The international press is abuzz about an Austrian woman (named Elisabeth F. by authorities) who was imprisoned AND raped by HER OWN FATHER (called Josef F.).
This went on for 24 years!!!!!
Wait. It gets more disturbing.
According to reports, the woman gave birth to seven children by her father.
Three of the children, now aged 5, 18 and 19, lived in the dungeon with Elisabeth and had never seen the light of day until the eldest was recently taken to the hospital because of a severe illness.
Police said Josef, an electrical engineering technician by training, had told investigators how to enter the basement dungeon through a small hidden door, operated by a secret code which only he had known.
WTF?????
According to Elisabeth, Josef had lured her into the basement of the block where the family lived in Amstetten, Austria, on August 24th, 1984, and allegedly drugged and handcuffed her before locking her up in the dungeon. A police spokesman said she was "psychologically extremely disturbed", but her version of events was "completely believable".
Elisabeth's disappearance in 1984 was treated as a teenage runaway case.
Elisabeth's mother, Rosemarie, who lived in the family home with her father, supposedly did not know their daughter was being held captive in the home dungeon and sustaining the alleged abuse.

I also find it hard to believe that the mother didn't know anything. Apparently, he was very despotic and had forbidden her and the kids she raised to ever enter the cellar. I mean, come on, the moment the dude leaves the house, I so would've gone down there. But then again, who knows how intimidated they all were.. And even if she believed him about their daughter running away when she was 18, he started abusing the daughter at age 11, when they were all still living together. But the psychologist is right, we should study his brain before he meets his end and I would challenge the "doctors and scientists" to instead of spending time and money to research identifying each and every DSM syndrome but instead to focus on finding that thing specifically answers why a man would molest a child in his family or social circle. OMG I'm in Europe and i've been following this case all day as its been breaking. I feel like crying just writing this. These poor kids have never seen daylight, the oldest two Kerstin and Stefan have never been able to stand at their full height because the rooms are so small. According to the police, many of whom have been openly crying, the littlest one Felix (5) was really happy and excited about his first ever trip in a car when they liberated him. If it wasn't for their brave mother Elisabeth putting a secret note in Kerstin's clothes when she was taken to the hospital they could all still be underground right now. I don't believe in God or hell but I wish there was a hell where Josef would burn for all eternity!

It will take a long time for all the details of this case to be revealed, and all we are making our judgements on is a short newspaper article. How a man can abuse his own daughter and grandchildren in such horrible circumstances is beyond belief. They will all be so damaged. However, I agree that it is strange that the mother did not suspect something over all those years. How could he have gone about what he did for so long without causing some suspicion? I guess it will all come out in the courts eventually. Until then, it is all speculation.
