I cannot even fathom the ignorance of this! I am born and raised, full blooded, Caymanian. Cayman is a Christian island; obviously, homosexuality is not greatly accepted. Don’t get me wrong I have gay friends… All I am saying is that public display of affection on a Christian island, plus ignoring the police when asked to stop, it is just ignorant… Show a little respect for other peoples values; if you’re in a different country at least abide by their laws. You wouldn’t go to India and eat cow would you?
everyone on this website is fucking retarded. i was born in cayman and my dad still lives there… it has nothing to do with cayman being a christian island or not its the fact that it is a TINY island. there are TONS of anti - gay groups in toronto (where I live now) and Perez has never once said "don't go to toronto". just because a couple people protest gays in the SOLE cruise ship port cayman has doesn't mean the entire island doesn't want them there. it is just more noticeable because of the size of the island. my uncle is gay and comes to cayman all the time WITH his boyfriend. y'all are crazy. it is extremely offensive when people who have clearly never been there and know nothing about it are talking as though they know 'caymanians'. don't generalize someone based on their country it's fuckin 2008 i thought that was an evident no already. anyway, fuck you perez and stop directing 13 year old shit talkers to my island's website.
either way, tourists: don't come to cayman. we don't want you there, gay or not gay. you guys are obnoxious.
ALSO the royal palms is a nice place in a high-end area in cayman.
a gay couple wouldn't walk into the Ritz Carlton in toronto and start making out in front of all the old conservative people there or they'd get the same complaints. same shit different place.
To all homosexuals - I am SO SORRY that this happened (and the 'gay cruise' visit denial years ago…not all of us Caymanians and Jamaicans are homophobic beleive me - the majoity of the population is embaressed about this…we are going to start some activism here in Cayman to fight this pathetic homophobic activity.
On behalf of most of the people I know, "sory'
i dont give a shit whats happened there
i love that place to death and will continue to go back
its amazing, the people are soo nice (nicer than most Americans) AND there is like no crime
Ok, I am a queen myself, but come on! If you are outside the U.S. and your are warned about something like this twice and you still do it, you deserve it! Their lucky they didn't get the shit kicked out of them, that could still happen in Chicago or New York!
I moved to Cayman from California when I turned 21 in 1998. I lived and worked there for almost 4 years. I learned more about people and life while living there than any amount of schooling could have ever tought me. Cayman was where I met most of my influential gay friends who to this day have changed my perception and made me who I am today ( a great supporter of people who love eachother regardless of sexual orientation). There were SO MANY gay and bisexual people living in Cayman that is just crazy that they actually had a law against being gay. We all were perplexed at how sad it truly was that the only places our friends felt comfortable with PDA's were in a select few clubs, house party's and middle of the night raves that we would have all the time. Oh… the good days! I LOVE Cayman…and I am sure most people realize that it's a very small Island with a WHOLE LOT of churches…it's how they grew up and it's what they know.
Obviously not all Cayman people or Expats are unsupportive of the lifestyle….it's going to take time for other people to come around. It's just ironic to me that this is where I met so many of my gay and lesbian friends( many of who were Caymanian and Jamaican not just expats)….so my advice is that anyone is welcome in Cayman, but be selective about where you make out with someone if you are the same sex - it's just like the city you are from, you are more comfortable in the areas around town that are more tolerant right? Well..Cayman can be a little conservative - you'll still enjoy your vacation. Big Ups to everyone from back in the day…..Outback Crew, Da Joint, XTC, Velvet Lounge, The Next Level, Cimboco, Sharkies, Big Daddy's, O Lounge, Seaview, Royal Palms, on a yaught to Cayman Kai, rollin with your friends while the sun is shinin at Around the World at Rum Point, yummy Chicken Chicken and that place with the bomb ass mudslides…what was the name again? I think it was in Frank Sound or East End…..

I have to say… i am a caymanian myself and i am now ashamed to call myself one! The cayman government/some residents claim to be godly and claim that they accept everyone as equal but this and the story about the gay cruise eariler is crazy! I am not gay myself but i think that this is complete BS and it pisses me off! They thrive to make other peoples life a living hell because they have crap life themselves, sitting on their asses all day getting fat and high! I love my country and the some the people in it, i grew up there and spent most of my life so far there but because of this I call myself an EX-caymanian!
I don't give two hoots what one's stance is on homosexuality. if you are in a place, not owned by you, that asks you to stop doing something, you either stop, or leave. The place he was in was privately owned. If I own a bar, I can by most any means necessary remove someone that I deem is trouble making. See the owner ALSO has rights.
So no matter where you think you should be allowed to PDA, it doesn't matter.
And calling people names because they don't go along with your lifestyle makes you a bigot BTW.
If one cannot watch two men (I doubt it would cause much dilemma if two women kissed…) share a kiss, then he should just look elsewhere. Staring is rude anyways.
"ALSO the royal palms is a nice place in a high-end area in cayman.
a gay couple wouldn't walk into the Ritz Carlton in toronto and start making out in front of all the old conservative people there or they'd get the same complaints. same shit different place."
And they have every right to complain. Just like you do. You guys seem to think that bigotness is only one sided.
You are acting like the very people you hate.
It's like "FREE SPEACH AND FREE THOUGHT FOR EVERYONE THAT THINKS LIKE ME"
Everyone else is bigots!1

Lots of intolerance in this thread. And I am not speaking about conservatives or the religious.
On the other hand, I don't make a point to make out with my husband on the dance floor - so I would irritated too. Whether they were straight, bi or gay, I don't want to see you dry humping your partner.
These people should consider themselves lucky, if they had gone to any other island such as jamaica they would probably have been a victim of hate crimes. Caribbean People are Homo-phobic they always have been and always will be so if you have a problem with that, then stay the fuck away from our island!!
sounded like he was given several warnings. if u travel u should know the laws of where u r going. it's called respect, more people need to learn what it means.
Down here in the Islands we do not judge others because of
thier sexual choices we judge them by thier character we could care less if are homosexual or Hetrosexual expect for a few close minded people that is set in there ways and you will
find people like them all over the world.
When we go to the U.S.A. we respect your laws so why can't the same respect be given to us. As for the cruise ship that came here instead of everybody focusing on the pastors association protest why don't you write about all the people who welcomed those who came off the ship with welcome arms and took pictures with them and for them I find it sad that your title read Do not go on vacation to the Cayman Islands because here in Cayman we have so much to offer and you are juding all three island on the basis of an islolated incendent.
what upsets me most is that some gays tries to force their life style down your throat. If you know that you will offend someone, why do it unless you are trying to stir something.
When we go to America we respect their laws. why not have the decency to do the same when you come to Cayman
dutty battyboy, why don't you try that crap in a Jamaican night club. Then come back & brag about it.
A wa do these ilkkle ppl dey a cayman… y dey didnt just lef fe de couple alone!!!! so if una wan to read wa dey said about it go to (www.caymannetnews.com)
I'm Caymanian (which I rarely admit to, as I am often ashamed of my country) I personally think that the woman responsible for Mr. Chandler's humiliting experience ought to be arrested for entrapment and the police officer charged with abuse of power. It probably won't happen, but I can dream. All of the politicians, citizens, clergy etc. claim to speak for all of Cayman, but they don't. I, for one, think Mr. Chandler did nothing wrong and I'm appalled by what happened. By all means, bycott us; we learn our lessons the hard way and by attacking our wallets we might actually sit up and pay attention.

I live in Grand Cayman and i have been for the last 23 years and i just want to apologize for the stupidity of some of the Caymanians that live here and if any one was offended by the unnessacary actions that were taken place recently. Some people not just in the Cayman Islands are not open minded. Yes we are a very religous island so the people here should know better than to judge. Again I apologize on behalf of the people here that do not have a problem with gay people or them showing affection in public.
im from the cayman islands and am not against people being gay, u shouldnt dub the whole population of the cayman islands as hating gay people. if this couple were asked to stopped they should have, they're in another country they should be respectful. but i wanted the public to know that not everyone in the cayman islands is homophobic. while i don't have a problem with homosexuality, dont push it in people's faces, if a place has different customs and rules then where ur from u should try and abide to them.
im sorry for anyone who feels offended at what happened but not every1 in the cayman islands hates homosexuals.
I am a Caymanian Born and rasied, we never grew up see any of that shit happening we always new that their were gay people living on and the island and still do to date but keep their affection to them selves. They do not go out in public and get on all crazy all over each other and by the way when you are a visitors to a country and a native tells you that your actions is illegal and if a police officer comes up to you and tells you again that your actions is illegal then you stop you don't be rude and continue without any respect. but guess what you Americans are very rude and believe that everyday you go through out the world you feel like you can push anything down anyones throat and the rules of that land is absolutely WRONG and STUPID do you see as Caymanians coming to American and tell you that your laws are stupid and wrond NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
So if you are going to visit our Island then treat is with respect we don't give a FUCKING SHIT what you do in your hotel room that is you FUCKING business but what you do in public is OUR BUSINESS AND IT IS ILLEGAL THEN WE WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST IT
i,m a caymanian and how do dear u guys bash my islands! Americans are the most ignorant ppl ever! U guys think that ever country in the world have 2 follow how u guys think and act and we decided not 2 do it and u bash our country 4 it! Screw u! This coming from a country who ban praying from schools and make laws that allow u 2 murder ur child! U guys think u have the rite 2 bash anything that not like u guys! The situation was the men were kissing on the dancefloor and ppl were getting offended because its a family restaurant wit a with a bar outside, the police was in suvillian clothing and he asked the men if they could refrain from the PDA because they were kids and families in there and the law states homosexual public affection is not tolerable. We don't hate gays we have gay ppl in cayman we're jus a country based on Christianity and its our law! U come here u obey our laws. After the police warned the man he showed the police officer a rude gesture and that's way led 2 him being detained. It seems as if he was trying 2 purposely get the police 2 react so he can go back 2 the states and start some dumb shit like this. Cayman has been doin well without the gays visitin 4 years, this won't make a difference. Its a family destination anyways! Lol. U guys have bigger things 2 worry about anyways like the war and the possible recession u guys mite fall into! This is trivial compared 2 wat should be really important. LOSERS!
cayman islands is one of the best vacation spots in the world. tourism is a number one revenue bringer. just because we arent overcrowded with gay population dont talk shit like dont vacation there dumb ass. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has charged a man with 6 counts of indecent assault on a male. 35-year-old Gifford Clayton Harley Prendergast, of Frank Sound Road, appeared before the courts today (Thursday, 15 March) and was remanded in custody until May 22. The charges come following in investigation by the Family Support Unit (FSU).

taken from the caymans local paper, may 15th,
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has charged a man with 6 counts of indecent assault on a male. 35-year-old Gifford Clayton Harley Prendergast, of Frank Sound Road, appeared before the courts today (Thursday, 15 March) and was remanded in custody until May 22.
