you're right. peopel are just confused because of how the split is on the florida picture. This would not actually be how the split would be made if this thing came to pass. Orlando would definatly be in N.Florida.
Afer listening to the audio clip ..I'm thinking maybe it would be a good idea. It might actually help South Florida financially.
At first i thought it was the north trying to scratch South florida off like a flea.. but from the audio it sounds like the idea started in the south ..

this is the best idea ever! i have been joking about this for years….i had no idea it was possible. i'm from miami which is a democratic area (actually, all of south florida is) and i am sick to death of florida going republican! South florida has a much higher concentration of people and will get more electoral votes than north fl (republican area..boooo!) in short, split Florida lose the red.
i live in north florida and it SUCKS!!! don't know much about south florida haven't gotten down there much. sure there's a lot of spanish down there but i'm sure its better than the shithole area i live.

It is clear NONE of you know anything about politics or the economy.
The reason the city of north lauderdale is pushing for this is because South Florida (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties) bring in more money than all the other counties in Florida combined. Hence they pay more taxes. However, the state does not allocate those counties anymore money than the rest of the counties in the state.
When you look at it from that perspective, what they are trying to do is not that crazy.
If you people would spend more time reading about important events in the news and less time on dumb gossip sites like this, perhaps you might be a little more informed.
P.S. - I am pretty sure the "lightning bolt" shaped line is not the official line they are trying to draw. It is not meant to be taken literally.

why do people always try and find the divide in places? Doesnt make any difference if there are different ways of living in each end. I think employment, income, cost of living, etc have everything to do with way of life. It shouldnt be a bad thing….

I grew up in S. Florida and live in Tampa now. I think they should split it. South Florida is COMPLETELY different then northern Florida and the needs of the people are different. I grew up in Pembroke Pines which was beautiful, low key and calm when I moved there and now its insane, northern cities aren't as crowded and busy. I would have to agree and I am surprised Perez doesn't since he is from Miami.

Regardless of what the Declaration of Independence says, that document has nothing to do with our government and how it's run. The Constitution, which IS the basis of our government, states that it is unconstitional to create a new state out of any portion of an existing state. The one exception was when the counties that now make up West Virginia voted to remain with the union just prior to the Civil War and, due to the circumstances, werew admitted to the union as a separate state.
Even if Florida were to seriously entertain the idea of dividing into two parts, they'd have to orchestrate an amendment to the US Constitution in order to make this possible. And we all know how hard that is to do.
This is never going to happen. Don't worry about it.

Not idiots at all, please do some research prior to drawing your map. We do not want Orlando. Florida is divided between liberal city folks in south florida (west palm on down). Rednecks are everywhere else. The state gives us mandates for more programs but wants more money from us. We give the most money to the state and in turn we get more mandates that we have to comply with and the state always wants more money. We are treated different compared to other parts of the state. None of our legislations that are meant to benefit South Florida ever pass. But we are quick to vote for legislations benefiting other parts of the state. Do your homework then call us idiots slick!

The map was not drawn properly. Orlando has nothing on South Florida when it comes to revenue. We want West Palm on down. Florida can keep the redneck areas. North of West Palm and the west side of the state.
