Mariah has the #1 album in America this week, despite failing to come in at the top spot in the U.K. She only came in at #3, behind the Kooks in first place..
Though official numbers won't come in until Wednesday night, it's projected that Carey's E=MC2 debuted to a pretty massive approximately 475,000 copies sold.
The album had been projected to sell around 500,000 units.

Madonna is "reinventing" herself again. Oh, I mean she's trying to tread on Mariah's hip-pop territory. Madonna is not an original, she's tried so much crap to try to keep up with what's hot at the time of her album's release - and Mariah's kept true to what her music is since she left Sony. You Madonna groupies are trying to discount what Mariah is doing in the US just because you're uncomfortable that Madonna can't pull those numbers where it counts, HERE.

That Should have been Kylie at number 1 with her album X! Mariah has done mostly nothing but mime, lip sync her way through the UK recently and been such a drama queen hanging up on phone-radio interviews when she didn't get her way and i've had it with her. All her songs sound the same now and with news of her leaked album and it still went to number 1. I am truly shocked! It's almost as if she or someone at the record company went out and bought a bunch of copies, that's how it truly seems. Though I don't know how that would benefit the record company lucratively but theory could be a number 1 brings in more sales.

This is very true! I could not agree with you more! I think race plays a lot in the hatred for Mariah and other female artist. The white queens sware by Madonna. Blacks love Janet and everyone in between loves Mariah. Might sound silly but I've noticed it to be true both on this site and in the gay clubs. Also, I think Madonna's fans feel the need to bash other female artist because they truly feel insecure with her short comings and they know that she's not really all that talented.

the musicmarket is dead. doesn't really matter if madonna, mariah or beyonce are going to release a cd. beyonces last album sold just 3 million copies worldwide, mariahs last 10 million and madonnas last one 8 million copies. these are such great results, while you need just 120.000 copies to get the numberone spot in the usa today. so 480.000 copies are massive. i wish her the best.

Mimi 'Only' went in uk top 10 at no' 3 is just fine as far as i'm concerned. The biggest market is the US and she has the number one album there. Will Madonna get a US number one album? Madonna could release an album of irish folk songs and the UK and rest of Europe will continue to support her. To mainstream pop fans in the US she is basically a 'greatest hits' artist. A relic that you go see at Madison Sq Gardens and wait for her to do 'Holiday'. What exactly does she mean to young (under 25 and non gay) masses of pop fans in America? Not very much. Go see her sales figures in the States for last four albums. Mariah has had a couple of duds but she has hit her stride and does not use and abuse musical trends to be 'in'. Although, by pimping Justin Timberfake to guest on Madge's tune was genius (albeit obvious) way to get a buzzed (??) about top ten singles hit in your fine country.

Mariah greatest hits isn't even double platinum & it has all those #1's. madonnas COAD (a dance CD )Sold almost 2 million with no airplay (in America where URBAN dominates)…Mariah could've never of done that. SHe needed J.Dupri to put her back on the map thanks to what he did for Usher which means she ABUSED a Musucal trend.

I think Mariah's album will do better than Madonna's. Here's why from purly a vocal and song perspective: If you listen to the tracks on Mariah's album, note that she wrote the songs herself, does most of the background vocals for her own songs and gives you many textures of her voice meaning she sings softly, then powerful, then whispers, then goes into a low resonance then belts out super high notes including her famous 'whistle'. She offers a lot on this album and gives so much as a real vocalist and song writer. Madonna's album which I heard already is vocally one dimensional. Madonna sings her songs just to get through them. There's no overlapping textures of her voice and Madonna sings her songs mostly monotone with little variation in the key, pitch and tone/tambre of her voice. There isn't even any real dynamics, low to high, soft to loud.. basically, Madonna is limited in what she can actually do with her voice compared to Mariah. So Madonna is giving her fans a decent yet not-so-sophisticated album. It's very basic and her vocal limitations make these songs lesser than they could be because the songs are written well but her voice just doesn't deliver them right. Oh, I have to give her credit for co-writing some of her own songs which is cool.
