I find this comparison to be right on. I do not find the VF pic to be very flattering. For Annie Lebowitz to pick that shot for the cover was weird to me. There were many more flattering shots.

For all of you saying that it is not a "slutty" image…bed head, smudged lipstick, and wrapped up in a sheet is very suggestive. As a young girl in her position, I do not think that she should have approved this shot. My twelve year old sister IDOLIZES Miley, and my mother called me yesterday telling me that my sister asked to have her picture taken like that too. When you're a role model to young girls, you HAVE to know when to say no, and it seems that neither Miley nor her parents know that. That's a shame.
Also, she probably should not have worked with Annie Leibovitz if she was trying to be cautious. Annie is known for going for the controversial; that's what makes her a great photographer.

Perpetuating the idea that someone is a slut because they dress a certain way or look a certain way is just another way to perpetuate hate. It's terms like slut and whore that go along with the phrase "she was asking for it" and she got what she deserved". Instead of calling this girl who other girls think of as a role model, a slut, when they already want to be like her, possibly creating the desire for them to also be "sluts" maybe parents should take the time to explain the photos. Why they are artistic, show other photos from that photographer, maybe take them to an art exhibit and educate them on the human form and why it has been concidered art thoughout time. Use a situation like this as a learning tool instead of allowing your children to just see what the media mongers are saying about her and letting the TV parent your children once again.
