YOU KNOW…it's sad that people are becoming less and less cultured…as for her voice..i'm sure it IS beautiful, but if you listen to the song, it wasn't supposed to be beautiful. she's supposed to be tired, vulnerable, unhappy…but to the world she is supposed to be happy–hiding behind a fascade.
if you knew anything about the album and anything about Tom you would know she did this 100% proud. I like it very much…but then again i think tom waits is a genius.

I love Scarlett Johanson she's a wonderful actress but I'm sorry to say she is not a very good singer. It was rather painful to watch the music video I had to stop it half way through.

Deep in my heart I feel like she is an intelligent and not self-centered women, but whoever's idea it was to have such a self-centered video on top of a mediocre song should be fired. the world knows Scarlett is beautiful, do we need to see a video from beginning to end about her "intense" life and the realities of her life as an actor…..its so phony melodramatic.
Am I the only one that thinks this is kinda great? She chose something not of the ordinary and I commend her for that. Also the music is richly produced. Being a composer/producer myself, I think she actually contributed something to the music community unlike so many others that have tried before.

Re: Rodrigo – Yes, thank god you don't live in the USA. Sorry but Scarjo's song is crap and I abhor American Idol. Some singers don't have "pop" voices (I am thinking of JG, Dylan, even Waits himself) but they have soul and they draw you into the song. Scarjo's album is a self-indulgent waste of effort on the part of the record company and contributing artists.

WOW, I thought her voice was good, the lyrics were good, however, the music video sucked. I don't understand how her putting on makeup throughout the video correlated with the song. But whatever, I think she sang pretty fucking good compared to the shit that most ppl here listen to.

Hrmm. The production quality of the video is spectacular but it doesn't even sound like singing. I guess that raspy voice of hers doesn't come across so well in song. We should call it spoken word.
Okay, that was total crap!!! At least make your first song and video something interesting. And was that even singing???? She sounds better when she's just talking and that's about all. It sounded completely out of tune!! Stick to acting Scarlett…and do some better movies too. Girl with a Pearl Earring was great and Lost in Translation. But since then, everything else kind of sucks.

This style is very much influenced by Nico / Velvet Underground. She may not have the strongest voice but her producers are excellent. I'd much rather listen to this than 95% of the new crap out there.
