Dubai appears to heart spending their oil money in big ways!
We mentioned on Friday that Madonna is rumored to be getting $25 million to do two concerts there.
And now, a new report calls attention to the billions of dollars Dubai is sinking into American-style theme park projects.
Eight major licensing deals have been struck between oil-rich investors and entertainment giants such as Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment Inc. for theme parks and other attractions.
The first big theme park is set to open in 2010 - a $2.2 billion Universal Studios park based on franchises such as King Kong and Jurassic Park. It will be part of an area dubbed Dubailand on the city's desert outskirts.
Next after that, a $1 billion Marvel Entertainment Inc. theme park will open in Abu Dhabi by 2011.
Shortly after, Dubai will have its own SeaWorld in 2012.
Disney has been notably absent from the Dubai theme park game - they claim they're still studying the market.
The entertainment companies who are 'in' on the Dubai game realize that there are cultural considerations they must take into account — their plans need to jive with the dominant Muslim culture of the Middle East region.
So, we take it, a Perezland would be out of the question????

Dubai doesn't HAVE oil money; that's why they have such an aggressive approach to tourism!
It's not as if this is a new thing; they've been developing tourism attractions for years, including stuff like the Wild Wadi waterpark (next to the Burj Al Arab hotel), the indoor ski resort, etc.

The workers are here by choice and yes some live in terrible conditions but most send the money back to thier families in thier home countries thus securing them for life. I am an American living in Dubai as well and whenever I go back to New York I am SHOCKED at how many over 30 crowd that I find myself explaining where it is-even amougnst the Dubai Port saga. But the government controlls the media, so we dong actually really get to hear half the crimes that go on in there. Its deff much safer then america will ever be hands down. If u have been there go to Naif road sometime at night time and see all those hardworking people from abroad sleeping on the benches. This country is way ahead of us in terms of thinking about the future. UAE are very aware that their oil will end in a number of years (Google it). They are preparing for smarter ways to support their economy that does not completely rely on oil revenues.

There is poor people in dubai right but they choose to live in this conditions because they save there money so they can spend it in their country and when you ask them about there salary it's high comparing to what they would get in their countries, moreover our government is giving all of us good services, free taxes , education and free medical accesses thing so it's heaven to them ,, because in their countries they will paying for every single thing where here in U.A.E the pay nothing. The Emirati's are very happy with the goverment here. Free healthcare and free University anywhere as long as they maintain @ B average. I the US we are struggling over healthcare. Dont get me wrong, I love the States and miss it but both have pros and cons. I have lived here for 4 1/2 years now and I am an Aussie with residency. All I am saying is that it I have also spent 2 years in the states and I feel safer here in the UAE than I felt ever felt in the states. What's frustrating me with people's comments here is that they are saying all peop do here is spend money on hotels, theme parks, prostitutes and drugs…I mean come one, doesn't everyone see the double standard here. USA has how many theme parks -
cont: Six Flags, Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm, Universal studios etc etc. ALSO the drugs in USA is out of control, crack, ice, coke, pot. Strippers? Well brothels abound, strip joints ahoy and lap dancers as far as the eye can see. Slaves??? What do these people in USA call the way they treat the mexicans? They get like $2 per hour for working their asses off…..THERE ARE NO Strip joints or brothels in the UAE and whilst there is prostitution , yes it is swept under the carpet to prevent social disorder and making it extremely difficult. Petty theft and crime is zero because the penalties are so harsh. Dubai has so much to offer (and no, not oil as I said before) but a no tax on income, high wages, the ability as a professional to get more experience in one year at a senior level than you could in five in places like Australia and USA.
The economy is booming and it now the central hub for tourists and professionals the world over. People on here who say that the arabs here, the Emeraties, are sexist, rapists etc are so uneducated and narrow minded in their opinion its unbelievable. I am white, blue eyed, blonde hair 25 years old and I never feel that they are doing anything except being polite and kind especially allowing us to bring our western culture to their muslim culture and I have many Emeratie friends here. There are rude people in every culture…the crap that some people spout about rape etc are so dumb as look at the states…..look what just happened with the 416 kids in Texas…they don't know who is related to who! Serial killers, school shootings, rapes etc are abound in western countries however when something happens else where in the world everyone condems them as if they have no blood on their hands. I just wish people would come and visit dubai before making an uneducated 2 second diagnosis (i am not talking about you babes, others on the forum) on what they think happens here when they have not lived here. Dubai offers a standard of life and living i know I couldn't get anwhere else including australia and usa. xox
