The Madonna vs. Mariah Carey battle has been going on for a while. Who will sell more albums, break more records????
Now, it turns out both ladies will be competing against each other….with their new films.
Both Madonna and Mariah have films screening at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.
Whose will be better?
Madonna's film, I Am Because We Are, is set to premiere this Thursday at 6 P.M. It focuses on the severe issues in Malawi. Thankfully, she doesn't act in it.
The quick synopsis: "In a country of 12 million people, an unprecedented one million-plus children have been orphaned by AIDS, and malnutrition and inadequate medical treatment still run rampant. The multitalented Madonna assumes one of her most impactful roles yet as writer, producer, and narrator of this eye-opening and heart-wrenching documentary."
Sounds good enough to watch.
Mariah is also premiering her film, titled Tennessee which will play for the first time on Saturday.
Tennessee is the story of two brothers, one dying of leukemia, who go on the road to find their abusive father in hopes that he might be able to provide a bone marrow transplant. "Car trouble in Texas leads Carter and Ellis to make the acquaintance of a diner waitress, Crystal [Mimi], who has her own demons to flee and singing dreams to pursue in Tennessee. The relationship that brews between the three is a heartwarming, contemporary spin on the American road movie."

You know, to both of these women- if they're going to focus on a cause. They need to start in the US. There are growing issues right here in the US that need to be told that are also heart wrenching and horrible in many cases. I feel for countries outside of America but both of you are Americans (I believe) and the plight of America's trouble should be told first then everyone else.

Everyone wants to focus on "Glitter" but Mariah was in a film called "Wisegirls" the year after and she was impressive - personally this is an apples and oranges comparison Perez - Madonna isn't in her film (and we know how well she has done in her forays in film) I think both will be impressive in their respective films - Hey, Madonna is focusing attention on an inexcusable situation and Mariah is in a film that somewhat mirrors her character in Wisegirls so they should both be winners - Mariah on a more personal level and Madonna on a more humanitarian level - Loud Clap for both

Madonna is passable for an actress - though she isn't exactly Meryl Streep, her movies at least have the potential of being meaningful and watchable.

I think Madge's will either be majorly or marginally successful. I think her problem is the film focuses on the entire AIDs in Africa problem. People have a much easier time relating to films where you focus on one person's suffering in a crisis (Kite Runner, Life is Beautiful, Lux in Virgin Suicides, even Titanic) than when you spread yourself thin by being too vague.
