Famous Grizzly Bear Kills Trainer

How sad.
Stephan Miller, a 39 year old animal trainer from Big Bear Lake, CA, was attacked by a grizzly bear on Tuesday at the Predators in Action wild animal training center.
Two other handlers were working with the 5 year-old bear, named Rocky, when it attacked. The other two were able to pepper spray and subdue Rocky.
Luckily, there were no other injuries.
You've probably seen Rocky before. It's the same grizzly bear featured in Will Ferrell's film Semi-Pro, in which Ferrell appears to wrestle with the bear.
What could have gone so wrong???
Officials arrived to investigate the incident and Fish and Game spokesman, Harry Morse, said yesterday that his department would not decide whether Rocky would be euthanized since the attack occurred outside its jurisdiction.
It may be up to the San Bernandino county animal care officials to decide Rocky's fate.
Poor thing. He didn't asked to be locked up and trained like pet. He's a wild animal, after all. You can't really ever predict what they're going to go.

Eerily enough, Randy Miller, the owner of the training location and cousin of the attacked trainer, was quoted in the local newspaper in February as saying Rocky is "the best working bear in the business." But continued by stating, "If one of these animals gets a hold of your throat, you're finished."
What will happen to poor Rocky???

A bear, who is a natural predator, kills his trainer and they want to kill the bear for acting on instinct? Bears are not meant to do cutesy tricks to impress people. This is an outrage. The bear should be relinquished to a wildlife sanctuary if anywhere. Killing his trainer is no reason to kill the bear. You cannot impose our human moral of "thou shall not kill" on such an animal because it's their fucking nature!

Blame people who take an animal out of its natural habitat and try and make it do tricks so the human's can make a profit. This is why we should never take wild animals and try to train them for shows. There is a reason they are called WILD. I feel sorry for all the animals in zoos and cicus's and such. Wild animals do not need to be caught and then tried to be domesticated. They should not kill this poor Grizzly but the sad part is that he more than likely cannot be released back into the wild after being out of it for so long. The will most likely put him down and that isn't right.

Hell no they shouldn't kill Rocky. He's a fucking wild animal. Incidents like this should be expected if not planned for when working with a wild animal. They aren't meant to be our friends really. They still have their instincts afterall. It is sad that the trainer died, but I'm sure he knew the possibility of danger when he chose this as his career.

My best friend used to work at predators in action. This is a tragedy for all involved. A lot of the animals were rescued from previous owners who mistreated/ neglected them, and Randy took really good care of them. Look at all the facts before you place blame!!!
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! The chance that Rocky could injur or kill someone was a very real risk they assumed when holding a WILD animal in captivity to "train"! There's a reason they are called "WILD" animals! It's horrible and sad that someone's life was lost. Unfortunately, it's too late to make a change to that outcome. It's not however too late to make some kind of reasonable, RESPONSIBLE decision regarding that bear. It's probably not reasonable to release the bear into the wild at this point (he may never survive), but they could take the responsible route and move him to some sort of wildlife sanctuary where he's not stuck in a cage for the rest of his life!

Yes, but not because he killed his trainer. Because it is a human-identified wild animal that can't be returned to the wild, and can never work with people again, and it is inhumane to keep a Grizzly bear in captivity. A gentle euthanasia for Rocky is best.

I agree with you Perez, I mean it's really sad that Mr. Miller died, but what right do humans have in the first place locking a creature up like that away from its home? If humans hadn't polluted the world as much as we have, we'd be out there in the wild against that bad boy with nothing more than a spear and a bow and arrows. They better not kill it, of course yes it is endagered, but also because calling it "euthanizing" is really just a euphimism for killing it. And even so, my understanding of the word euthanize is that the person dying has agreed to that death and asked for assistance. hmmm somehow I don't think thats what Rocky wanted….

Unfortunately it would be the responsible thing to do to euthenize the bear. Once an animal like this has killed a human it has learned that we are below them in the food chain and that they can kill us for food if they so desire. ..And they will. Therefore he can never be released back into the wild and it certainly wouldnt do any good nor would it be at all safe for him to continue training with his trainers. No one will hire a killer Grizzly to work in their films.
