I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.
So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote — and yours — on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?
I haven't spoken publicly ’til now as to who I would vote for, primarily for two reasons: 1) Who cares?; and 2) I (and most people I know) don't give a rat's ass whose name is on the ballot in November, as long as there's a picture of JFK and FDR riding a donkey at the top of the ballot, and the word "Democratic" next to the candidate's name.
Seriously, I know so many people who don't care if the name under the Big "D" is Dancer, Prancer, Clinton or Blitzen. It can be Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Barry Obama or the Dalai Lama.
Well, that sounded good last year, but over the past two months, the actions and words of Hillary Clinton have gone from being merely disappointing to downright disgusting. I guess the debate last week was the final straw. I've watched Senator Clinton and her husband play this game of appealing to the worst side of white people, but last Wednesday, when she hurled the name "Farrakhan" out of nowhere, well that's when the silly season came to an early end for me. She said the "F" word to scare white people, pure and simple. Of course, Obama has no connection to Farrakhan. But, according to Senator Clinton, Obama's pastor does — AND the "church bulletin" once included a Los Angeles Times op-ed from some guy with Hamas! No, not the church bulletin!
This sleazy attempt to smear Obama was brilliantly explained the following night by Stephen Colbert. He pointed out that if Obama is supported by Ted Kennedy, who is Catholic, and the Catholic Church is led by a Pope who was in the Hitler Youth, that can mean only one thing: OBAMA LOVES HITLER!
Yes, Senator Clinton, that's how you sounded. Like you were nuts. Like you were a bigot stoking the fires of stupidity. How sad that I would ever have to write those words about you. You have devoted your life to good causes and good deeds. And now to throw it all away for an office you can't win unless you smear the black man so much that the superdelegates cry "Uncle (Tom)" and give it all to you.
But that can't happen. You cast your die when you voted to start this bloody war. When you did that you were like Moses who lost it for a moment and, because of that, was prohibited from entering the Promised Land.
How sad for a country that wanted to see the first woman elected to the White House. That day will come — but it won't be you. We'll have to wait for the current Democratic governor of Kansas to run in 2016 (you read it here first!).
There are those who say Obama isn't ready, or he's voted wrong on this or that. But that's looking at the trees and not the forest. What we are witnessing is not just a candidate but a profound, massive public movement for change. My endorsement is more for Obama The Movement than it is for Obama the candidate.
That is not to take anything away from this exceptional man. But what's going on is bigger than him at this point, and that's a good thing for the country. Because, when he wins in November, that Obama Movement is going to have to stay alert and active. Corporate America is not going to give up their hold on our government just because we say so. President Obama is going to need a nation of millions to stand behind him.
I know some of you will say, 'Mike, what have the Democrats done to deserve our vote?' That's a damn good question. In November of '06, the country loudly sent a message that we wanted the war to end. Yet the Democrats have done nothing. So why should we be so eager to line up happily behind them?
I'll tell you why. Because I can't stand one more friggin' minute of this administration and the permanent, irreversible damage it has done to our people and to this world. I'm almost at the point where I don't care if the Democrats don't have a backbone or a kneebone or a thought in their dizzy little heads. Just as long as their name ain't "Bush" and the word "Republican" is not beside theirs on the ballot, then that's good enough for me.
I, like the majority of Americans, have been pummeled senseless for 8 long years. That's why I will join millions of citizens and stagger into the voting booth come November, like a boxer in the 12th round, all bloodied and bruised with one eye swollen shut, looking for the only thing that matters — that big "D" on the ballot.
Don't get me wrong. I lost my rose-colored glasses a long time ago.
It's foolish to see the Democrats as anything but a nicer version of a party that exists to do the bidding of the corporate elite in this country. Any endorsement of a Democrat must be done with this acknowledgement and a hope that one day we will have a party that'll represent the people first, and laws that allow that party an equal voice.
Finally, I want to say a word about the basic decency I have seen in Mr. Obama. Mrs. Clinton continues to throw the Rev. Wright up in his face as part of her mission to keep stoking the fears of White America. Every time she does this I shout at the TV, "Say it, Obama! Say that when she and her husband were having marital difficulties regarding Monica Lewinsky, who did she and Bill bring to the White House for 'spiritual counseling?' THE REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT!"
But no, Obama won't throw that at her. It wouldn't be right. It wouldn't be decent. She's been through enough hurt. And so he remains silent and takes the mud she throws in his face.
That's why the crowds who come to see him are so large. That's why he'll take us down a more decent path. That's why I would vote for him if Michigan were allowed to have an election.
But the question I keep hearing is… 'can he win? Can he win in November?' In the distance we hear the siren of the death train called the Straight Talk Express. We know it's possible to hear the words "President McCain" on January 20th. We know there are still many Americans who will never vote for a black man. Hillary knows it, too. She's counting on it.
Pennsylvania, the state that gave birth to this great country, has a chance to set things right. It has not had a moment to shine like this since 1787 when our Constitution was written there. In that Constitution, they wrote that a black man or woman was only "three fifths" human. On Tuesday, the good people of Pennsylvania have a chance for redemption.

I am sick of this adminstration and the Republican party in general. They are out of touch white men who make decsions about the rest of us while they sit in their ivory tower. I will vote for whichever democrat gets the nomination. I hope that it is Hillary because I think the "personality" issue only goes so far. He has no record of any substance and I don't feel that he can lead the country in the direction it truely needs to be. What is disturbing to me is that Hillary can be called so many names in print but no one dare say anything about him that could be constued as racist. Why the double standard? Most white males are threatened by having a women in power and that makes this country a disappointment.

This is so shocking. I know how much Moore admired Hilary Clinton's push for health care (many of his films are almost love letters to her), but he's right: she's downright disgraceful. I used to love Bill Clinton; I remember being happy when he won the primaries when I was four years old, and I continued to be a fan of the Clintons all through childhood, despite a Republican background.
But the Clintons are turning out to be slanderous, smug white trash (I'm from the Main Line: I know it when I see it). Hilary is the type of desperate backbighting bitch that every female has run across and despised since the first grade. She's a vicious little liar.

I live in Philly and am voting for Barack. Michael Moore made some good points regarding Hillary. I was supporting her too but she has really disappointed me with her BS. I know that supposedly she has the "gay vote"- but no one has told me why. Except that some people thinks Hillary is on the DL. I like Barack because he answers the questions and doesn't try to turn shit around to make Hillary look bad. He wants to discuss the issues not hide from them. In addition, he brushed his shoulder off like a pimp in North Carolina- fucking classic.
Clinton's actions as Moore mentions have not surprised me, having read more than one candid bio of their original rise to the White House; and thus my opinion is that I think these two will do whatever it takes to win, regardless of ethic. I've followed and studied Michael Moore's work in great detail for many years, and on the whole have found him to be a brilliant, Catholic, extremely kind hearted and limitlessly courageous thinking man, full of honor and a very functional conscience. He's also as sharp as a tack, and calls a spade a shovel. Out of respect for what I know about Michael, and the depth to which I know Moore does his homework, am going to take a serious look at Barack Obama. You don't have to agree with me. Do your own homework.

What Mr. Moore seems to be ignoring is it's one thing to have Rev. Wright come to the White House to help with counseling. It's another thing to sit up under the man for years and act like you had no idea how controversial the man's teachings are. I've seen publications that come out of that church. Condoleeza "Black Beans" and Rice. Anyone else who is familiar with Rev. Wright will recognize that label. Mr. Moore is caught up in this fantasy like so many other people of St. Obama descending from the mountaintop and getting us all to hold hands and sing. Ain't gonna happen. Particularly not when everytime the race starts getting tight, we start seeing what Obama is really made of — the attacks get more pointed (see today's NY Times) and he behaves like what he really is — a calculating politician who is not above using any trick (race being only one) to get ahead.

Moore and Colbert are sharp - Clinton's (so far unfounded) attempt to link Obama to Farrakhan is questionable at best. If true, bring on the irrefutable proof. If not, then it sounds like just more win at all costs smoke and mirror tactics and disinformation. They DID bring in Rev. Wright for their show of contrition. If there's anything Americans want now, it's the real information, and insinuations will just not cut it. Americans have had enough.

I absolutely abhor michael moore. i had a professor in college named michael moore adn i hated him too, just because of the name. i'm glad he doesn't like clinton bc no one in their right mind should like clinton - BUT. I would like to correct mr. moore and let him know that, while unfor. we did declare that black men were only 3/5th a person for census reasons back in the day - the constitution itself did not declare that - the Amendments to it did. It came a bit further down the road from the inital constitution mr. moore.

Michael Moore has made important contributions through his documentaries to the discussion of many social issues that affect the country. He has a right to express his opinion, but I think he got it wrong on this one.
As someone who did do a movie championing Universal Healthcare, and considering how important an issue it will be on potential job growth and subsequent links to the economy in the future, he should have known better than to support a candidate who has the 'status quo' position on the matter. (namely, do nothing to get Universal Healthcare, allow the big insurance companies to keep their money-making reign over the health/illness of the nation).

Barack Obama's foreign policies are naive, his knowledge about the economy is weak, (no clear ideas on which economic incentives will actually help the country and will therefore rely on 'advisors' who have their own agenda— sound like any other Presidents you know????) and when given the opportunity to make difficult decisions, he's shirked them (voted PRESENT instead of yes or no) time and time again, for political reasons. He's supposed to have better "judgement" which is supposed to supercede other candidates' experience, but his "judgement" when it came to associating with bigots like McClurkin, and with his close association to Rev. Wright were mistakes. Whether he shares their opinions or NOT, there were errors in judgement to continue to associate with them. And in the McClurkin affair, to not disinvite him from his campaign functions. Frankly, he's not the most progressive candidate on equal rights for all individuals as it is…

Hillary Clinton is just the better candidate. She hasn't had the almost religious-like fervour of Barack Obama's supporters, but I think that is because her supporters' demographics indicate her supporters are more sedated; they've seen more than one election, and know not to let emotions about superficial qualities (personality, 'rock-star' qualities) take precedence over qualities that matter– tenacity, political knowledge, legislative knowledge and experience.
Hillary Clinton is not a rock-star, she's not a blank slate that people can pretend is the reincarnation of JFK, or MLK, she's a real person. Sooner or later, people will see Obama is too, a less experienced person. Lets hope its not AFTER he's been named the nominee.
Love him, or hate him, this man shed light on two very important truths:
1. Hillary Clinton is desperately slinging everything she can out of the simple fact that Barack Obama has a personal/religious relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright
2. More importantly, though, is the evidence of CHARACTER, which Barack Obama has shown as he has stood through attack after attack by Hillary Clinton, simply based on the fact that Obama has this relationship with Wright. Any other politician our country has seen in the past 30 years would CALL HER OUT by simply saying something like…"It is true that my family and I have consulted with Reverend White. With all respect, however, Sen. Clinton, if Reverend Wright is such a mennace to society, then WHY did you and your husband choose to see him regarding your personal family crisis in the late '90s?"
Or, Barack could be even more aggressive, and say something like "I am sure that you can attest to Rev. White's sincerity, knowledge and inspiration, since you and your family worked with him on a personal issues in the late '90s."
Simply put, it's important that this country KNOW and UNDERSTAND that THE CLINTONS HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO REV. WHITE.

You know, its become very popular to sit there and accuse Hillary and Bill Clinton of injecting "mud-slinging" or even "race-baiting" into this race. What people don't realise, is that this pattern of personal attacks STARTED with the Obama campaign, knowing that the Clintons were in a lose-lose situation and unfortunately, the Clinton campaign has been made to look like the villains ever since. It was Jesse Jackson, that started with the injection of 'race' into this campaign, when he stated after Senator Clinton's show of emotion—– "I never saw her crying for the Katrina victims"…. which immediately opened the floodgates– Clinton was then painted as a racist. Ridiculous, considering how much work she and President Clinton have done over the years working with the African American community.
But the media picked up on the story, and ran with it, ran with trying to paint the Clintons as something they most certainly are not, and digging at HER for throwing mud, and ignoring the BLATANT name-calling and personal attacks from Obama's campaign– Clinton's a "monster", Clinton's a racist–you don't fight back, you're labelled a racist, you DO fight back, you're playing "dirty politics"….
