What If…

Filed under: Barack Obama > Hillary Clinton

wenn-hill-barack__opt.jpg

Being in D.C. and at the White House Correspondent's Dinner has got us thinking….

Florida and Michigan NEED to be counted in the Democratic presidential nominee selection process!

There HAS to be a revote in each state!

So, the question is: who will fund it?????

Well….

What if Bill Gates fronted the money, which would cost way less than $50 million for both states????

And, if not Bill Gates, then Ron Burkle or some other billionaire???

Somebody needs to STEP UP TO THE PLATE for democracy and make sure that the voters in Florida and Michigan are heard!!!

The voters should not have to pay the price for the mistakes their state party leaders made!!!!!!!!

I live in MI and the reason we did not follow the rules is because our woman governor, Granholm, only wanted people to vote for Hillary, so I cannot attest to why FL did so, but that is why we did. The peoples votes NEVER COUNT ANYWAY, so what is the point…boycott the voting process.then maybe our voices will be heard.

ahaha are you kidding me perez? they broke the rules which the clinton campaign agreed to. It's too late. The obama campaign will control the credentials committee at the DNC in Denver so they won't be counted. I feel sorry for you lesbians.

Perez, you are still not understanding that Obama and Hillary both signed contracts stating that THE TWO STATES WILL NOT COUNT! There doesn't need to be a re-vote, no matter what happens in either state Obama will still win the nomination. Either way your Hillary is out, regardless. She'd have to win more than 70% of those votes, not gonna happen.

You think he doesn't know most of his supporters are too besotted to do a simple search and find that he accept more money from _oil_ executives_ than any of the candidates??

    Re: jaja
What they are also not saying is that all the Dems in Michigan that voted Republican knowing that their votes for any Dem wouldn't count, would not be allowed to vote in any recount. So much for letting every vote count. It's a desperate move for Hillary to try and play the blame game, and make everyone else out to be the bad guy when she signed an agreement along with Obama to not have those states count. We do not need that kind of politics anymore after 8 years of Bush.

  9. Joseph says – reply to this

    309

Perez you need to stick with the celebrity gossip, and let people who know something politics deal with. Obviously Michigan and Florida BROKE the rules so they lost the delegates. Obama wasn't even on the ballot, because he has character unlike Clinton. She's a liar and just tells everyone what they want to here. Rules are rules, and they broke them!

  10. mandi says – reply to this

    310

Just because Hillary won those states then doesn't mean she'd win them now. I'm not really for a revote because they/Hillary intentionally broke rules, but I'm not sure why she's fighting so hard because I think her stupid ass would lose.

  11. lucy says – reply to this

    311

thats their own damn fault…it was their choice not to count them in the first place…tough shit

  12. Hillary says – reply to this

    312

Save it. Your candidate agreed to the rules, too. Blame your woman Hillary. Now she claims those people are being 'disenfranchised', after she was happy to vote to disenfranchise them when she agreed to the rules, which… wait for it… disenfranchised them. That, however, was before she was in desperate need. That's hypocrisy!

    317

Why won't Obama agree to a RE-Vote? … Because he's a scared little girl hiding behind Michelle's Obama's skirt … he doesn't want to give more evidence to support Hillary's argument that he can't carry large democratic states. Guess what Obama - the votes WILL count in FL & MI this November and both states will go red with your name on the ticket.

Obama is even more scared to debate Hillary before May 6th because he's awful at it. HOW DOES HE EXPECT TO DEBATE MCCAIN IF HE CANT DEBATE HILLARY.

what a wimp of a man. Michelle Rodriguez is more of a man than he is.

  18. PA Voter says – reply to this

    318

There is no need for anyone to spend any money. Just COUNT THE VOTES!!!
Obama lost badly in Florida and he withdrew his name from Michigan, expecting a weak showing.
There were millions that voted, millions of people went to vote that day before/after work and how can anybody tell them that their vote doesnt count?

  19. Kasey Katz says – reply to this

    319

That's right. Sure, Bush went whining to his daddy's buddies in the US Supreme Court, "Daaaa-dddeeee! Make me president!" back in 2000 and there were shenanigans galore, but also the Florida elections leaders have kept voting there in shambles ever since. It's about time to re-enfranchise Florida voters. They've been disenfranchised long enough.

Then in 2004, there were shenanigans in Ohio. Now, they want to disenfranchise Michigan's voters too. Nah, that's not right.

How many states will vote and then not get their votes counted before we start to realize we are losing one of the only rights we have left?

  20. MP says – reply to this

    320

Who cares if they vote or not? Voting in the primaries is absolutely useless, because the people who decide who will be the candidates are not the voters, but the party delegates, and the party delegates will do what politicians always do: they'll vote for the person who guarantees them more years in power and more money.

The fact is that the US voting system is a thinly veiled FARCE. THE VOTERS HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DECISION POWER.

And even sadder is that you Americans still don't realize that.

  21. this is crazy! says – reply to this

    321

NO. How is it that everyone is buying into this FL and MI aren't being counted business? Last fall when everyone thought that the election would be sewn up by super Tuesday, states were tripping over themselves trying to move their primaries earlier in the season to get the attention and campaign promises that pre-Super Tuesday states get. Now that we've seen competitive primary races in something like 42 states (and we've all been hearing about these contests for months), the fact that the STATES KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING and BROUGHT THIS ON THEMSELVES is getting lost in the shuffle. Hillary also knew what she was doing - she intentionally kept herself on the ballot when none of the other 8 candidates (at the time) did; changing the rules now is simply. Not. Fair.

$50 mil would be better spent on lobbying for an election system that is more modern and rational, less whimsical and rooted in old-time farming customs.

Please, I beg of you, see Hillary for what she is doing. She is good at what she does, but ruthlessly attempting to change the rules halfway through the game is not democratic. Period.

  22. LALALA says – reply to this

    322

You just want a do over because those are Billary states.
I don't think they will go in her direction this late in the game.
Well…maybe FL, cause of all the old people.

  23. Common Sense says – reply to this

    323

Perez - There are too many problems. For example, in Michigan, many people who knew the Democratic results would not count voted in the Republican primary. If there is a re-vote, what happens to them? It's against the state Constitution to vote in more than one party's primary. So do they get tossed aside? And it won't make any difference anyway. Even if the bogus results counted, which would be totally unfair, I think Hillary might have a net gain of 30-40 delegates - not nearly enough to catch Obama, who should probably win most of the remainnig contests anyway. Why should ANYBODY pay $50m for a re-vote when it's not likely to change the outcome anyway??

    324

Re: Tiffany – He's only debated her 21 times already. It's become a sideshow. Get over it! And even if Hillary got the delegates from the BS non-elections, she would barely make a dent in Obama's delegate lead. It's O-V-E-R.

    Um,
Why would Bill Gates, a Republican, help out the idiots in the Democratic party who can't even run a primary election, never less a country. Put the Dems in charge of Congress and what do we have a few months later….Recession!!!!! Good Job Dems.

ok you idiot, congress is not responsible for the recession. the 7 years prior of bush spending all our money on war and not tending to our fragile economy are to blame. it is absolutely moronic to say congress is responsible after that short amount of time. this was a long time coming and the greedy republicans are to blame jackass.

  28. Ji says – reply to this

    328

First off, if you're going to talk about politics and Democratic candidates, I urge you to do your homework. The Democrats aren't counting Florida and Michigan because their representatives (yes, state Dems were involved in this one…) decided to move up their primary and were warned against doing so (Note: it should be noted that Clinton surrogate McAuffile–don't quote me on the name–advocated stripping MI of their delegates in '04 when Senator Levin wanted to move up their primary).

Second, even IF we found a fair way to count MI & FL, HRC would not beat Obama in delegate count–wait….the only way she would is if you counted MI, but Obama wasn't even on the ballot in MI. So in that case, she wouldn't.

  29. bathory says – reply to this

    329

Maybe Obama will fund it, since he's trying to buy the nomination by outspending his rival. Obama is a whiny baby; "Clinton this and Clinton that boo-frickety-hoo". What does he think the Republicans are going to do to him? He is untried, untested, and NOT ready to be President. Think, people. Don't be baffled by bullshit.

I live in Florida and didnt even vote in the primary because I knew it wasnt going to count, so why bother…..and I can tell you alot of my friends did the same. Hillary campaigned here even though she knew it wasnt going to count, Obama didnt. She agreed just like everyone else that it wouldnt count, and is now pouting because she is behind and needs the delegates. Sure, she won the state, but how many delegates would she REALLY net from it?? An extra 10…12? She would still be behind Obama, and with the next few primaries coming up will continue to trail him further and further……damn, when you are dead lie down!!

  33. Jamie says – reply to this

    333

Hey idiot, since you are big shot political commentator now (or not) why dont *you* fund the money for a re-vote? Isnt the Clinton campaign paying you enough to endorse her on her website? Oh wait, that's impossible since she's BROKE. Can't even manage her finances from her presidential campaign yet people trust her to manage our country's finances????? Good lord, save us all.

    BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in MI and Granholm messed up…per the norm here in the good ol mitten. She can't hold her own state together and thank god, us tax payers wouldn't be the ones to pay for another vote. A revote is ridiculous.

    GO REPUBLICANS!

  36. summer says – reply to this

    336

No Way!!!! What a waste of money! Rules are rules, both candidates and all of the states agreed to them. I am SICK of this whole line of bs. When this whold process started I was excited that a dem could win this election. Now Hillary is losing it for the dems. It's impossible for her to overtake Obama in pledged delegates, even if she wins the remaining primaries by a margin of 60/40, which she won't. If Hillary can't be president, then no dem can be president. It sickens me! I was a John Edwards supporter and I am as liberal as they come, but DAMN that woman will never get my vote after all of this.

  37. Bart says – reply to this

Hillary & Barack AGREED to not count FL & Mi votes BECAUSE they changed their primary dates. They signed an agreement. Obama's name didn't go on the ballot. She won for that reason. NOW because she is so totally losing she wants to renig on her agreement & count the votes. When is her word good???????????

  42. Havok says – reply to this

Someone is gonna win and lose either way so $50 million would go down the drain!!!

  48. getabrain says – reply to this

    348

Does it really matter about Florida and Michigan. The way the DNC set up the rules, no one's vote counts. No matter how the states vote, the "superdelegates" get to decide. They are the only votes that count, and that will decide the Dem race. All you stupido's out there running to vote in the primary, hilarious.

  49. BB says – reply to this

    349

No - they broke the rules, they're out. The people in those states elected those officials and now they are stuck with them.

Hillary is so crazy, first she agrees not to count those votes and now that she is losing she wants to count them, NOT!!

How about that sniper fire Hillary - hysterical. What a big fat liar.

  50. Gil says – reply to this

    350

I think if you as a voter voted that Democratic official into office then you have to take responsibility for your choice and the choices that those state officials make to break rules. Do Rules not apply in a Democratic society? or for that matter do Laws? I mean this is the Democratic process deal with it.

Could that make even the Obama worshipers stop and THINK??!!
You really want Mccain in the White House, Barack supporters, do you??? Or do you just want to beat Hillary? Get a grip and get real, or we'll have 4 more years of Bush.
