Thanks for posting this, Perez. But, maybe it will cause you to think twice about the term you use, "Celebutard." It's better than the old "Celebretard," but not much better. It's hurtful to people with mental disabilities–and yes, people with mental disabilities DO read your site. You are a champion of minority causes, so please become a champion of the cause of this particular minority group by changing that word "celebutard." It's insulting to people with disabilities. Call them "celebujerks" or whatever you want, but please stop with the "tard" part.

I'm just happy to see that you care and are using your fame and popularity for great things. A lot of people read this site, so thank you very much.
For once you have done something right!! Having a special needs son who is almost 23 yrs old you have NO clue what we go through raising him!! People need to donate TIME and just not money to make these "people" feel special all the time!! Its NOT about their "disABILITY" but about their ABILITIES!! That infectious smile they have, they was they always greet everyone with that smile and say HI ……. not matter how rude that person is to them. Volunteer your time to work with these great human beings ……. because they are just as special as anyone else!!
Geez, looks like there's still people out there posting to this web-site that think nothing of making fun of people with disabilities, especially those that "look funny." Not nice. So not nice. A pox on you all that made fun of Corky and said that was a nice picture of Perez.
I agree with what #16 - jane said about la Perez using words like "celebretard." Just stop using the word retard. Perez, you're a hypocrite for using such words and then espousing wonderful service organizations like BestBuddies. Think before you write, eh, Perez?

Best Buddies is in middle schools, high schools, colleges and for adults! Anybody can get involved to help people with intellectual disabilities.

I think the mentally handicapp should be instituionalized, and only brought out for the circus. So much money is wasted on research for them, and they are never gonna get better. Esp. the drowling ones.
donating time and money to people with intellectual disabilities is one of the most worth while things you can ever do with your life, especially time. they have enough money, get out there and make a difference in someones life. thanks for this perez!!

It's nice that you'd post about an organization that pairs people who are typically developed with people who have intellictual disabilities. Maybe next you can post about an orginization that pairs straights and gays, or blacks and hispanics, whites and asians.

The people who are getting your order wrong are the people who are typically developed. No people with special needs work behind the counter and if they did they probably would do a better job than any typically develped person would. Instead of making assumptions about other peoples disabilities you should be celebrating everyones abilities.
I work at "Best Buddies"in florida as a janitor,,and let me tell you my job is HELL,from cleaning feces off the wall{they're like those poo flinging monkey's},too passing out bibs and helmets..we had to switch to plastic forks after a couple of light socket incidents..
I am so glad you put this up! I'm apart of Best Buddies In Illinois and it is an amazing organization. Even if you can not donate money try to vounteer.
Perez! Thank you so much for this post! I have been looking to work with kids and adults with special needs for a while. I looked into Special Olympics, which is an amazing cause as well, but I wanted to work one-on-one and this is PERFECT!!!

Best buddies also has something called e-Buddies where you have a penpal type relationship, but through e-mail. I've had an e-Buddy for 1 1/2 years and it's been great. All email communication is routed through e-Buddies first, so neither of you know the other person's actual email address. It's for the safety of all involved.
This is a most worthwhile cause and everyone should participate.. WHAT WOULD BE EVEN MORE WORTHWHILE, WOULD BE IF YOU ISSUED A PUBLIC APOLOGY FOR REFERRING TO SPECIAL NEEDS PEOPLE AS "RETARDS". Don't cha think,HMMMMMM?

These members of our community are wonderful. Your life would take on such a whole new level of satisfaction if you are fortunate enough to be honoured with these individuals. I have been blessed to be apart of many individuals with mental disablities, I can tell you it is so real. They don't play head games, they aren't interested in using you for your money, car or what they can get from you. They just want to give love and be loved. Lee Ann

I joined this about 6 months ago and did a little bit of fundraising - a little is better than nothing. Great that you mention this! I plan on getting my son invloved in with his school, when he reached middle school! Way to go Perez!
Its pretty sad some of the comments that people leave on here. I have a downs syndrome brother that past away a year ago yesterday and he was the most genuine person i have ever met in my life. There is no other bond that is like the bond that one has with a special needs person. To all of the mothers out there with special needs……. YOU ROCK! The people in the real world have no clue what its like to take care of a special needs person. Its not like they turn 18 and move out and move it. Its for life and its hard but the love that they give you in return is priceless. People please stop being so ignorant and grow up! i don't mean to sound controversial,but people with special needs are not equal.they're no less a person,but they cannot be treated equally,hence the term speical needs.and yes,i'm sure every parent with a special needs child loves them very much,but in their hearts,if they were honest,they'd have to admit that if they'd had the choice they wouldn't have chosen their child to be in any way disabled.
i find it quite impressive that perez is supporting this charity…its far more real and important than any other charity…usually he is only interested in charities that reflect any issues he may have.

someone i know got punched by someone with special needs,a grown man no less,she had to have stitches he hit her so hard.yet the carer thinks that simply sending flowers is enough to make ammends.wrong.she is pressing charges.
