Are y'all getting sick of American Idol yet?
Seems so!
Even though about 29.2 million people have been tuning in every week this season, industry insiders are twittering about the show's notable declines in key demographics and average total viewers.
Simon Cowell was quoted as saying that Idol was suffering this year because the contestants lack "personality" and are making "safe" song choices.
But, the industry insiders assert that it could be a fundamental problem — show fatigue.
The conventional wisdom among TV producers and their accountants is that hit shows, no matter how popular, usually start delivering diminished ratings somewhere from Season 5 to Season 7.
Idol is currently in its 7th season.
The report goes on to say that some fans are seeing the program as less essential than it was a year or two ago.
How many times can Americans see Ryan Seacrest insult Simon Cowell, and vice versa, before they say, "Enough already"?
Are you guys over Idol? Is it time to pull the plug? Can anything be done to spice it up in a good way?

This is teh first year that I haven't cared a thing about whether "Idol" is on or not. I have not watched and don't feel like I am missing anything, after six years of the same thing it is just…old.
Someone please get a clue. Nobody wants to see this show. I hate the music that let's you know that the dreadful show is coming on. I hate Paula and Gaycrest. The contestants are lame. They get on there, and you never hear from them again. Where is Ruben? They are all just seeking 15 minutes of fame. I'm so over this show. One season was painful enough.

I actually hated the 5th and 6th seasons, but this season is amazing and it has nothing to do with the show, it is the remarkable talent that is on there.
One more thing…Why do these idiots stand in line to audition for a show that isn't even going to get them anywhere in life? The only good thing to come out of it is a free trip to Hollywood. That's it. And that Gaycrest Brad Pitt look alike. Gah, he is so stuck up. I hate him.
If their worried about "ratings" then why don't the just get Britney Spears to host the damn show or be a judge…she seems to up everybody's ratings..Idol is pathetic and so are the loser contestants…BORING!!!
I love Idol and this is one of my favorite seasons, but, with that being said, I liked Making the Band so much more than Idol.
It was over the minute it went on the air. you can't make some one a star they have to do it themselves.
All they look for is the same bullshit instead of greatness!
This show died when it became less about finding undiscovered talent, and more about finding a marketable artist for the 19E record company.
They need to get rid of the plants. Carly has the Irish equivalent of a Grammy. She had a 6 cd deal with MCA/Geffen records. The deal ended when the first cd sold only 300 or so copies. Kristy Lee worked with Arista Nashville. Robbie Carrico was in a pop band that opened for Britney Spears, and he is gay and bald.
It's all very fake this year.
Oh yeah, and Ryan needs to come out.
I think they just need to spice things up a little…personally I'd LOVE to see an "all star" season with past contestants.
I have never been able to force myself to watch a full episode. All I have ever seen was Ryan Seacrest snubbing Simon in the weirdest ways.

They need some new judges, simons cool but need judges who have experienced "good" singing and can actually judge a singing contest!!!

Perhaps if they spaced the seasons further apart, the show would appear to be fresh. Unfortunately, when a show is popular traditionally it is to go into over-kill. If the seasons were spaced further apart, the Idol winner(s) would have a chance to sell their albums, etc. - not thrown over so quickly because a new season starts. Dancing With The Stars will follow suit as well because the seasons are so close together; there's no time to pump originality into the show. At least, however, DWTS judges are more fresh with their critiques than the Idol judges, "Dog, Dog, I just wasn't feeling it".

its getting old. i agree with simon though. if they had some more personality it would be better. it would also be better if they just showed the auditions and then the turn out cuz most people only watch the tryouts and the finale. they should just have alot of different episodes of only those two things witha lot of dif people. that would be better.

I really liked it when they would show the Idol`s out and about you know. Like when they get their make overs. Or the silly commercials. How are we supposed to vote and get into it when we know nothing about them really.Like Musicians that are famous we can watch shows about them and read their profiles. But we know nothing about the Idol`s.

too much fluff. taking calls is a joke. results shows should be a half hour and no one care about the mentors. jsut have them sing, and have the results show be as quick as possible, this dragging it out for an hour is beyond brutal

It's not a real competition. I don't understand how the majority of the people suck on the show except for one. I don't understand how they get people who suck out of all of the people that they interview. That's why I don't watch it. People I know have auditioned who were way better than the people on there and haven't gotten in. That's whack.

Maybe if it didnt last so long people be more interested in and not loose viewers. Maybe not only have them sing once a week and ratings. Maybe if you had them sing twice a week and either do ratings like on friday or just air them out on radio. Think people arent so interested watching taht part show and seeing perform one last time.
It has become the show I flip to during the actual show I am watching. But I love David Cook!
I caught onto Idol late, so I'm not quite sick of it yet. And I have a DVR, so I just watch the performances and fast forward through the rest of the crappola. I can think of many ways to improve: better themes, more well-known songs, shorten the show, have less self-promo/filler. It'd also help to have contestants that can actually sing, rather than people who look the part. Also stop plugging certain contestants over others and let the public actually decide.

It's too bad but I agree that this should be the last season…. the listening to music part of the show is good… but if I have to listen to Paula Abdul slur praises to yet another contestant… I'll throw up!!!
Idol is a good show, but like any other show it loses something after a while. But, its still #1. I'll watch it as long as its on.

Normally Simon is right, but give me a break, American Idol has sucked for the last few seasons! I hardly watched season 5, and most of the people I know forgot season 6 even existed!! The show needs to take a break, at least give it a year or two off if they're not going to cancel it altogether. I think it's partly because it's in the oddest format ever this year - everyone playing their own instruments, and that the top 2 have always been David Archuleta and David Cook and everyone knows they are the only 2 to beat and there's no reason to watch otherwise.

29 million viewers after 7 seasons? I don't think we have a problem here. Even Jordan Sparks has seen some success, however delayed it was. After 7 seasons, they were able to amass the best collection of talent in the show's history. I'll be worried about American Idol when the ratings dip much, much more.

American Idol is suffering from greed (extending a 60 minute show to last 90-120 minutes so that you can add more commercials), Paula's stupid comments, Simon's awful analogies, Randy's dog references, Ryan's worthless comments and digs at Simon, and the horrible theme weeks. The judges constantly say that the contestants need to show the world who they are and then the powers that be force the contestants to choose songs and genres that make it almost impossible to show America who they are. The themes need to go away as well as the "celebrity" coaches. Let the contestants choose whatever kind of song he/she wants to sing and then let America decide who they best.

It's done because who wants to watch a bunch of people who have already sung professionally? We want to watch the average joe grow within their own voice and rise their personal success… we don't want to watch people who already have had recording deals get up on the stage….It's not what the show WAS all about…

Who cares if a bnch of jerks that couldn't make their albums sell before is in a contest for yet another recording contract?? I want to see teh waitress down the street or the kid bagging the groceries get a shot. Each of them look like they think they deserve to be there and can't take any critical input from anyone.
We didn't need Idol for more than 2 seasons. Nothing different is left.

4. the judges should be voting as well just like on DWTS
5. the producers should pick the songs this way they are trying things outside of what they may normally sing.

Oh my gosh, no I don't want Idol to go!! Every year, I tell myself I don't care to watch it but every year, they have someone that I love. This year it's David Cook, I think he's the best that Idol has EVER had! I think people who love music love this show. This show gives wonderful undiscovered talent out there a chance to make it big! Of course it also gives talentless people a chance to make it big (i.e, Kellie Pickler) Honestly, if David Cook makes it big and I can buy all his cd's and see his beautiful face everyday, I don't care if Idol ever comes back on. Noone will be better than David…

There's another factor they're not getting to all this: the internet. I'm watching the performances online this season instead of sitting through the entire TV show and its annoying commercial breaks and teasers. Hollywood is way too slow at catching up to the new reality. Lots of people are switching their viewing habits and drifting away from the TV to the net. Also, the girls this season aren't bad but nothing special either, so I've started skipping their stuff a lot of the time or only listening for a few seconds.
Whoever thinks that David cook is so good this year should think again, everything he has done this year has already been done but not many ppl ever heard it, so it was the perfect opportunity for him to rip off other ppls arrangement of songs and make it look like he was the genious that created it. he looks like he is full of himself and he keeps using tactics to get the pity vote, like when he had high blood pressure, and the brother with cancer thing. He exploits it just to win a competition and thats low really low.
That shows 15 minutes was up 5 years ago. MOVE ON ALREADY!! Let's get back to the Food Network!!! And bring back the retarded Asian kid, William Hung.

The amount of comercials during an episode is INSANE! I tivo it and speed watch it sometimes. Its just pretty boring now and way drawn out with commercials and filler.

F idol. my friends and i stood in line for 3 and half hours and got through the metal ditectors and were 5 feet away from the door only to get turned away because they over booked the show. i am so pissed i took the day off from work and my friends drove 2 hours to get here. f-ing lame! as much as i love david cook, i am now boycotting the show. i would not have been so bad, but the security guy assured us that there would be seats for everyone, then kept us waiting there for another 30min before telling us the bad news. only to let MYSPACE TOM in at the last minute. what happen to no seats? liars!!!!!!
they should change it up a bit…like Trump changed "The Apprentice" by making it "Celebrity Apprentice"..they can't possibly think that it be the same thing one year after another…fans don't care about a new stage..they care about a change in the show itself…
