Monday night's episode of Gossip Girl scored a 1.9/3 Nielsen rating.
Translation: it sucked ass!
The show finished 5th place in its time slot (a pathetic finish to most industry experts).
What's going on?????

DUH! Because Gossip Girl is dumb.
All the networks have moved all the great shows to Monday night! My DVR is completely full on Mondays - I have to record Greek a week late (they play last week's episodes 7 pm EST before the new episode) because I have no room. I'm sure this has something to do with it.
I LOVE this show and would be crushed to see it canceled. Especially from a network with tired shows like AMNTM and Beauty and the Geek - they'd be dumb to cancel it!
Oversaturation of how great and beautiful tt's stars are….and a 'done before' plot line. Who cares about a bunch of rich, pretty teenagers 'going through stuff'. We already have the Hills and that's awful enough. Give us more intelligent shows and we'll watch them. Hello- Heroes, Firefly, Lost, Dark Angel, Grey's, Battlestar Galactica, etc…
How is it possible to relate to high school kids drinking martini's in bars and having there own lofts in NYC. The show is stupid.

yh in the uk it's not doing that well either. but i think it is because it is on a shit time on a shit channel that no one watches! i only get to watch the repeat coz it's on too late!

the reason why ratings are low is because it is on at a shitty time (especially for central time zone people) on a night which has high competition from other network shows which have always had high ratings (ex: dancing with the stars). if they would push it back to a later time slot on a different day their ratings would go back up.
It has a lot of buzz….but the show completely sucks.

I think its because of the strike the tv programing is out of wack. Some people don't know when it's on or student's are studying for finals they might also be recording it to watch it later. I know I record it cause I have classes at 7pm so I don't make it home on it for GG. Maybe they should change the time slot to a different time. I think they should have kept it on Wed at 9pm
First of all, I don't have the network they play it so it's very frustrating because I have to watch it on my laptop and second of all, theres been such a long hiatus of it that maybe everyone got used to not having it on tv and its possible that it wasnt publicized enough for coming back on air
I suppose if I was a braindead slut with no values, then I guess I would watch this shitty ass crap they call a tv show. It's pure mind numbing shit. And I'm assuming it only appeals to slutty party girls with few braincells. But the catch there is, that most slutty braindead girls are out getting std's and are too busy to watch. C'est la vie….
Its boring! All of these NEW shows are pretty much the same… blah blah, drama, u have a bad guy, a good guy, u have a slut, a good girl, etc. We want something different, something fresh. Funny… and creative. Sex, cheating, drama, gossip - u have enough of that in real life.
It's because it's on at a shitastic time! There are so many shows on Monday night, and there is NOTHING on Wednesday any more. They hardly showed ads that said it was moving to Monday too, I thought it was still on Wednesdays until I looked it up myself. What the hell CW?
well i have school at night and i havent been able to watch the show but im hearing its freaking goo and i cant watch it onilne bc its not on and i dont have the box to freaking record it dam it world.

i'm from italy, so obviously i can't watch the show on american tv… i got the first series on line and i loved it! so i happened to be in chicago and started buying the books too. but, unlike most of the people commenting here, i prefer the tv show.
i'd watch it if it was somewhere to be seen on line!

It's because they changed it to a new night!!! And a lot of people were used to catching the show ONLINE, like me.
i would suggest CW repost the show online. just when their marketing hit - they took it off the CW site. not a very logical or virally minded idea!
Because they moved it to Monday night. Whenever you move the night of a show you're going to lose viewers.
there are better shows on in that time slot and GG never seems to change, its the same crap ever episode!

The Nielsen ratings are useless. Gossip Girl has a young audience who doesn't watch traditional TV anymore. They watch episodes via the internet or PVR them and watch it later…
there are a few reasons
1. it was on Wednesday and then they changed it.
2. the strike happened.
3. after the strike they decided to replay all the episode which was like 8, so thats 8 weeks of people not wanting to watch reruns. so when it finally came back no one really noticed it was back.
and then they changed the day and time and everyone hates when
TV networks do that.
and also the network its on, no one really watches the CW anymore, only for Americas next top model, and maybe beauty and the geek, but thats it.
and not to mention every one has TiVo and just fast forwards through commercials so they dont see that its on on a new day and that there new episode
i stopped watching because it doesnt follow the bombass books and its ridiculous. i missed 2 or 3 episodes last season and donno what's goin on
I LOVE gossip girl and so does everyone I know! Nielson ratings don't account for everyone watching it…the show is AMAZING! Everyone I know is watching!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE GG…but the switch from Wednesdays to Mondays killed it for me. I have to work on Monday nights and you can't watch online anymore…what other option do I have? They should have never moved it to Monday night.
i think because it's coming on at 8, and it's spring. people are playing sports and working.
personally i think it should come on later. and maybe even not on mondays, no one watches tv on monday. your too pooped from the first day of the week.
i thought last nights show was CRAZY! i loved it, and i love gossip girl, and if it ever got canceled i would be sooooo sad! but next monday the "gay bomb" is dropping and i'm so excited!

Nobody watches tv on mondays…change the date, and i would def watch…it's so hard to catch a monday show, everyone is so busy
Gossip Girl is dead because it should'nt even be called gossip girl. Yes, it is very attention grabbing, but it is not Gossip Girl. It is absolutly nothing like the books. It is an insult to Cecily Von Ziegesar, and everybody who loved the books. Istead of watching the the show that they twisted to make more beautiful for today's youth, go pick up one of the books, and put your time to good use. Maybe you'll find out that Nate is actually a pothead, that Vanessa is whiter than white and bald, that Dan does nothing but write poetry, drink coffee, and smoke, that Jenny has gigantic boobs, and that they are all not over-dramatic attention wanting queens. Except for Blair, of course.
Everyone watches online! Its sad, but all the tweens through twenty somethings that watch the show catch most of the episodes on youtube the next day.
Because the tech savy fans watch it on tivo/dvr, itunes, online. Who watched shows live anymore? Neilsen rating are totally outdated.
The premise is ridiculous and the show is overly dramatic. Who can sympathize with any of the characters?

i watch it on sunday's because bones and how i met your mother conflict with it… same thing with greek. i just wait for the re-showing.

You can download basically anything these days.
Plus, the plot is lacking excitement. It is getting boring.

Because on Monday's between 8 and 9 you got How I met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Deal or No Deal, Dancing With the Stars, Little People Big World, Intervention, The Real World Hollywood, Dirty Jobs.
All better than gossip girl! I'll stick to degrassi for my catty teen drama, thank you.
Maybe because it isn't available here (in Canada) for another couple weeks. Only people who get CW can watch it. People who rely on CTV in Canada can't see it until American Idol is over.
Time slot, no one knows what time and when it is on. It was better when it was on Wed. I forget to watch on Monday.
I also think that Gossip Girl fans are a bit confused from show going off air and then changing time slots. GG used to air on Wed, right? So, I have been a bit confused too. AND last night I programmed my TiVo to record GG and the damn thing didn't do it! I am not sure why, but I am very mad! grrr. But I will try to catch a rerun or download it online. The show just needs to be PROMOTED more/better so that people are aware of the new time slot. I think a lot of girls watch it because of the fashion as well. Maybe DWTS, Samantha Who? and The Bachelor are getting a bit more promotion.

Love this show, but I don't ever know when it's on…It's not on Wednesdays anymore which I was soooo excited to watch last wednesday, then I realized I missed it! I'm bummed..and Monday nights are hard! I was tired from the long day and totally forgot. Wednesday was a much better day!
I think it all started with the writer's strike. Not everyone's gotten back into the groove of watching their favorite shows. I didn't even know Gossip Girl had new episodes.

first it's nothing like the books
second, there's only so much you can do with a teen show like that… and it's already been done with the OC and OTH and every other show out there
third, it moved to monday night and with the whole writers strike there was a long time period where people just forgot about it and now it's not as big of a deal

i watched BUT the writers strike was so long weve gotten used to not watching these shows / not caring about them ….
not watching because the weather is getting nicer here in buffalo and because we have so little sun here through the year i could care less about when gossip girl is on or who got kicked off of american idol …but thats just me

I don't get it!!!! Everyone I know watches this show, all of my twentysomething friends, my 19 year old sister, and my 35 year old coworker! If they cancel it we'll all be devistated!
I always would watch online, and it seems like 8pm is such an early time slot for a program who has viewers of the late teens early twenties mostly… I think that if it were on at 9 or 10 it would be better, although then it would be competing with The Hills on MTV at 10… Idk, monday just isnt a good day.
They need to change in back to Wednesday night - there is too much competition on Monday night! It's a great show! I would be sad to see it go!
It's still good but when they change nights it always gets a little screwy.
They need to put the shows back online so people can update themselves and then get back into it. not everybody has time monday night if they don't know whats going on!
they stopped putting episodes online without any warning, so those of us who missed last week have no chance of catching up. so, why bother trying?

They shouldn't have moved the time slot to 7 pm central on Mondays. Greek is on at the same time and everyone I know would prefer to watch that over Gossip Girl. Besides 7 pm is soooo early.
It's the same thing as The O.C. except in NY City. I used to watch The O.C and I can predict everything that's gonna happen in Gossip Girl, pregnancy scare, people getting beat up, cheating boyfriends, crappy drama…

Gossip Girl is the best show on TV! I am 29 years old, and hooked worse than my 90210 days. I think Monday sucks for them, and they need to be back on after Top Model. We can't let such hot guys become unemployed.. Look what happened to Joshua Jackson!
I think because it moved time frames and since nothing has been on the past couple weeks people have not been watching much tv. Because of this they don't know that the show moved nights. I know I almost forgot till I was flipping through channels, and saw a preview and it said tonight. I love Gossip Girl. I never read the books so I can't say anything that it is different because I wouldn't know. Its the time slot and give it a week or so and it will get better ratings. It won't get cancelled it is already picked up for next year.

I think it probably is because the show comes on too early and also its not on a network i normally watch. Plus I usually don't watch too much tv on monday cuz i'm still getting into the swing of things after the weekend

It's probably because everyone is so upset that they can't watch episodes online- why bother keeping up with this series when every other popular series you can make-up the shows that you miss!!!

the acting sux. Blake Lively has the same expression on her face in every single situation/episode. The drama is predictable. everyone sleeps with everyone. they're just good looking teens that cant act for shit.
I am a pretty mainstream person….but I could give a crap about a bunch of white kids in New York doing drugs and having sex, being cynical and pseudo-clever. That was college for me.
I feel the same way about the indie music scene.
I's rather spend my time and money on things that involve a bit more diversity.

Nobody is watching it because it is in the same time slot as ABC Family's Greek, CBS - Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. There are too many good shows on tv on Monday nights especiallisy from 8-9. I would watch it if it came on a different night.
gossip girl is always at the top of the itunes tv download charts, and before cw took it off its website, tons of people watched it online. the show represents the change in tv: a show with an audience consisting almost completely of teens, watched through the internet, teens' new arena. it is no surprise that the "traditional" medium of the television is failing for a teen-oriented show.
1) alot of people have seen those new ads for the show and think that they are way too slutty looking for a show aimed at teens. 2) it may sound silly but I think the lasting effects of the writers strike really effected it. Remember its in its first season and when a show is in its first season you need all the shows you can get. 3) they are frigin everywhere and people are just sick of them
the new monday time slot is killing the show. on monday night alone, GG is competing with four really high rated shows. although if you think about there is really no other time to air it other than thursday night because competing with american idols ratings is suicide.
Well.. i never know when it is on.. and now i dont get cw so0 i watch it when its on my regular channels.. (canadian cable) …..and thats whennnnnn i know its on.. i love the show..
