I feel some hide behind fear based religion and think they feel they can get away with things they say others cannot in the name of God. Religion has not always been great throughout history, but when one follows The Golden rule and other great teachings it can be a very positive force in one's life. If you stop judging, create peace instead of anger, stop pointing out other's faults and inadequices, and stop worrying what everyone else is doing, this world would be a better place. Focus on the positive. I believe in an all-loving positive God and not the man-made fear based God that used to be needed to keep people in line. I know inately what is right and wrong. My conscience tells me that. I do not believe non-christians and others such as in African tribes, the mentally challenged, etc. are going to burn in hell. I would not want to follow a God like that. I believe we are all a part of God and we can reach him through our own hearts and souls. This I feel is not ego-driven. ego driven, ignorant, controlling, and fear is what I believe happens when people say if you do not believe as I do you will burn in hell.

I was trying to make a point that there were many people who did not believe in Jesus before he came. Many were Pagan, etc. I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school. I do not believe in hell, people that are non-Christian are burning in hell, and I do not take ost of the bible literally.

Re: Sasha(2) – The only problem with your concept is that you are suggesting that everyone is right about what they believe. This simply cannot be true. If I believe in heaven or hell and you believe in reincarnation, that doesnt mean that when we die, you will be reincarnated and I will go to either heaven or hell. The problem with our society is that we are so used to our freedoms that weve let it melt into our religous beliefs. Yes we are all free to choose what we believe, but no we are not all right. There HAS to be one true way. I for myself pray and ask God to show me what that one true way is, because im not internested in my own opinion, but what is true. I dont see how we could want anything else?

We have so much freedom in this country that we now think that God is some sort of game or some sort of activity. We cannot all be right. We cannot just do what "works for us." Re: Sasha – God judges each persons heart. He knows whether or not someone had the chance to choose him or not. We can NEVER judge whether someone is going to heaven or hell. With all due respect, I don't agree. I think there are many ways to learn for God. This is what I believe. A lot of the major religions have similar concepts at their core. I am tolerant of other's beliefs. I would never think my beliefs are what everyone should do in order to be saved. That seems like a pretty narrow-minded narcisstic viewpoint.

Sasha, all hell is, is the absence of God and with that everything he is-love. God has given us the option to choose him or not to, because just as we desire guinuine relationships-so does he. If we do not choose him then we simply dont get him. It is not Gods fault we didnt choose him its ours. He is not sending us to "hell" we are just not choosing to have a relationship with him. Its that simple.
I think Jesus's teachings were great an I do not take man's faults out on him. My interpretation and viewpoint is different and tolerant. My relationship with God is personal and wonderful and I do not necessarily need religion to give me that. I do not have anything against religion, but I do think when interpreted so literally and fear-based it can be harmful.
A New Earth is a book that changed my life and has also showed me the value in Christianity and all religions. In the end, they all point to the same thing, no matter what u call it. Oprah is a wonderful, open minded being. The video is rediculous, don't see the point in it at all.

Re: Sasha – Well even though people dont like the word "religion" because it is now by our culture associated to dogmatic beliefs instead of what it truly is, christianity is a religion. Whatever one believes is their own religion. Religion- a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Of course hell isnt a pleasant thought, and neither is dying or suffering. But we all do. It is a necesary evil to teach us a lesson. Thats what makes humans different from every other species, is that we have the ability to learn lessons conciously, and that we are always looking for guinuine love. If its not genuine we dont want it, why should we expect God to? Its hard to think about but we do have a choice to choose salvation or not, thats why God sent Jesus. We should be thankful he sent a saviour and didnt just leave us hanging. He made a way, he did his part, now we have to do ours and choose him.
I believe we are all apart of God and when you feel that, you have a knowing that you are connected to everyone and everything. These concepts have little to do with religion.

They cannot be compromised, without consiquences. You jump from a plane, the law of gravity says you will fall, and you will. Our hearts stop beating we die. God created us that way. Things have to have order they cannot just be lose and open to interpretation. God is a God of order. Just look at every form of life scientifically, everything is in order, and not subject to opinion. But for some reason we feel as though we can decide what God is like based on how we feel things should be. We as a people need to stop trying to be God and let God be God. Let God tell us who he is and what his guidlines are, because you can bet just as sure as youll die, that he has guidelines. Everyone everywhere and every living things and its anatomy does too. I believe if Jesus were alive today he would not be a part of organized religion. That is man-made. He would not turn away people that didn't belong to the Christian church and tell them they would go to hell. I believe what was important to HIM are his true teachings. Not the man-made fear scriptures of the bible. Just as He was apart of God so are we. If you want to incorporate His teachings into your life, that is one way to reach God. His teachings were and are a wonderful moral compass. However, you do not need to belong to a church or religion in order to do this. Making threats and only shows an insecure fear based viewpoint of God.

I believe in an all-loving God. He is a a part of me everyday just as He is of you. He is everywhere. I feel being "upset" is a human emotion. An all loving God does not have those emotions. It's contradictory. Is God good and love or is he punishing and wrathful? I feel this is the conflict that you may want to explore.
I have love for God, Jesus, all people, animals, and our earth. I do not necessarily need to belong to an organized religion to feel this way, I feel the bible has truths and great allegories, but also man-made fear-based scripture. I have a relationship with God. I consider myself Christian, but one who seeks truth and asks questions to things that do not seem logical. The fear is only on the side of intolerance and people who say my way is the right and only way. I, and people like me, do not say that. We are secure in our truths and accept differences. This is really what Jesus did and would do if he were alive today.

I am also a Christian but hate the narrow-mindedness of people who call themselves followers of Christ yet have forgotten their own sordid pasts and sometimes their sordid presents - and live to point the finger of judgment at anything that doesn't line up with their fundamentalism (and this is usually through fear because they are not that confident in what they believe). Grow up fundamentalist and remember what you have come from. 'I desire mercy not sacrifice' says the Lord. Remember it was the spirit of religion that crucified Jesus and you are no better, apart from the grace of God, than anyone else, and probably worse looking at statistics.
I believe in an all-loving perfect God unlike the imperfect wrathful God some humans use to partly describe Him, placing human fear-based emotions onto Him. I believe Christ's message to the world was of a loving God, not a wrathful, punishing God. I do not point fingers, I am TOLERANT of other's beliefs even if I do not agree with them. This happens to be a discussion forum and that's what I'm doing. I do "judge" some acts subjected by law, but never the person. If being a fundamentalist means to love God and each other and leave some of the fear based man-made dogma behind, then I guess that's me.
Re: Joyce – Well if you are talking about God being jealous of us He is not, but God did say is in His word. When He gave Moses the commandments He said "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God… Exodus 20:5. He is speaking specifically to those who put things before Him, such as money, a spouse, your children. God said wherever you set your treasures your heart will be also, if you set your treasures up in heaven or on earth that is where you heart lies.
I also do not believe in the total literal interpretation of the bible as in the defintion of fundamentalists. I believe in the fundamental nature of God as all loving.
I often come up here to listen to some of the things that are going on in the world. You can't understand how to pray for the world if you don't know what's going on. God is so real guys. I just wish that everyone could receive the gift of salvation. It is sad that most people won't find out until it is too late. Yes God loves us but He hates the sin. God doesn't expect us to be perfect we won't be that until He comes back but He wants us to obey Him and follow Him with our whole heart. And no there is no other way to salvation. Salvation is free, being that it is nothing you can do to earn it as far as good deeds, but it costs you everything because God wants your whole heart. Re: Capetonatious – I have not forgotten my "sordid" past nor do I have any delusions that I am not a sinner now. The Bible says that once we have accepted Christ as our Savior that our sins are dropped in the deepest part of the ocean and they are as far from us as east is from west. We still need to confess them to God and repent however. No one is loved more than anyone else in God's eyes. God loves us all the same. I too am turned off by those who act as though they have never sinned. I am thankful that God is the judge because he is perfect. We are asked to love one another and told that love is the most important thing. We often forget that. We are too busy comparing ourselves to others and fooling ourselves into thinking that our sin is not as bad as someone else's. In God's eyes it is all sin.
I think it is difficult to truly understand a person's heart or the true spirit by which they are trying to communicate when you read the typed messages here. There are some that you cannot misunderstand. That is true. We are all imperfect people with a great deal of room for improvement. We all have different gifts and different flaws. Admitting those flaws is difficult at times but we need to do that. Be honest about your short comings. It should also be said that it should be obvious to others that the Holy Spirit is living in your heart. If it is not then you need to work on that. We are to be a light unto the world. Not something that people can't stand to be around.

Some of the dabate is that some Christians take the bible as the literal unaltered word of God. And even though I feel it is a great great book, I do not take it as such and many others do not as well. It has a lot of truths, especially the New Testament, but also allegories and stories. Some of us have a more universal, spiritual, loving, take on God. We feel the bible is incomplete and there has been centuries of changes due to what was going on during any given time of history. Someone with an open mind, even if they consider themselves Christian, listens to ALL the great prophets and philosphers, sees the great and wise words in all of them, and questions things that do not make sense and are fear based. They aren't just Christian because they were raised that way.
Excuse me, debate. Seeing God in everyone and everywhere and truly knowing we are all apart of God as Jesus was, listening to the wise, even of other religions and philosphers, not jugding and damning, being tolerant, and not saying my way is the only right and just way. That to me is an open mind.
I try to focus on Jesus's life, not his death and the wise, beautiful words he spoke, showing us a way by example. Love God and each other. Why focus on hellfire and damnation, which I feel is man-made anyway to keep a lost people in history in line? I feel Jesus would be on the streets preaching to EVERONE who would listen if he were alive today, not in any given church. I feel His words are a path to God, not his death and fear of sin. He a a perfect, loving God in my eyes and that could only be without such petty human emotions.
Oprah doesn't give a rat’s ass about anyone except herself. She only does good deed for her own accolades and the only people she truly respects are the rich and famous. Just look at the way she treats them in comparison to regular people. She may help a lot of people but it's only to make herself look good. When she gives things away on her show, she doesn't pay for them, they are donated by the companies that make them to promote there product and as for the money she does give away, well that's just to promote her. Someone wrote earlier about God is an ordered God and I believe indeed he is. This universe is ordered and there are no accients. The debate is how you think God deals with man's mistakes and misdeeds. Is it through wrath and damning as an imperfect unloving God would hand out punishments or is it through loving and forgiveness? Can we do as Christians what we want, and then all is forgiven when we repent? Or should we strive to live up to Christ's words each day trying to do better? Maybe in fact there is a balancing of experience, a learning school where the soul is trying to perfect and learn for God? If we never experience negativity how will we know happiness? I believe God doesn't have petty human emotions. Look at what man tampers with: the environment, others, animals, and alas himself. Probably the bible as well. Perhaps God doesn't want to punish us, but is like a loving Father telling us to get back on the bicycle. Why would he want any of his creations to suffer in hell for eternity? Yes, there can be a balance, when one hurts another, but I don't feel it's the hellfire and damnation dogma sets out for you to think it is. Listen to Christ's words and try to live by them and then you won't have to worry about anything else.
Re: TL – Well the truth of it is, is that we can't take what we want about the Bible and apply it to our lives and disregard the rest because then the whole truth is not told. Yes God loves us, Yes God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for our sin or take our punishment through His death and resurrection, but we must not be mistaken that God is coming back one day to judge. It clearly states this in the Bible. I am so sick of people taking what they want out of God's word so that they can feel comfortable living the way they want. We all fall short of the glory of God and that is what His mercy is for, but yet in still if you haven't confessed Jesus as your Lord and saviour you are not covered under God's grace. There is a difference. Grace is the benefit given to God's children or those who have taken the gift of salvation and chosen to live their lives accordingly. You cannot get into heaven just doing good deeds or doing the right thing. You have to have a relationship with God through the gift of salvation. Mercy is God's pity or compassion. Mercy alone will not cover you against judgement if you are not a born again believer or in other words confessed with thy mouth that Jesus died for our sins and was raised from the grave on the third day. Read the book of Revelelations. If that don't mess you up, in a good way, and make you do the right thing which is confess, except salvation, and pursue God with your whole heart.

Re: Nikitia – I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school all my life and have many friends of other religions who I love very much, have the most respect for, so I would never think a loving God would condemn them for being another faith or having a different viewpoint. I have read the Bible, "The Dead Sea Scrolls,""Nag Hammadi," "The Gnostic Gospels," "The Modern New Testament," amoung other great books of other faiths and philosphers from modern to present. I respect that you have found the way that suits you and you are comfortable with the religion of you choice. I however, have a different viewpoint as I've stated. Do you really feel that the Bible was never tampered with as man has tampered with everything in the world? Do you feel aborigines or babies that never even heard of the Bible and then die will be condemned? If so, I respect that and that is your choice. I however have a different viewpoint.
You are sick of viewpoints like mine, but I am not of your's. I wish you well and peace. I'm sure you think you are right as some others of different faiths do and I'm sure you are good, but I feel we are on different levels of evolvement. I do feel dark souls will not have the freedom we have in heaven and that's between God and them, but my contention is that light souls with a conscience of any religion and non-religion ALL get into heaven. p.s. As you point out for me to read specific scriptures in the Bible again, would you consider reading "The Modern New Testament?" Even if you do not agree with it, it may broaden your mind and then you may have more respect for other points of view. It's always good to learn, even about things that may be unfamiliar, scary, or foreign to you. I Love Jesus' true unaltered words aside from all the political, social, etc. dogma. I wish you peace.

America needs to come to the conclusion. Jesus is coming back one day and he won't be to proud of the way we are all living! What Oprah said COMPLETLY goes against what I believe in! The only way to God and Heaven is Jesus. There isn't another way you have to ask him( Jesus) to forgive you of all your sins that is the only way to get to heaven. Apparently Oprah hasn't read her bible lately. I am going to pray for everyone who has said such terrible things about Christians! Jesus Saves and God Bless!
