Her Madgesty held another showcase gig in Paris on Tuesday night and got a little sticky and sweet with one of the female backup dancers.
M must have been in a festive mood. She has plenty of reason to celebrate! Her new album, Hard Candy, has debuted #1 on the U.S. album charts, selling 282,000 copies its debut week.

I am not surprised by the "lack" of sales. She has been around for over 25 years, so it isn't that bad. Regarding the Britney references, Brit did sell more, but she is a newer artist. You can't really compare the two.
The publicity for this Hard Candy CD was weird, more Business 2.0 than other campaigns. It just didn't click. She sold each song as a commercial (Japanese soap operas, Sunsilk, etc.), did a webcast and mobile phone cast, private party concerts for VIPs, and a limited number of interviews via press junket. Yuck. She should have done maybe something more traditional? Oprah, sing live on a talk show, Ellen, something!
Prior to this she did the Gucci fundraiser, then the Berlin Film Fest to plug her directorial debut, then the documentary she bankrolled. During all of this no one was allowed to ask her about her new CD! WTF?
Methinks her nor WB really care about the marketing, so they agreed to market the CD unconventionally. Also, since she is a business woman first and foremost, I believe she has already made a boat load thru the endorsements, the LiveNation deal, and the upcoming tour. She knows which side her bread is buttered on. Artists no longer make money thru record sales. Kudos to the kutzpah, but most people don't connect via viral marketing.
What is funny, her last "R&B" cd, Bedtime Stories, followed the same pattern. She had a huge single, Take a Bow. The CD didn't sell to well, by pundits standards, as this one may, but the single, 4 Minutes, is still selling, even Mariahs.
All in all what will really matter is if the CD has 'legs'.
