Monday night's episode of Gossip Girl scored a 1.9/3 Nielsen rating.
Translation: it sucked ass!
The show finished 5th place in its time slot (a pathetic finish to most industry experts).
What's going on?????

i freakin love Gossip girl!!!!! i recorded it. and watched it this morning before work.. it probably didnt get a lot of views cuz other shows are freaking on monday!!!! they shouldnt have changed the days. and for ppl who dunno when its on its on MONDAYS 8PM ON THE CW. WATCH IT!!!
The actors are all gorgeous, the wardrobe is exquisite and the acting is decent, BUT YOU CAN'T OVERCOME THE BAD WRITING! Even with all the fun sexy scenes, the dialogue sucks. And viewers the ages of the characters (14-17) are probably not allowed to watch it because the content is too adult for the age group. 14-17 year olds should not be depicted drinking martinis and getting into clubs and bars like Butter - it's not realistic. At the same time, fewer adults who would enjoy that kind of story line care about watching high schoolers. The actions don't match the age group.

I'm tired of all these shows about high school drama. Life is short- just try to be happy! This show is a completely unrealistic depiction of the lives of most high schoolers, and the recent ads were ridiculous. We wonder why teen pregnancy rates are on the rise; why does everything have to be about sex?
its beacuse they moved it to mondays. thats like the worst day for it, eveyones weeks are just sarting up, can thats when most people are watching the comedy shows…they whould have kept it on wed.
STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PRETTY BOYS ON THE SHOW!!! That's like the main selling point of the show. What do you want them to look like beasts?

i believe the transition of the shows day and time have had a big impact on it's rating- i still LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the show and will continue to watch
I wathed ONE episode of Gossip Girl (the pilot) and I was so overwhelmed with all the drama they brought in.. I could handle it!!! Its like they are trying to hard, and didnt ease into the drama stories… Im a huge teen drama fan, I love One Tree Hill, OC, Laguna Beach, The Hills… that kinda stuff.. but this show, to me, anyways.. real STUNK!
maybe because it's UNREALISTIC and young high school kids aspire to be like them and their parents don't want them to watch. i know LAME for me to say. but maybe true? i love the show.
Wow! I'm not sure why. I like the show.
Not enough people get the CW and CTV has taken it off, so most of canada has to go and illegally download it now, if they put it on another station most of canada gets, they'd have billions of viewers.
The show also has more of an online following, if they kept putting it online, and sold shit loads of advertising they'd be rolling in it.
There was a really great article about the show in New York Magazine last week - you can read it online nymag.com. The article explained that unlike most shows, the majority of Gossip Girl's viewers watch online or download it from iTunes. So the Nielson ratings are not an accurate way of determining how many people are watching the show.

i'd LOVE to be watching it, but it no longer plays on the canadian channel that it was on last year
because you need to watch every episode to follow what's going on - they took the shows off the website so you can't watch them until you tune in on Mondays! so stupid.
Because of the time slot it is in…i liked it so much better on wednesdays!
considering it wasn't on any of the regluar channels i get….. or else i would have been watching it. in order for me to watch it on tv, i had to order a new channel package with those channels in it. its ridiculous.

Why? Because it's typical CW shit! Who the fuck cares about stupid teenagers anymore? Been there, done that. Give me something new, something refreshing. CW needs to drop this image of trying to uphold it's teeny-bopper image. If that's the case, I'll let the network fail and stick to NBC and watch my fave new shows Chuck and Pushing Daisies.
I love Gossip Girl. I think its the time slot. It needs to be on at like 9pm on a tuesday or wednesday. i record it and watch it later. i used to just watch it online.

Because not everyone gets the channel that it is on(the cw i think), before here in Canada it was also on ctv but now it's not any more so people are forced to watch it on-line which is a hassle!

Honestly, I think it was because of the writers strike. Im not saying anything bad about the strike, dont get me wrong. I was completly STUCK on the show as each episode was a new one. Then when it started up again, there wasnt even any good advertisment of what the next episode was going to be like. I mean, I had nothing to look forward to. Thats why i completly FORGOT they were airing "new" shows on mondays. which is another thing, they change the date and time too much. keep it on that date, advertise the show to the fullest and youll get good ratings.
Add some drama to the show. get someone pregnant. Cat fight (physical) something that kids today can relate to..

Well, the show is presented on the CW channel and ,in Canada, we don't have it! The only channel who presented the show was CTV and they doesn't present it anymore. So the only way I can watch the show, is on the internet. Sad…
because in true t.v. fashion all the networks pick one night out of the week to put all their good shows on!! There are 3 other weeknights with barely anything on and everything that is worth watching is on Monday night!! It's impossible to see everything, even if you have tivo!!!!
it's up againist Greek on ABC Family - same demo and that is the top rated show on that network. Greek is halfway through its season and GG dropped away halfway through theirs. Plus, Greek is better.

It's mostly an audience of teenagers and right now is crunch time for college/high school aged kids for school, sports, etc. and its hard to find time to watch

Maybe bc their pushing the "richie rich" too far. The first season had like "we're rich, and its normal to us" feel to it. But now, its like "we're rich, look at us, be like us,OMG" and this season, has more of the highschool-immature feel.
In Canada, Gossip Girl used to air on one of our major networks, CTV, but for some reason, it doesn't now. So for us in Canadialand we have to search our satellites and digital cable for that one US station airing it.
Last night's episode did kind of suck though. Georgina's a bitch.
well i LOVE this show and i've missed it the last two weeks because i forgot about it's new day AND time. it used to be wednesdays at 9 now it's mondays at 8. people probably just dont know that.
the story line is getting a bit ridiculous for high school juniors. Also, they never give enough information in every show it just seems like you are waiting around for the next episode. plus the characters are becoming more and more surface and the plot lines more ridiculous and stupid. when they start acting like normal people it will be better. i know the point is that they are high class heirs and heiresses but there needs to be some human emotion to keep it going.

A well thought out and paid for media blitz doesn't mean the show is any good and isn't cast with a bunch of no talents. Inever thought Chace was even cute..the other guy w/ the dark hair that dates Blake Lively is much better looking.

I used to watch Gossip Girl all the time, but when it came back on after the writer's strike it wasn't on it's usual channel (in Canada), so now I don't get it.
A hard to navigate website where you can't view the online episodes. IF you're trying to jump in mid-season you have NO IDEA what's going on… it's so stupid and annoying.

The concept isn't really new…there's nothing exciting about it. It's almost as if the creators took a bunch of shows and combined them thinking that people would love it. Gilmore Girls did the whole high society thing and Sex and the City did the whole sex thing. This show has nothing new to offer viewers, there's no twist, no extremly exciting plot.
Idk, but I tried to watch it after hearing soooo much news about it and couldn't stay interested for 5 minutes. I guess it's a show for tweens or something right? Who really cares anyway?? Anybody??

BRING BACK FULL EPISODES ONLINE!!!! i'm 30 and LOOOOOVE the show, but now that it's only available to view on the telly, i can't watch.
Honestly I feel there is just an overload of wealthy, Caucasian, physically attractive socialites/figures in the media right now. And as we all know, anything that has a major boom or uprising, must also come down; we saw it with the Supermodel moment in the Eighties and Nineties with the "Supers," and I feel what we are going through now is really just a recreation of that moment only in a different time period. People get tired of the same people, with the same story lines of cheating, backstabbing, drug use and all around debauchery. Yeah it's fun for a moment but it becomes tired and dated. Notice how Lindsay, Nicole, Paris, and Mischa had their moment–not so much now. There aren't but so many tales of someone overdosing, sleeping with other beautiful people, and sex to discuss. MTV's "The Hills" remains on TV because many people who began watching Laguna Beach when they were in high school, can still relate to the "friendship disputes" between Lauren, Heidi, et. al. "Gossip Girl" is really on another level, high above middle America who is their audience. It's honestly just a season for "Change."
I don't know, but I watched it live (for the first time in a long time) and it's great! I am absolutely addicted! Maybe it was Michelle Trachtenburg- who cares that she was on it anyway!

that's because the 1.9 is a household rating…when the nielson book comes out, it will be the top-rated show in young women demos! it usually is..the number is deceiving because it doesn't break out the total number of viewers accurately
It's too much hype and although most teen dramas are unrealistic, this one is just beyond any type of reality. I love this show but there's also no diversity..But that's another store. I have a feeling this show might get cancelled.
I love the show…However, I TiVo EVERYTHING and watch it later, they need to find a way to include TiVo ratings b/c that's what busy people do now a days…duh! =)
the rating suck because you can only watch it in the US, we can't watch it on any Canadian channels

reason #1: they switched time slots! they had the PERFECT time slot when ANTM was on before them. now they are paired with one tree hill, which is a dying show.
reason #2: MOST people are watching gossip girl online now - but execs decided they would not put the final episodes of the season on the CW website…in hopes of boosting the ratings (obviously that didn't work!)
I love the show, but just cant watch it on that night which makes it so i have to either watch the re-run of it later in the week or not watch it at all. It sucks cause they don't show it online anymore.

Serena's boyfriend, Dan, is ultra annoying and a boy scout. It doesn't make any sense she dates that boring dude. If Serena, who is used to luxury and doesn't know anything about budget and saving money, is going to date a poor guy, the guy must be really good looking or have really great personality or really talented. Dan is non of the above. So the story doesn't make any sense.

The guest star, who plays the girl trying to bring down Serena, is damn ugly and old. Whatever her name is, I don't care. She is so old, she doesn't look like she is around Serena's age. Why is she even in it? Let me guess! Her powerful agent hooked her up to save her career?

i think the change of time slot has had a lot to do with ratings/viewing. i am 23 and i am proud to say i freaking love this show. every time i watch it, i sit here wondering how it could possibly get any better. LOVE IT.
well, the reason my friends and i don't watch it is because we usually party on monday nights,. also, what with them changing the time slot and putting the show on hiatus for weeks at times i forget that it's on. plus it's just not as good as the books.
it's doing so poorly because of the ads they featured with the make out scenes that also said omfg. I know that many parents aren't letting their teens watch it which decreases a large part of their audience.

I'm in my late 20's and I absolutely luv the show! I myself record it on my DVR and maybe others do that now as well so it's not showing up on the ratings? I simply HATE commericals so thats why I record all my shows. Plz don't take this show away! I have to get my spoiled rich kids fix after they cancelled The OC!

I think it all boils down to casting. The TM of this show was reliant on those who read the GG books and with like 10 or so books in the series, we got very clear ideas who these characters were. I think the only person on the cast that fits that image that the books created was Chuck. Chace is attractive, like Nate, but not nearly as athletic as Nate was made out to be. Blaire has short hair and even though she was mean, we loved her, that character has not been develeoped on the show. The girl who plays Serena is beautiful, but somehow she doesn't capture the essence of Serena. And Dan Humphrey is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too cute to be beleiveable. And no Vanessa? Lame! I was very excited for this series, but as a book reader, I felt they took too many liberties away from the storyline, you can't create a TV show off of a book and have it be practically NOTHING like the books, it doesn't work that way, it turns people off of it.
I think its because it's on at 8pm on a monday. I'm in college and that time slot is really a bad time. No college student wants to sit around there apartment or dorm at 8pm on a monday night. We are uaulyl doing something then. But now the Hills, which sucks hard core ass, people are watching cuz it's on later, at least they are watching it at my school. We have to remember when GG is on–it kept switching days and times. WTF? And that ridiculous hiatus cuz of the writers strike totally effed up any momentum of the show. But I still love GG and it better not be f-ing cancelled because I'll have nothing to watch except effing Lauren Conrad….perish the thought.
I think in the 80's/90's, people wanted to watch these soap opera lifestyles of the rich & famous ("90210") because they WANTED it. NOW, with Paris et al being messes, I don't know many who aspire to that lifestyle, especially the one portrayed by these spoiled, brain-dead "teens" on Gossip Girl. That, and Chase is NEVER topless.
