For a show with so much buzz, practically no one is watching!
Monday night's episode of Gossip Girl scored a 1.9/3 Nielsen rating.
Translation: it sucked ass!
The show finished 5th place in its time slot (a pathetic finish to most industry experts).
What's going on?????

THEY STOPPED POSTING THEIR EPISODES ONLINE DUE TO THE FACT THEY SAID THEY WERE LOSING RATINGS BECAUSE PEOPLE WOULD WATCH THE SHOW ONLINE INSTEAD OF DURING THE TIME SLOT ON TV. NOW PEOPLE ARE JUST PLAIN ANNOYED AND BORED WITH THE FACT THEY TOOK AWAY SOMETHING SO MANY PEOPLE APPRECIATED DUE TO CONFLICTING WORK/SOCIAL LIFE SCHEDULES WITH THE SHOWS TIME SLOT. THAT IS WHY THE RATINGS ARE GOING DOWN THE ………..(flush)

gg isn't being shown on any canadian channels.
the only way you can watch it here is if you get digital cable, or satellite so you can watch it on the cw.
it's REALLLY ANNOYING.

well i live in canada aannnnnnnnnd gossip girl isn't on ctv from where i can can tell and i don' t get CW sooooooo i kinda makes it's hard to watch.
GG is low in ratings now because of a few reasons:
1. The writers strike, people forgot about it 2. "The Hills" is on around the same time, and even though it is an unscripted scripted show girls would rather watch it 3. It is also up against "Dancing with the Stars" a FAMILY FRIENDLY show. I would NEVER allow a child to watch GG. 4. So COMPLETELY unrealistic, damn the friggin OC was more believable….even THE HILLS is more believable.
perez… you know better. The show is an internet phenomenon… it's viewers are watching mainly web-based episodes. That was the whole draw in the first place.
I can't find a Canadian station that plays it ( the channel CTV used to play it as well as streaming it online, which it also no longer does.) So they have pretty much ignored any Canadian fan base as well as people who don't have access to cable.
It's because it's only showing on Monday nights, where as before the strike it was on more thanjust mondays!
They changed the damn time and channels so many times no one knows when it's on!
Probably because it is never on at the same time or on the same day (at least not here in Southern Ontario) so how are people supposed to know when it's on? I love the show, but never seem to catch it!
It needs to have a more consistent airing time and day!

Somthing needs to be done…. I LOVE LOVE this show! First of all it needs to move back to Wednsday nights at 9. Second we need more Chase Crawford scenes!!! More Blair and Serena and less of fugly Vanesssa and Jenny.. Its sooo obvious that Serena hooked up with Georgina, even tho her liitle bro is the biggest mo.. I hope Chuck is gay, I mean that bright red trench says it all..
it's obvious, if you look at the itunes chart last weeks show is number 2, and before the writers strike it was the number one watched show on yahoo videos. The problem is that it is more popular online then on tv, which is why producers decided to eliminate online streaming for the remaining five episodes this season.
I hope they don't drop it, it's one of my favorite shows
um, i think that they were off for so long that people just forgot about it and since like everytime anyone changes a show to another day people just dont follow it so they should do the whole "HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER" and put B Spears on it maybe they'll get more viewers =]
CTV in canada hasnt put it back on air yet instead dancing with the stars is all over its time slots.
so i have to wait til sundays to watch it on the eastern feed from the US!!

because the target demographic watches the show online. the premise of the show revolves around the online world.
well,im from suriname and they show gossip girl here,that's crazy right!!but i think it's the storylines,they are too much the oc,you know what i mean,but i still like it.it's great michelle is appearing.but in order to get better ratings they have to come up with NEW story's or else gossip girl is FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!by it's second season

the episode was on CW and not many people have that! I have to wait for it to come on CTV in Canada, and there is still no news when its coming back to us! But when it does, i know the ratings will boost!

Did anyone besides you EVER watch it? What is it, some lame FOX or WB (or whatever it's called now) show? Never even heard of it except for seeing mentions on this web site.
One Word: FINALS!!! (Well, thats why I had to Tivo it instead of watching it when it came on)
Do your research. It's not about the ratings as it's on CW. It's about who is watching it. The show scores big with younger viewers, which is very appetizing for advertisers. Also, more younger viewers are watching it through other sources besides TV.
because they mOVED IT FROM WEDNESDAY TO MONDAY. and everyone watched GREEK on monday at 8 so gg takes the backseat!!!!
As someone who works in the ad industry, it seems that GG is definitely one of those shows that does best with online streaming - its a fave among teens to women way past high school. Most of the younger generation is a technologically saavy group and not too mention, too busy to catch a show on a Monday night. I say bring GG back online! Also, it's competing with another great teen show, Greek, which embraces online streaming to the max.
I always watched it on cwtv.com , and now they're not showing online anymore b/c they thought it would up their tv ratings! OBVIOUSLY NOT!!! People like me who were watching it online were doing it for a reason… but now I won't be watching at all!!

They need to change it back to Wed nights, Monday nights has too much competition , and its on too early, plus I think that taking it of f the net was a HUGE mistake…I love GOssip Girl though, hope its around for a while
a. because so many other shows are on at the same time.
b. because its not the best day for tv, its called monday meetings for sororities.
c. they won't let you watch it online..that is hurting them really bad.
Many download the episodes. It's sooo not dead considering that it's all what teens are talking about where I'm from, to think I'm from Asia.

i dont think they are good actors adn its the same situation each week we get it rich kids really do have hearts!
it hasn't picked up steam because The OC has been there, done that. There's already been a PHENOMENAL show with the same layout and same idea… rich kids with seemingly perfect lives that are, in reality, fucked up and filled with conflict…proving that money doesn't buy friends or happiness. The O.C. nailed it and kicked ass for quite a while until Josh Schwartz left the writing up to the 40 somethings on his staff….but I digress. And I know that Josh is involved in this show too…..but it's not the same and it's just not as good.
Because it's trying to be the hills and its not!! It pales in comparison.

The thing is that it has to go up against popular shows on monday night, like dancing with the stars, big bang theory, bones and deal or no deal, which may have the same audience like gossip girl, they gotta move it to a different time slot.

it's not getting enough press letting people know when it's actually on. Had I not DVR'd it, I would have forgotten that it was on. It was gone for so long and then it came back without enough notice. They need to strategically place ads on the internet, in print, and elsewhere. It's a good show. Also, it's goes up against quite a few shows on Mondays; especially shows that compete for the same demographics.
too much advertising is ruining its guilty pleasure appeal…….I have to say I don't watch this shiz, didn't even know it was moved….hell since the stick I've found other stuff to do besides TV….dont' want much at all anymore..

It would do better if they had Blair and Chuck back together and NO SERENA CENTERED EPISODES. Blake Lively is a terrible actress and her character pales in comparison to Leighton's. Also, Michelle Trachtenberg has an annoying voice and she doesn't fit in well with the core cast. Oh and they need to kill off Jenny because she would never have dethroned Blair that's just ridiculous especially if this was based off the books.

and in my family, that show overrules GG
DWTS is an really big viewer sucker and so i feel that if GG writers want it to stay on the air (as well as the viewers- like me!) they need to move it back to wednesday, where it was perfect!
well i friggin Love the show and watch every eposide…so i have no clue why, but people are MISSING OUT…its got a HOT & Talented cast, its full of Drama…its wonderful.

I LOVE GG, but i never know when a new episode is on, it's so hard to follow! And monday night just isn't a good night to be on.
They need something catchy to get everyone hooked again!
1.Over-exposure.
2.Wooden acting from unlikable actors.
3.The books are 1000000 times better.They're funny and witty and smart and dirty. The show is utter crap next to them. The only thing the show took from the books is character names.
4.It's been done.
5.Nothing interesting ever happens.
They're high school kids….spare me the fricking drama already…..hanging out in bars drinking martini's……LAME, that's when I lost interest!

Well, I love the show. IT's on a shitty station and no one knows what channel it's on. I had to scour my tv to find CW, why can't they put it on a good station with real shows? It's so much better than Grays anatomey and desperate house bitches!!
They didn't pick up fast enough after the writer's strike…Most of the characters - ie Serena, Dan, look like 30 year olds and act like it too, storylines are boring and predictable as are the characters…. Still enjoy it though
I think the reason why they are not getting enough people watching is because first of all they moved it to a new day, some people didn't know that! Second, i know for me, sometimes I'm not able to watch the show because my roommate is watching something else or i have tons of school work to do. The last thing i want to say is i think they should just put it back online….i loved being able to know that if i miss the show I'm able to watch it later on MY own time! I love this show and i would really be sad if they canceled it because it wasn't doing as good as it used to do, they just have to let the fans get adjusted to the new schedule and see how it turns out, they have only aired 2 new eppies this season, give it sometime!!!!
No one knows when its on … i used to watch it on CTV *its a candian channel* but nothing has been said about it being aired anytime soon…

there's a possibility that people are watching other things like Greek or the sitcoms because everything is on mondays now!! if they didnt have a bunch of shows on the same night there would be a problem.

Dude. The CW probably has the worst team when it comes to building a line up of shows. They put all of their good shows at terrible times when the target audiences are not tuning in to view them. It's like they literally WANT all of their shows to get canceled. Gossip Girl is on at the same time as about 10 other shows that people want to watch too. Taking the show off of their website to view was also a big mistake. The show has got to be moved back to Wednesdays with a better time to tune in. I HATE the CW. They ruin everything. And Greek is on at the same time. Dude. Kill the CW. They need to hire completely different people to run their network. They piss me off. They're ruining Smallville and Supernatural. Supernatural. Have you SEEN Supernatural!? Do you know how sexy Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are?

The show has poor ratings because of the writer's strike! Some friends of mine are no longer watching the show because they were not airing anymore and they were sick of it. The industry let it go that far, they couldn't just fork over the money the writers wanted! They deserve it!!

It teases with the offer of an insight into this unthinkably privileged, glamourous, elite and cutthroat world, but honestly my (albeit private) school was SO much bitchier and by comparison the conflicts and dramas just seem lame. The characters aren't endearing. Their relationships feel phony. It's just not very good.
And the girls are kinda.. slutty? Maybe it's a cultural thing, but with that much power, I wouldn't feel the need to behave like that. With *this* much power, I don't

I think it's for a few reasons:
-Nobody knows when it's on…and the station it's on is some random station nobody ever watches
-I think the writers really failed at making the characters relatable to viewers. I'm a 21 year old college girl, I'm not ugly and i'm not poor and I STILL feel shitty about myself when I watch this show!
-The storyline is pretty boring so far. If put as much effort into writing the scripts as they do advertising I think they could really get something going.
-But again, I have to stress that the show is not relatable. It doesn't look like real life - nobody ever goes to the gym or wears PJs or sweatpants or does anything normal. In real life, no matter how loaded you are - you STILL dress down and wear normal people clothes once in a while! Even Paris Hilton!

i absolutely love gosisp girl. my friends at school and i are upsessed. although, i think it lost a lot of veiwers when it changed to mondays. it was alot more convenient on wednesdays.

i think it's because first of all the CW is not available to everyone, no one knows when it's on, why watch it on tv when you can download it for free on itunes (they should be charging for that), and not heavily advertised.
*if they want more people to tune in and watch they should turn it over to MTV instead of the CW. (NO ONE watches the CW)
