The international press is abuzz about an Austrian woman (named Elisabeth F. by authorities) who was imprisoned AND raped by HER OWN FATHER (called Josef F.).
This went on for 24 years!!!!!
Wait. It gets more disturbing.
According to reports, the woman gave birth to seven children by her father.
Three of the children, now aged 5, 18 and 19, lived in the dungeon with Elisabeth and had never seen the light of day until the eldest was recently taken to the hospital because of a severe illness.
Police said Josef, an electrical engineering technician by training, had told investigators how to enter the basement dungeon through a small hidden door, operated by a secret code which only he had known.

According to Elisabeth, Josef had lured her into the basement of the block where the family lived in Amstetten, Austria, on August 24th, 1984, and allegedly drugged and handcuffed her before locking her up in the dungeon. A police spokesman said she was "psychologically extremely disturbed", but her version of events was "completely believable".
Elisabeth's disappearance in 1984 was treated as a teenage runaway case.
Elisabeth's mother, Rosemarie, who lived in the family home with her father, supposedly did not know their daughter was being held captive in the home dungeon and sustaining the alleged abuse.

i am from austria and i can definitely not understand that people draw parallels to anything that happend in the 2nd world war, just because this happens in Austria. People here are of course deeply shocked. The whole town of Amstetten (where it happend) is in a terrible shock. The people who knew the family have been crying, coz they feel guilty, that they didnt realize. People shouldnt point the finger at Austria and blame this on a country. These were the horrible deeds of one single deeply disturbed person.

one of the leading police officers investigating is a friend of me and he told me that he was really shocked when he entered the dungeon. its unbelievable that someone could live down there for 24 years. the whole thing is hard to realize for everyone here.

I'm Austrian too, and I have to defend my country. This is an awful sad and disgusting story. But to call us Nazis and and Hitlers and whatever is not correct in so many ways. Sick people are all over the world. What about this American sect, where children were abused by their fathers, had children with their uncles? Or in Great Britan where orphans were abused and murdered over years? Or Marc detroux in Belgium.

I personally do not believe for a moment that the mother of this woman did not know that something was going on in her home. How did they wash their clothing, he had to bring in clothing and food, can anyone say that NOT EVEN ONCE did she not notice him bringing in bags or find receipts in his clothing? Nobody can be that perfect as to NEVER EVEN SLIP UP ONCE. Never heard the flow of water from flushing the toilet or a draining a bathtub? I don't care how "soundproof" this cellar was, you can still hear water flowing through pipes unexplicably. Growing up, we had a very large basement, you can hear things going on under your house. As a nurse, the screams of women giving birth, even with an epidural, are the loudest screams that I have ever heard. Nope, not for a moment do I believe that not one member of their household did not suspect that something odd was going on in that cellar.

Think about what we are talking about here - he drugged his daughter, kept her prisoner for 24 years, repeatedly raped her, and then kept the spawn locked up as well. There are no civilized punishments to truly give this man what he deserves.

i live in an apartment house very similar to theirs. i honestly wouldn't know if someone was being kept in the cellars, especially if the rooms were soundproofed and the walls were meters thick (as they were in this case). in these houses the cellars have separate entrances and there are several flats above them. you wouldn't see someone entering the cellar at all.
could anyone of you guarantee that there isn't someone in the house next to you whom unspeakable things are happening to? i couldn't.
that poor woman and her 3 children would have died and nobody would have known if the father/grandfather would have gotten sick or died. it's scary to think of how many other people could be in the same situation all over the world with noone to help them. these cases show up from time to time.
P.S. babies don't come from the cabbage patch, they have to be assisted through the birthing process, or do you think that she instinctively knew from age 10 on how to cut a cord, care for a newborn, how to handle medical emergencies? *methinks grandma acted as a midwife*

I come from austria and I am so sad, the whole school was in shock yesterday when we heard about it! Here we have no death penalty so he will probably just go to prison and nothing will happen. I saw that on the news yesterday, and I think that's absolutely disturbing and that man should have a very slow, extremely painful death! Poor children and poor woman, how are they gonna move on with their lives now?

I was in tears reading this article. Imagine a 3 year old child, like my daughter, who chases butterflies and frogs in the yard, in the sunshine, trapped in there their whole lives- tragic, heartwrenching, agonizing, unbelieveable, my God, where is God? I hope this demon burns at the stake, branded, stoned, sliced with razor blades, and spends all of eternity in hell.

More PRECISELY: Her scum-dad had told authorities that his daughter was member of a CULT (she was 18 years old in 1984) and that the 3 babies which he said he and his wide "found" in front of their house door were children of his daughter who didn t want to or could not have them living with the CULT (he forced his misused daughter to write corresponding letters which he said lay beside the babies found)
People should read the whole story before psoting.
They were locked in a basement under the garage, which was at the back of the garden. In this household, it seems like he was most definately the man of the house, and so i would assume the wife was very submissive. She probabaly never questioned him when he left the house to go outside. She didn't ask questions.

in 99 % of the WORLD there is NO death penalty! Among them Austria.
Only America still has it (and the HIGHEST crime rate worldwide I guess) and is in line with China, Iran, and such sort of morally less developped countries…
I personally am 100 per cent AGAINST death penalty, but contrary to what "life sentence" means in Europe, it SHOULD mean locked away for GOOD! (in Germany, e.g. almost EVERY murderer gets released after having served two-thirds of his sentence. So we actually do NOT have even "lifetime imprisonment" in most cases, which i think is not okay for crimes like that. It should mean locked away for life! During the past few years, especially in the case of murders where sexual perversion of the criminal has been established by psychiatrists
they are put away in lunatic asylums AFTER having servesd their sentence and are NOT freed after 2/3 has elapsed.
He can get maximum 15 years in jail (and should he "survive" these 15 years most probably preventive detention ("Sicherheitsverwahrung = This is a form of detention intended to protect the general public from dangerous individuals and habitual offenders"
@Anna: No, from what I saw on TV, he ll get maximum 15 years UNLESS the one ill baby that died and that he burnt afterwards would have SURVIVED/LIVED had he sought help, i.e. that they can proof(!) that it was MURDER = "Mord durch Unterlassung")! Then he would get 25 years (which in his case considering his age would be the same as lifetime sentence anyway , I guess.
I personally think they ll send him to an asylum where he can live happily ecer after whereas OTHER poor Austrian retirement pensioners can hardly survice financially on their small pensions…

This is truly the most horrible story I have ever, ever ever read. It is terrible that he will only get 15 years in prison. I know he's old but that's not the point. That poor daughter and all those poor children.
