Potter = Gold

2007_07_23t100941_450x294_u.jpg

The new Harry Potter book sold like hot cakes this past weekend!

The final installment in the franchise moved 8.3 million copies in its first 24 hours on sale in the U.S., setting a new record.

Deathly Hallows averaged more than 300,000 copies in sales per hour - more than 5,000 a minute.

At $34.99 a piece, the last Potter book generated far more revenue than the opening weekend of the latest Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which came out July 10th.

So have you read the last book???

You like it????

It was slow in the beginning and it felt like the story was trying to fit in too much in too short of a time. I think she could have thrown in another 200 pages with lead up and explanation instead of creating an entirely new storyline (Albus' childhood) in just this one book. Good idea, B- for actual implementation. Plus, she left more unanswered than answered in the epilogue…hello what are those adults doing with themselves now besides having kids?

Read the book and it was a good book, though like most I agree the epilogue left much to be desired. I also agree that the epilogue in particular sounded like more of a fanfic than something JK would write. Minus the epilogue I did enjoy the book a lot. I was only bothered by 1 of the deaths, as she really went into how it affected Harry. The rest of them just seemed like a "by the way so and so died". I know there was a lot going on but it seemed like the book spent a lot of time with the "3" moaning and bitching and not getting anywhere. Some parts of the book were wrote brilliantly though. Not sure if it is my favorite but it was a good book for the most part.

I LOVED the book. I finished it yesterday at 5 am. I thought it was very well written. And I especially loved the epilogued. I thought it gave her fans an extra something special. Without it, people would have wondered. Did they end up together, did they have kids, and so on. And I especially loved the talk Harry had with his son Albus before he got on the train. I found that everything pieced together perfectly in the book that I was wondering from the previous book. Loved it!!

    117

Yep, and it was wonderful !

I cried like a baby during some parts, but I'm glad I keep an open mind about some people in the book. I could not believe I was done with it on Saturday.

J.K.R. tied everything up very nicely, and she even left where she could put out new books, or let someone else pick up where she left off.

Reading it now, trying to make it last. I don't want it to end!

    119

I thought the book was amazing. It pieced everything from HBP perfectly- all of the questions I had previously. I really liked the epilogue. She wrote it specifically for her fans and I thought it was a great way to end it. I especially liked the exchange between Harry and his son Albus. I thought it was really sweet. I thought it was really nice to know that the couples who you wanted to be together ACTUALLY ended up together. I felt that most of my questions had been answered in this book except for how Neville ended up with the sword.. and how Harry was a descendent of Pervelle.

I thought it was really nice to know that the couples who you wanted to be together ACTUALLY ended up together. 123

I thought it was weak. The first couple chapters were good but after that it felt like she was rushing through it. It didn't have the richness of the other books. Too many points were wrapped up in too short of a time span. But, I did LOVE how she dealt with the Snape issue.

  24. Mary says – reply to this

    124

I thought it was amazing!! I laughed and I cried all the way through. It was hands down Rowling's best yet. A movie will never be able to do this book justice!! I liked the epilogue… It gave some closure. Hopefully Rowling does another series!!!

this book was horrible - it sounded like a 12 year old girl wrote it. really - who marries their bf or gf from when they were 16?! (except maybe white trash) I had downloaded this version when it was leaked last week, read about 50 pages and then trashed it because I was certain that this was fan-fiction it was so lame. I want my $37 back!

    156

I actually liked the 19 years later. I was happy to know that Harry and Ginny ended up together and that Ron and Hermione were together. I loved that he had 3 kids and they were all named after his loved ones. I think it's great to hear him talk about Snape and realize that he really understood what he did for him. I also liked how they mentioned Teddy and how involved Harry was in his Godson's life. She definately left room for another book explaining what went on in those lost 19 years.

  57. Chrissie says – reply to this

    157

    i love it.
Dumbloedore DID die, but he communicates with Harry.
A ton of deaths…Mad-Eye, Hedwig, Dobby, Fred, Tonks, Lupin and even little Colin Creevy.
Snape was always good. he loved Harry's mother from childhood (before Hogwart's) so he was pledged to protect Harry for her sake. Harry's eyes were the same as his mother's, a constant reminder to Snape of his undying love for Lily.
Tonks and Lupin have a baby boy (Teddy) and Harry is the godfather.
    Bill and Fleur get married.
    Percy comes back.
    Hermione and Ron get together.
    Harry and Ginny get together.
    Voldemort dies, obviously.
The ending is a bit disappointing, but everyone lives happily ever after.

Sorry, but I told you it was spoilers.

  58. sexy nader says – reply to this

    158

    Disappointing.

There were too many plot holes.

    Not enough Hogwarts.

Too much explanations at some points and not enough at others.

I'll try to read it again slower this time to see if I like it better.

BTW…who did magic late in life? Wasn't that one of JK's spoilers?

    163

I think she wrote the epilogue so that a person couldn't write a book based on her series where Harry or any of those people died.
Also, maybe you don't understand the obsession with the series but some people don't understand the obsession with Lord of the Rings and I know I don't understand the obsession with Lost. To each their own.

It felt rushed. I was disappointed, I thought there will be more action and that Harry would actually be able to do some of the defending himself. (Honestly it was not until the end he showed it). In other books Harry seemed to grow with the circumstances, this was not the case.

I believe that most Hard back novels come out set at $35.00. I was actually reading something about small local bookstores not even carrying Harry Potter because they would have to sell it at full price in order to make any money on it and the big guys are selling it at 1/2 off or at a loss and they couldn't compete.
Also most of the wizarding world seems to live more in "pre electricity" kind of early 20th century. With candle and torches and so on. Well people did get married by 16 then! Also they are even trends now, in times of great war and strife people get married and start pumping out kids faster and younger than ever.

I was definitely one of those people who said these books were for kids and made fun of my friends that read them (even though I do read every other type of book), and even had to be dragged to the first movie by a friend. After I saw that first movie I was hooked and HAD to know what happened next. JK Rowling is a wonderful author that got children (and some adults) reading again. This last one was great, but I agree that she should have said how the wizerding world dealt with the aftermath. Not for kids, I was suprised at some of the different things in there. Loved it though and very happy with how it ended.
