Monday night's episode of Gossip Girl scored a 1.9/3 Nielsen rating.
Translation: it sucked ass!
The show finished 5th place in its time slot (a pathetic finish to most industry experts).
What's going on?????

Greek is on at the same time. I Tivoed Gossip Girl. They need to move it to Wednesday away from greek.

I think it's a bad decision for them not to release the 1st season DVDs before the premiere of the 2nd season. I, and tons of my friends, are waiting for the 1st season to come out on DVDs to begin the 2nd! I'm SO looking forward to it though so I hope they don't cancel the show!
I was so mad on Monday - I turned over to watch GG & my bloody cable was playing up. I had to watch some other crap! Not amused!

I certainly hope it doesn't get canceled… it's the only show I enjoy watching. That and Heroes. it's probably because of the Monday slot. I just TIVO it.
It probably isn't doing well b/c they moved the time slot. I wish I could watch it, but the only 5 shows I watch ALL come on between 8-10pm on Monday nights. It's ridiculous. Gossip Girl should move to another day!

Gossip Girl is dead because its 1/4 as interesting as the oc…so by my calculations it will be over after this season. but if it gets lucky enough to get picked up for another the story line will probably be rehab, break up, fighting, and then someone dies! end of story sorry josh schwartz!

because its nothing like the book!!! the actors portray the characters great but the storyline is nothing like the book

2. alot of their buisness is in canada, and no canadian channels are airing gossip girl anymore.
umm…because it hasn't been on in months so people forget about it… not everyone sees the press or pays attention to it all the time..who knows…. there was too much time inbetween because I thought the show was great on Monday so I hope it doesn't get dropped or something shitty like that because of this
IT DID WORSE LAST WEEK AND ACTUALLY BEAT ITS FOLLOWING SHOW OTH WHICH IS IN ITS 5TH SEASON. also GossipGirl is also picked up for season 2. Do your research man
Waisting over 30 minutes of a show preparing for the SAT's, is not appealing. BORING.
1) It was off for such a long time.
2) The storyline sucks and isn't as juicy.
3) Many of the characters have become unlikable….before even when they used to do bad stuff…you still liked them, now…it's just annoying.
4) They don't do school stuff enough….. even the kids in 90210 and the OC went to class every now and then….and did things other than drink at 18 and up clubs.
two reasons… one, I NEVER KNOW WHAT TIME IT'S ON!!! wtf? It changes all the time, then repeats for weeks, then the writer's strike, and then who even knew it was back on air last night?
the second reason is that the show is totally untrue to the books… kind of sad.
Well, lets see, first off the changed the show to Monday night when it used to be on on Wed, and not only that, but just about EVERYTHING worth watching is all on on the same night…I watched it, don't get me wrong, but there are so many shows worth watching that are now all on at the same damn time…it should have stayed on Wed since there isn't shit on TV on Wed anymore…and Second, like it has already been stated, the show is pretty much nothing like the books…and while the show was off for so damn long cuz of the writers strike, many people turned to the books for their fill of Gossip Girl, and now that the show is back on, the storyline is so far off from the books that is it kinda disapointing.

Because it's ridiculously stupid and boring. I watched 15 minutes of it and had to turn it off. The story line isn't exciting and they're a bunch of losers. Who cares!
love this showw people have their different opinions but i love gossip girl it is the best and most intriguing show on air the drama is fair and not to much and it demonstrates the truggles throughout high school. it is before one tree hill so watch it.

the guys are cool too all of them have different personalities which any kid can relate to

Its that damn Monday 8pm time slot. I love that show and I almost forgot it was on by the time I settle down.
Honestly, I'm in love with this show but end up watching it online somewhere every time because it's on so early. It's on at my house at 6pm, and I have to get home from work and eat, etc. I don't think it's a reflection on the show, I'm still in love with it.

Well first of all I think a big part of it could be that it changed from Wednesday to Monday nights, that confused me, as well as finals week for college kids. I was working on a project for 12 hours straight I didn't have time to watch it even though I love it!! :[

They should not have moved it to Mondays. It's competing with "How I Met Your Mother" and "Greek" on ABC Family. While Greek is probably not a ratings winner, it does attract some of the target audience.
well im assuming that most of the fans were people who read the book && since the show is nothing like the book im sure it lost fans. the character's aren't even the same , jenny is supposed to have brown curly hair and big boobs and shes NOTHING like that on the show. And in the book everyone was supposed to love serena! I also hate how this show makes me hate blair! i loved blair in the book! .. the shows good its just NOTHING like the book.

I beleive that the Writers Guild Strike had alot to do with the show bombing, it seems as if everything was so tangled & the show timings no one really bothers ccause its ridicoulous it changed from wednesday to monday.. pathetic. but i LOVE GOSSIP GIRL and will continue watching!
there are too many reality shows on and people probably don't realize it is back on after the strike!

does canada get included in the rating? because the network that was carrying gossip girl took it out after the writers strike, so a lot of people in canada aren't watching. FUCK YOU CTV!! bring back the CW to canada!!!
gossip girl is beyond annoying. rich people do indeed smile, aren't drama kings and queens and have a life. acting like a snob, conceit, and pretension is only part of it. this show never showed the "other" side of monied teenagers. it stinks.

It's on CW which I don't have with my cable, and global does a horrible job of advertising when the eff Gossip Girl is on. I've resorted to downloading.

It's on too early. By the time I get home from work, make supper, and get a chance to sit down, the show is already over. Bummer cuz I really love it.
I'm from New Jerk City and I hang out with all of those fine citizens depicted on the shoe. I can say this: the story-lines are as real as everything on Jamie Lee Curtis's body.

I would have to agree that the one of the main reasons gossip girls' rating have suffered is due to the fact that this week is finals week for many people. Oh and lets not forget the people that dvr this show, Nielson ratings don't include these fans. But a larger reason why the show is doing so bad is because it's almost exactly like the OC. I mean how many shows can we have with rich girls complaining about their f-ed up families. Or how bout the new ads for Gossip Girl it should be called Guzzler Girl if you catch my drift? Bottom line the show is a bit too racey for even it's younger viewers. OTH does not resort to such graphic detail and seems to be doing well.
Have you been paying any attention to the networks ratings? 1.9/3 is better than half the shows and is on par with staples like One Tree Hill. The average for the VERY funny Everybody Hates Chris and the even funnier Aliens in American averaged somewhere around a .9/2 on Sunday. The WB should have stayed its own network. Felicity, Angel, Buffy brought in many more viewers.

first off its because the "finale" before the strike break didn't leave you with the feeling to watch, the feeling that you needed more.
second… they took it away from canada…. they deserve it
there not playing gossip girl on regular cable in canada where a large amount of there ratings come from so im kind of sick of waiting and forgetting what happened like 6 months ago on the show so i have stopped watching it

I watchit every week, but the reason the ratings are tanking is because the CW (i.e. Dawn Ostroff) has decided that there will be no internet-based viewing for the last few episodes of the season. And that is the where most of the Gossip Girl viewing audience comes from!

Though I do love Gossip Girl (I watch every Monday) they are up against some great shows on CBS some long running shows and they are giving them a run for their money! They should switch it back to WENSDAYS, either way I'll still watch it!

ooh, I just read an article about this. The ratings are poor, but it has someof the highest internet viewings of anything. Its supposed to symbolize its place as a zeitgeist right now. Its not that people aren't watching, it's that they're-appropriately- watching it online!
Nielsen ratings are for old people. They don't include Tivo, they don't include online options, they don't even include iTunes downloads. Obviously, if the Nielsen demographic doesn't align with the show demographic, it's going to get low ratings that don't reflect its actual popularity.

It's nothing like the book series!
It's because of the writers' strike. They just kept replaying old episodes…so many times that people stopped expecting any new content and stopped tuning in!
i loveeeee GG! but first of all there are a lot of problems with the script. the books were sooo juicy and i feel like serena is way toooo "good girl". also NATE was obsessed with freakin serena for most of the series, yet in the show he liked her for basically one episode. that completely ruins the whole blair, nate, serena love triangle. DAN also would never have been so adorable and serena would not be in love with him. i also didnt like the fact rufus and lilly hooked up. i think gossip girl can be fixed and SHOULD NOT be cancelled but i do think a 9pm slot and sticking to the book a little bit more will help a lot.
First of all, these kids are constantly ordering cocktails at big fancy restaurants. They are 16-17…it's too unrealistic. Plus the way they dress is really silly - no 16 year olds dress that way! That's my two cents!
I LOVE GOSSIP GIRL, THE BOYS ARE HOTT AND THE GIRLS ARE GORG SO I WILL WATCH IT UNTILL IT IS CANCELLED…..which will prob be at het end of this season hahahha.

THE SHOW NEEDS TO GET GIRLS WHO LOOK THE PART. AND THE TWO "FRIENDS" THAT BLAIR AND JENNY ARE FIGHTING OVER LOOK LIKE THEY ARE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. AND THE WHOLE PLOT SINCE THE SHOW STARTED UP AGAIN IS WRONG. HOW THE HELL IS A FRESHMAN GOING TO TAKE OVER QUEEN B'S SPOT? I personally love the show. One reason could be that it just started up. People don't always watch the first few episodes of a season. Another reason could be the time slot change. The show used to be on Wednesdays I think. I think the ratings will go up as it goes deeper into the season.
