The chart results were just announced and her Magesty's new album, Hard Candy, has topped the U.K. charts, coming in at #1.
Mim's E=MC2 only managed to get a #3 debut on the British album charts.
Additionally, Madonna's 4 Minutes is #1 for a 3rd week on the U.K. singles chart.
And, Hard Candy is taking the top spot in more than 25 countries as the numbers roll in!!!!

If you look at the BET interview and watch when Madonna is standing next to the hosts I noticed how her body is looking old. Her stance wasn't that of a younger Madonna. Part of the problem is that she is dressing really badly lately but also even when she did that video when she's vacuuming there is something old about her. She reminded me of an old Lucille Ball. Whether you like her or not, Madonna and her team certainly know their stuff! She's been churning out top-selling albums since the 80s and still hasn't lost her touch despite the abundance of ageist comments on this site! Her image has always been controversial, which of course gets her lots of free publicity - like this site. I agree with those who say that Mariah Carey has a better voice and an incredible vocal range, but she doesn't have the wider appeal of Madonna, especially outside of the US. They are both very talented artists, but all the promotion is starting to get a bit tired, but I guess that's the name of the game now if you want to sell your product. Talent alone isn't enough…

I'm from the UK, and Mariah Carey has totally gone out of her way to pimp her new CD, appearing on almost every UK show possible, small and big, to promote E=MC². It got to #3, which is actually not bad for Mariah.
Madonna, on the other hand, has done ZERO promotion in the UK, and the album's #1 and the single's been #1 for 3 weeks, which shows that in the UK and Europe, Madonna is much bigger than Mariah.

Erm, alot of the people on here are sad. Who honestly cares who sells the most, if you don't like it, don't buy it.
All the people moaning about how madonna has not got the best voice, that doesn't matter. It is about what you do with it. Personally, I don't think Mariah has made a classic since Hero and all of them. Madonna's music stand out more, and Hung Up will probably still sound amazing 10 years later.
Either way, I don't think any of the albums are all that this time around. Also, E-MC2 did not sell 400,000 copies in its first week in the UK as someone said, it sold around 30,000. Not alot really, even if it did get to number 3.
And another thing there is a lot of black artists in the UK that are successful, jus you might not have heard of them. Dizzee Rascal, Lemar, Leona, Estelle, Jamelia, The Bloc Party Singer, Wiley. Also, Chris Brown, Kanye, Timbaland, Will I Am, Beyonce all sell well and are liked. To accuse the UK charts of being racist is absurd.
The thing is E=MC2 sounds alot like Emancipation, Hard Candy does not sound like Confessions.
