Just goes to prove again how different the US and UK markets are. There are countless artists who have made it big in one but bombed in the other. A case in point is Perez's own infatuation with Kylie Minogue, whose recent campaign in the US bombed - yet in the UK they are infatuated with her. Mariah is very popular in the States yet doesn't seem to appeal in the UK. Personally, I think Mariah is a far more talented singer - her amazing vocal range and voice control. Obviously though, to make it in a market it takes more than raw talent. The artist's publicity machine has got to read the market and get it right. Mariah's music doesn't appeal to much to the UK.
