested in Ashlee Simpson as an artist, but I watched this clip and it was far from terrible. If anything her voice could have carried a little more passion to match with her body movements, and her breathing skills need to match her phrasing, but other than that I have no axe to grind here. She was on key and didn't look uncomfortable. If I were her I'd be trying very hard after her disastrous episode on SNL, and it looks like she's at least trying to redeem herself as far as live performances.
All that aside, I've seen way better in the local nightclubs I've gone to, and as a vocalist I've personally put way more power and physical effort into my performances. She just needs a ton more experience and some voice lessons.

And i'm classically trained for 8 going on 9 years now… She has a nice meaty lower range.. kinda nora jonesish but more ballsy… she should consider singing something like that i think..jazzy/blues.. she did sound a bit sore but i mean come on..singers get sick all the damn time.. She's improved ALOT.. before like in the orange bowl or whatever it was called she was SCREAMING and that did NOT sound good..bad technique… but now she sounds rather good.. she's prolly had a crap load of voice training since then.. i mean come on she WAS on broadway..she prolly got most of her training from there and the vocal coaches… and god damn she got really pretty!!! good for her!!

It wasn't that bad… the band was REALLY too loud… they need to work on balancing the audio at the Today Show….a lot of their performances suck because the bands are ALWAYS too loud the the singers are having to scream almost over them.
