Barbara Walters tells Oprah Winfrey - in an episode scheduled to air on Tuesday - that she was ho'ing around with a married US Senator for several years in the 70's.

Babs' lover was Senator Edward Brooke, a moderate Republican from Massachusetts who took office in 1967. Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate.

Both Brooke and Walters knew that public knowledge of their affair could have ruined his career as well as hers, Walters says.
Babs said she was 'infatuated' by Brooke: "He was exciting. He was brilliant. It was exciting times in Washington."
Her affair with the senator, which is just now 'going public', had ended before he lost his bid for a third term in 1978.
Brooke did not return calls for comment.
