I must say that although i don't agree with everything Oprah says in this video, it's just ridiculous what people are accusing her of! I am a christian but although I believe in what the bible says and in Jesus, it does not mean that certain points shouldn't be open to discussion. The people who made this video obviously don't obey by the, according to God, most important commandment in the bible: Love each other!! I am no saint, neither is Oprah, neither are the people who made this video…

I really wish people would stop accusing all Chrisitians of being "crazy" and have this crazy mentality that we're better than other religions because it's just not true. lily's comment #52 is absolutely correct. NOWHERE in the bible does it say God is jealous of us. He has no reason to be, He owns everything! It refers to us putting everything else in front of Him. You won't think it's ignorant when you are standing before God and you have to answer why you called his words ignorant. God himself says that Jesus is the only way. It's not Christians who made this up. It's Jesus who delivered the message to his disciples to deliver to the masses.
I wish I would have read page 8 before I posted. I didn't realize there was another Sasha. I am not responsible for what she wrote, whoever she is. I would not approach things in that manner. My first post on this subject was about being more evolved and what I meant by that is there are those of us who do not think traditionally, but are still good people who think highly of Christ's teachings. If I offended anyone by putting it that way, I am sorry, but I will not be sorry for having my opinions and I do not wish to push my beliefs onto anyone. I just have to say, what a load of horseshit. I'm not a fan of Oprah, but I cannot stand "Holier-than-thou" christians. Crack open a history book people, study some different religions, look at the origin of these things. Pretty much all of the major religions today have a creation story that is very similar. And while there are some differences in practice: Religion is Religion. We all believe in a higher power of some sort, generally it's God (or Allah, etc).
Oprah is not Satan just because she looks at the world around her and acknowledges the differences and the similarities.

Oprah says that she doesn't understand how God could be jealous of us. When the Bible says the Lord is a jealous god, it is referring to God being jealous that people worship other gods. It is in not implying that He is jealous of us, as Oprah inferred. I'm not going to say anything bad about A New Earth; I don't know much about it. Clearly, she doesn't know much about Christianity, and she should do likewise.

Although I do not agree with everything that Christians, churches, or Christian groups do, the Bible does clearly state that Jesus is the only way to God. Jesus states "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me," in John 14:6

I know this will get lost in the vacuum of the internet, but I find this very interesting. Oprah, Tom Cruise and a lot of famous people have one element in common:
They believe that they are truly so special that they have to find their own explanations to everything including God. They have to act like God and feel like God in their life. For Oprah this may mean giving away tons of money and building schools, but she gets something very big out of these positive actions, she feels powerful even God like. Tom Cruise and scientology have rationalized their existence and beliefs to a point where they are above us humans. They are a different race, a superior race. I believe powerful, successful and wealthy people are drawn to these alternate forms of belief because they can’t imagine they are the same, per say, as the rest of us. They can’t be otherwise they wouldn’t have been touched with extreme wealth, fame, success or a combination of all three.
This is a dangerous path, especially what Oprah is teaching because it teaches nothing while trying to teach everything. There is no sin, aka rules and morality, and you find everything on your own. When you are Oprah this may appeal to you because you have everything already, it’s been figured out, so it comes from within. However, most people do not have the ability to figure everything out on their own and just “feel” what is right. If we did the world would be free of crime, war and poverty. The core religions, minus their perversions, are positive forces in the world because they do create rules and paths to follow, unlike Oprah’s Pseudo “religion.”
I pretty much agree with #834 - S. The give-a-ways are free because of the advertising by Oprah. Also, someone who is truly charitable doesn't give for show or announce their "greatness" to the world.

I am reading the book and find it very helpful and informative. There is absolutely nothing demonic about it or Oprah's recommendation of it.

There IS only one way to Heaven - and that is through Jesus Christ. If you do not believe that He is the Living Son of God who died on the cross and rose from the dead, then you are not getting into Heaven, simple as that. Jesus said, "No one comes unto the father except through me", and that's how it is. There are not infinite ways to Heaven. Doing good deeds, being a good person, and loving your neighbour will not get you into Heaven, because you will ALWAYS fall short of the Glory of God! It is NOT ENOUGH to be a good person because a) it's subjective and b) we are all sinners - that's why Jesus died for us on the cross - to cleanse us of our sin! All we have to do, is believe that He was who He said He was, and believe that He rose from the dead.
Call me a crazy Christian, but I'd rather be crazy and going to heaven then burning in hell. Oprah is a TALK SHOW HOST who is given FAR TOO MUCH credit for her own personal views! REALIZE IT, PEOPLE!

Everyone thinks they are smarter than everyone else. If something doesn’t feel good then it can’t be for them and they are too smart to have to be subject to its limitations. Oprah admits it in her video that the idea of a jealous God made her want to explore something else because it made her uncomfortable. This is the whole soul of this debate. Look at the guy who was in the video with her, he looks crazy and Oprah is giving this guy a venue to preach his anti religious views. The idea that we are God and that whatever we do, as long as it makes us feel good and closer to God, is such a bunch of New Age bull. This is all about stroking egos and making money and nothing about actual people. Oprah, for all her success, is not that smart if she is so easily turned against her own religion. Maybe instead of turning off as soon as she heard something she didn’t like she could have tried to learn more about her religion, instead of running to something so easy. And this is the other key. Following these “teachings” makes everything as easy as possible because you decide everything. Harold420 had it right when he talked about rules and morals. Religion is a way to be closer to God if you want, but you have to abide by the rules and doctrine of the religion that has been passed down for thousands of years.
How ironic - Oprah gets into trouble for playing church for a worldwide audience in her quest to save our souls and Christians get into trouble for creating videos that play like campaign ads to attack her for it. Anytime you have people pretending to be what they are not, there will be conflict.

If I want to be popular today and attract Oprah all I have to do is convince her that if you stand on your head and say “I am the light, God is me and I am God” and she believes it then it is a valid form of “religion.” We all bash the Scientologists because they act, say and believe abnormal or even crazy things. Oprah is just throwing all the limits off everything and says “it’s a free for all join me!” That’s the problem; there is no vetting or intellectual honesty. I personally do not follow a "holy path" or practice religion. I was raised in a Catholic home and was taught that God is the creator and He is in all things, but unlike many of the people who follow this religion, or of Christianity, my parents always made sure that I was to never judge a person based on their beliefs, or lack thereof. As I have grown older, I have come to the realization that I do not believe in a God and become okay with that. Many people think that is wrong but I have not changed how I treat people or view my life. I still treat people with the dignity and respect that should be thrust upon a human being. I do not judge a person by whom they choose to love or their right to choose amongst other things. I think that if there is a God, why would he want us to persecute His children and make them feel less than human? This is one of the most disheartening parts, I feel, about religion. Why must we place shame on others because of their beliefs? I never try and tell my friends or family that there is no God, just that I don't believe. I don't preach my beliefs and I don't expect others to try and convert me. I guess, I just don't understand how people can be taught to love thy neighbor and love thy god, yet if their neighbor is a homosexual who had an abortion, they should be banished to hell.
I think that the things that Oprah has done in the last ten years are remarkable. She is a wonderful human being with a huge heart who has nothing but love for everyone. If more people had her attitude and her kindered spirit, I think the world would be a better place. Ignore the fact that yes, she has religious and political views, but we all do. She just has the medium of which to broadcast it. I am in no way trying to put down religion because then I would be a hypocrite, but what I am trying to say is that religion is a choice one makes in their life. If they choose to believe in something higher than them, more power to them, but if a person chooses to live their life as a good person and treat others with kindess, dignity and respect and not believe in a God, why should they be any less of a person for doing so?

This is the whole point of the debate. You do not believe, so you are not part of the debate. It is much easier to not believe anything and sit back and say everyone should respect everyone when you don't believe in what the debate is about. Of course I believe that we should treat each other with respect and kindness. But on an intellectual level organized religion provides the structure for morals, values and ethics. Without these structures, which Oprah herself was taught by us “crazy Christians” there would be no rules. Like the video says, “there is no sin” basically saying do it if it feels good. People attack Christianity because it restricts them and if they don’t want to be told what to do they lash out. Gays hate the church because it excludes them for the most part. I don’t believe in the whole burning in hell if you are gay, but we were put on this earth with out male and female parts for a reason and it is not normal to do what they do. And because it is not normal they lash out at whomever reminds them of it.
The same can be said for Oprah. She doesn’t like some of the teachings of her church so she goes out to find something that makes her feel better. But what if she had explored her religion more? Maybe she would have found happiness elsewhere within her Church, but she was too elite to think that she may be wrong, so she went out to find something that appealed to her and that something is the easiest form of belief. . . whatever you feel is right, is right and is a path. I completely understand what you're saying and I forgot to mention that I realize that my beliefs on how to treat people and so on come from the ideas and morals and teachings of Christianity or Catholicism. But I choose to not believe that there is a higher being that has created us or is telling us to do these things. I just believe that they are the fundamentals of being a decent human being. Treating others with respect and kindness regardless of personal choices.
And about Oprah finding something that better suited her, she has that choice, we all do. I even right now am searching for something that can better represent my feelings and belief and give me a more sense of sprituality to bring a sense of meaning to my life. Something that I can agree with on more levels. If people choose to search for something more meaningful in their life and it just so happens to take them to many different places or on many kinds of spiritual journeys, I see no harm in that. Not just in Oprah's case, either.
