For a show with so much buzz, practically no one is watching!
Monday night's episode of Gossip Girl scored a 1.9/3 Nielsen rating.
Translation: it sucked ass!
The show finished 5th place in its time slot (a pathetic finish to most industry experts).
What's going on?????

i don tthink its dead, its just mondays arent the best days for shows, and none of my friends knew it was on mondays until i told them
because most ppl download it. but it is a fun show to watch to pass the time. its not like it has any real substance.
the reason is b/c they changed the time slot (from Wed. to Mon.) and i dont believe they advertise it enough.
Ok, so first you move my show and then you take my show offline. I am an adult and i work and work out. Who the hell watches TV at 8 o'clock? The CW needs to quit wishing teenagers watched the show and wise up to the fact it's adults, move it to 9 or 10 and make it the new Melrose Place.
bc it's on the same time as greek and how i met your mother, which started airing the continuation of their seasons before GG was relaunched

Why gossip girl hasn't picked up steam? Because its on the CW…. who watches the CW… I don't even know what channel it's on. I've heard its pretty good though……
The problem is that Monday night TV is flooded with tons of hit TV shows. Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, The Hills come are just to name a few. I think they need to move Gossip Girl to another night when programming isn't so cramped with other shows in it's age bracket.
CRAZY! Veronica Mars was the best show ever and CW cancelled it last season! Unbelievible !! And the ratings were a higher than this crapr show G.G.!!
I love gossip girl, and used to have to watch it online because we don't get the CW where I live… and now the CW does not repeat the shows online, which is very very upsetting!!!!! Bring it back CW!!!

Because there are too many shows on Monday nights… Greek is on at the exact same time slot and Greek's story lines have been way better than Gossip Girl lately!
i like gossip girl…but i like Greek too. I record both of them. but wacthc them while they are recording so that my viewing counts for both (make sense) i don't wanteitehr of them to cancel. but it doesn't help that they are on at same times. I think the viewers are split.
It's because they changed the day and no one knows when it's on!

I don't have CW , but I have CTV, and we use to get it on there..and I watched it,but ever since the writers strike I haven't gotten it, how come CW put it on and we don't have it? stupid dancing with the stars was on lol

Me and my friends (all in college) LOVE GG, but they keep changing when it's on. Used to be Wednesday, now it's Monday's; last week it was on at 8 and this week it was on at 7… they need to pick a time slot and stick with it!
*They also need to keep full episodes online in case you miss them because I missed last weeks episode because I was in class and I was disappointed I couldn't watch it

I didn't even know new shows were playing! It wasn't on for so long from the writer's strike that I didn't know when it was coming back on! And for me, I didn't look up online when it was starting again, because I was too busy getting the hollywood downlow from your AWESOME site.
Because it's on the same time as Greek and any girl that watches cheesey shows like Gossip Girl loves greek to.
probably because there are a lot of good shows airing monday nights between 8-9pm that it's hard to pick and choose what show you want to watch. i know i have atleast 3 other shows airing in that time frame that i have to tape two of them and i'm trying to get another vcr to tape the third show so i can watch gossip girl in peace.

its because they show 7 mins of commercial then literally 4 mins of the show so you basically are watching a commercial for an hour!!! i love that show and i am disappointed
i love this show…and last nights episode was good…i hope that it doesnt get canceled…just got into the show two weeks ago…

I think the WB made a huge mistake changing over to the CW. Although it was a smart move to take over UPN, the new formatting appears cheap and cheesy. If Gossip Girl were to be picked up by another station, such as NBC or FOX, it would do much better.

I work monday nights the only way I got to watch the show is on the internet and the cw pulled episodes off there website according the lead writer of the show. He said half of the fanbase is through the. Internet to bad the cw fucked up
Just because the press and you talk about it Doesn't mean it is good. Causation does make Correlation. You saying it is good doesn't make it good. Also why watch Gossip Girl when you can watch real drama. It is the same reason no one watched the OC it sucked….also the only reason you cover it is to get erection over the fact that Chase may be gay not because you actually watch the show…..

I enjoy watching Gossip Girl. Their mistake was to stop streaming it online. Not everyone gets CW in their channel line up, including me. I use time warner, but CW is not included, so there is no watching it on the tv for me!! THEY NEED TO STOP STREAMING IT AGAIN so i can stop trying to piece it together on youtube.. it sucks!!
they pulled the streaming of it in order to boost nielsen ratings. How ignorant. The TV world has just got to come to grips with the fact that streaming TV is where it's at now, and Nielsen ratings just can't cut it anymore. They've got to come up with a new way to measure their ratings to include online viewers. CW pulled the streaming, so now I watch the pirated versions. Commercial free, hey!
they moved time spots which tends to throw people off…. i love the show but with blair and serena being friends the bitchiness is mostly gone.
Everyone has tivo and dvrs. Ratings can't be tracked if people are watching with those.
Anyway, this show is dope as hell! If you are into 'drama' with great delivery and a tight fashion sense, you will enjoy this show.
Because everyone is obsessed with THE HILLS!!! ITS HILLSMANIA!!! Oh yeah and gossip girl sucks it can't hold my attention for more than 5 minutes.

They stopped the new episodes too quickly, and went into repeat mode. You have to establish some sort of consistency and get a viewer base before doing those kinds of things. People forget very quickly…
if it sucked ass it wont be a best selling book series… writers strike just killed it because it changed time. they should have done a marathon on sunday and then premiered the episode on monday night to get viewers back in the loop of what was going on.. this is my favorite show it better not get canceled!!
I think the damn writer's strike kind of fucked it up - along with many other shows. It was confusing to figure out when it was coming back on, what night, what time, etc… When a show does well at the time/spot it opens, the networks should LEAVE IT THERE!
I personally love the show and have it set up on DVR, but would have missed it too if it didn't record automatically.
I know that my roommate and I both love the show (guilty pleasure I guess), but we live in Canada and none of the big networks here are broadcasting it

it changed times. the show just came back. kids are in finals at the moment. usually shows are over by now with season finales and such but with writers strike finales won't be coming til end of may early june. look at american idol they've had very poor ratings as well.

Honestly, I think one mistake was to name it after the books, because a lot of people thought it would be exactly like them, but the show is way different. But that can't be changed.
Also, Gossip Girl tends to fluctuate. Last night's episode was good, some of the pre-strike ones were terrible. And they're getting too confused with the drama, especially the Blair/Jenny fight. I supported Jenny until she became an insufferable bitch, now she's on Blair's level.
Dan and Serena, enough with the whole "she's rich, he's not". I'm getting sick of seeing the ways rich life clashes with poor life. It was fun at first, now it's just OLD.
Blair and Nate. They were hypocrisy hyped up high. So Nate rejected Blair because she cheated on him after they were fighting. Didn't he cheat on her after being with her since kindergarten? Yet Blair's made out to be worse.
I like the Nate and Vanessa storyline though, that no one saw coming.

They used to have full episodes up on CWTV.com so you could catch up if you missed something but they took them down. now im totally lost on what the eff is happening on there! They need to put the free full episodes back on so i can catch up!
only because people are addicted ot reality tv now.. they dont have enough desire to sit and watch a show that needs them to follow a serious, complicated story line
too many upsetting things happened and WAY TOO MUCH GOING ON AT ONCE! the amount of drama that went on in one night of gg should have been spread over about 4 different episodes
Gossip Girl is done, it's horrible for a true actors career. Look at Mischa barton, adam Brody and the others from the OC…What are they doing today? Going to PR events and photo ops. No work. A true actor/actress would never sign up for a wannabe 90210, it's just a matter of series before this, like the OC gets canned.
Not just that, but once girls realize all the guys on the cast are like 5'6" in real life it really hurts ratings. You know what they say small man…small …….
One reason is that with TiVo and DVR services, noone has to watch at the set time slot anymore. Therefore, recoreded shows do not get counted via Nielson. Plus only Nielson households get counted in the first place. I know I am watching. But I don't count.
They need to start posting the episodes online again…for real!
In Canada it only plays on channel 166 and 3hundred and something so those who do not have satelite or a rogers box dont have access to watch the episodes as they premier
it's because it's on monday… lamest night ever to have such a hot show on… better nights for tv ratings/watching like wednesday/thursday have stupid shows like supernatural, smallville, or antm on the cw… seriously those shows get a better night?! cw should never have moved gossipgirl from thursdays…

nobody watches traditional TV, they should have aired the episodes on Youtube. TV is soooooo boring. Trust us, we're 16 from California and we nnnnnever watch TV.
It's fun to watch when you've got nothing else to do, but in the end it's just a cheap copy of the O.C. A lot of the characters are either really annoying or just boring. Everything that happens, all the 'dramatic' events and turns, seem really forced- basically the whole show just lacks credibility. Not to say i don't love it anyways, even if only for the fashion, nate and chuck. haha

If you check out New York Magazine's cover story about GG from last week, you will learn that the majority of Gossip Girl's viewers watch it online. In fact, the network is trying to learn how to deal with it.
WELL NO WONDER NOBODY'S WATCHING. CTV (IN CANADA) PULLED THE PLUG ON IT. GOSSIP GIRL FUCKING PREMIERED IN CANADA, WHY THE FUCK ISNT IT PLAYING HERE?

I don't think it's dead, I have been dying for the show to come back and in the last two episodes it has not disappointed, the show is sooo good and people are totally missing out.

it has such bad rating because its main fan-base is teenagers. My friends and I love watching it because it is based on our NYC private school life and we think it is hilariously exaggerated. However, as the show fails to illustrate, our school gives us way too much homework to be able to dedicate our lives for one hour on a school night to the fictitious lives of Serena, Dan, Nate, Blair and Chuck.

It's obviously because they switched the days.
The writer's strike combined with the fact that they switched from Wednesday to Monday is the reason it's dead. No one I know even knew that it was starting back up again or that it was on Mondays. It's retarded.

I don't know about the states but in canada it is only playing on some random obscure channel, alot of people don't know that or don't have the channel
I can say that when they pulled the plug on allowing online viewers to watch the episode on their website it completely turned me off. They really thought high of their show. I only had time to watch it online a few days after because of a night class on the night it is on.
i tape all my shows and watch them later so i don't have to deal with commercials. Does this not get calculated in the ratings? No one I know watches TV live anymore.. DVR is the best

because this is a show of the future. if you did your homework perez you would see it is one of the most dvr-d shows and one of the most downloaded on itunes. check it.

I watch it everytime it comes on, and I've downloaded one episode from itunes, the show is awesome but it comes on at 8 o clock which is wierd, and it is also on the CW but the show is amazing.

I agree with Kim "too much advertising is ruining its guilty pleasure appeal…". She nailed it! It's not just too much advertising either, it's the way it's advertised. There's something in all of us that wants to like something a little underground that is cool, and something in all of us that is a little put off when we're told everyone loves this show. It seems too trendy.
Its unrealistic to many people. People like to watch shows that they can compare their life to.
Whilst the actors, actresses and characters fit their target audience wonderfully i cannot help feeling the 'Gossip Girl' premise of the show is terribly absent. Even the website made for the show is a let down. The show would be much more appealing to a wider audience as purely a show about over-indulged young adults as the OS once was. The whole Gossip Girl character is extremely unnecessary and displays only the writers' lack of enthusiasm in creating the basic storyline of the show.
