Are y'all getting sick of American Idol yet?
Seems so!
Even though about 29.2 million people have been tuning in every week this season, industry insiders are twittering about the show's notable declines in key demographics and average total viewers.
Simon Cowell was quoted as saying that Idol was suffering this year because the contestants lack "personality" and are making "safe" song choices.
But, the industry insiders assert that it could be a fundamental problem — show fatigue.
The conventional wisdom among TV producers and their accountants is that hit shows, no matter how popular, usually start delivering diminished ratings somewhere from Season 5 to Season 7.
Idol is currently in its 7th season.
The report goes on to say that some fans are seeing the program as less essential than it was a year or two ago.
How many times can Americans see Ryan Seacrest insult Simon Cowell, and vice versa, before they say, "Enough already"?
Are you guys over Idol? Is it time to pull the plug? Can anything be done to spice it up in a good way?

The only time i watch this show is in the beginning when all the strange people come out. What we dont need is another freakin terrible pop singer. People, listen to some real freakin music.

Get rid of Ryan! He has NO personality whatsoever. No sense of humor. When he's not reading the teleprompter, his ad-libs make about as much sense as Paula. He sucks the life out of the show completely. Get someone NEW who is funny and energetic!

OMG yes yes yes! I am SO over it. The show is so fake. Diddy's "Making the Band" is more real than American Idol. Besides they spend so much time on these lame people and their miniscule lives. Who cares? We just want to see people sing we don't care about their leggless sister. We also don't care about their clair make-over. We just want to see talent.

I have never watched a full ep of Idol and never want to. One time I watched part of the try outs and was so embarrassed for them I shut it off. I hope the show dies!!! Its ridiculous and tacky.

How many years can they expect Simon to carry the whole show on his back? Randy is nice and likable, Paula is a weirdo but slightly compelling in small doses. The contestants are beyond boring…even someone good like David Archuletta does the same shit week after week. The show needs new blood in the form of of a new host. Ryan sucks. He's so boring and full of himself. Get a comedian or someone funny to host…just not Brian Dunkleman.
Yeah, how about less bickering and more good music! It pains me to watch the awkward ramble between the judges……
Maybe if the guys sang while nude…

I love Idol but it's horrible this season. It's gotten so so so boring. On the first season they all lived in the same house and taped that as a segment of the the show. They should do that again to get more viewers. I'd love to see Kristy Lee Cook beat the crap out of Brooke White! ha

Add more guest judges. I don't watch it as much as I do but I still watch it every season. I don't freak out if I miss an episode like I used to. Get rid of Ryan. He's a dud.
Im over American Idol. I really dont see a point to the show. If you make it to the Top 12 you're pretty much guaranteed a record deal anyway. What's the point of being named "American Idol" if every other person you competed against is also gonna land a record deal?? And theyre also, most likely, gonna be more successful than the winner.
Love the show - the only thing that they need to do is to get rid of Paula… and then it would be great!!!!!! And renewed and we wouldn't have a slurred, drunk, dumbass stumbling through her words every week.. We could have someone that the contestants take seriously. It is a great format for unknown singers and it is a hot show. Should stay on forever as far as I am concerned (without Paula)

that would make the choice pool significantly different-you'd get real music geeks… none of these people who are after fame and have no real talent.
no way…i love american idol. its such a great show to watch and its nice to be able to have some control over who wins. and its cute to really see how it helps people's careers….i like this year how they have little things about past idol contestants and where they are now. one of my favorite shows!!!
It's still the #1 and #2 show every week….something about it that a lot us still LOVE!! Great family time and makes for great watercooler talk!!
the thing is that i LOVE the auditions but once they get to the "serious" part i just get sick of it and stop watching it.

I'm definitely tiring of it but I could see it doing well again if we could just have a break from it for two or three years. Then it could do well again if it came back with the same judges, etc.

As an avid watcher through 6 seasons, I can honestly say my not watching has nothing to do with the talent or lack-there-of. I never turned on this season. Just didn't care anymore.
I still watch it and I still love it. But that's just me!
the idea of seeing an idol in the making was novel at first but now it bores me to death seeing all these contestants being inserted in an american pop star boot camp. they have voices sure, but i'd like to see some real creative talent and see them sing something they wrote, to know that they have integrity in what they will perform.
The show has gotten boring and predictable. The contestants are good this year, but annoying in ways. The fake humility and the over compensating, "Oh, I'm safe? Thank you, thank you…..thanks to my fans," blah, blah, blah.
its simple… if they spent less time talking and just get the eliminations underway… more people would watch. But making people wait an entire hour to make one person go away and getting questions from viewers… that let's face it… are dumb.. then its a waste of time.

I'm pretty over it, as are most people…BUT I think that for season 8, they should have all of the previous idol winners and runner-ups who are presently rejects (not Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson) compete for a recording contract…after all, most of them were dropped the first time, so maybe it will be better luck next time.
They need to start doing it every 2-4 years…it woudl be 10 times as huge, have a bigger talent pool for each season of it, and people would not be as sick. Every year is making people tired. Just think of it, how can they be doing essentially the most talented vocalist in the country, every six months…it diminishes the meaning and value of winning the show.
Seriously…. Ryan needs to stop being sooooo dramatic at the end…. Simon needs to stop with the bright red sun-burning, Paula is sooo out of it, and Randy… everything is pitchy or 'aight. SO PREDICTABLE!!!! Time to take a little break - and re-do the show. Bring some excitement and unpredictability to it. I just record it now and fast forward thru it like 1/2 of America. Does anyone agree with me????
