Despite the insane media attention that followed her surprise wedding to Nick Cannon last week, Mariah Carey's new single, Bye Bye, has plummeted on this week's Soundscan singles chart in America.
The song drops from #22 to #41.
Sucks for her!
People may be interested in her wedding, but it seems like they don't care about her single!
Madonna, on the other hand, is doing quite well on the chart.
4 Minutes is currently at #3 this week and her second single, Give It 2 Me, debuted at #21.
Congrats, Madge.

Also..4 Minutes has sold over a million copies. Touch My Fat Body hasn't even cracked a million yet. How did it hit number one? It hasn't even sold as many copies. Something is wrong with that whacked out Billboard chart. The top seller isn't number one, but some boring song is. What gives?

There's usually a lag before publicity "pays off". It's Vadge's first week, so she's expected to debut at #1, but even you know that 280,000 units is rather WEAK. Let's see how she does next week! The "Bye Bye" video got a soft release this week on the internet, with Mariah nowhere to be seen, but wait until she gets back to work with that "just married" glow! Hard Can…what?

Personally, I think Madonna sucks, she was only good in the 80's. And Mariah is amazing. And honestly I have not heard any of Madonna's new songs on the radio, And have heard a few of Mariahs new singles. Not that I really love radio music, but it does show a really good depiction of whats on top. Anyways, just wanted to state my opinion.

The comparison between Madonna & Mariah is very intersting. For those Mariah lambs, the battle is far from won. And for the madonna fans, you are winning some and you've lost some. First of all, 4 minutes is the more successful single. TMB has sold about 400K less copies. Simple fact. Regardless of charting, which is 50% radio airplay, 4 minutes is the bigger single, #1 status is rigged in the USA. E=MC2 wins in the album sales department, outselling Hard Candy by about 150K copies in the first week. However, take that with a grain of salt, Hard Candy is #1 in at least 27 countries, and total worldwide sales might actually prove to be Madonna's victory. One final note, Madonna's sales have been despite, a non-existent promotional effort from Madonna's former record company Warner.

I am a fan of both BUT i recogniize that Mariah can actually sing and 4 minutes is hot because Justin can sing.
I like a couple of the songs on Mariah's new album but Bye Bye is not one of them. Treacly is the word that comes to mind. I want Migrate to be a single. And I love For the Record, too. I think that comes closest in my opinion to matching the magic of We Belong Together. I don't begrude Mariah her chart success but I would CRINGE if Bye Bye turned out to be her 19th #1 hit like all her fans on iTunes seem to be hoping for.
On the other hand — Madonna's new album is HOT. Dance 2Night, Heartbeat, Spanish Lesson… one SICK dance song after the next. It's 100 times more fun than Confessions on a Dance Floor was.
I wish both ladies much success. In today's music industry, artists seem to be made to be disposable. It's so nice to see that neither of these legends plans on going anywhere.
Madge will outlast all the PRETENDERS to her throne. And Mariah can just shatter her competition's eardrums with a well-placed high-note or two.
