Potter = Gold
The new Harry Potter book sold like hot cakes this past weekend!
The final installment in the franchise moved 8.3 million copies in its first 24 hours on sale in the U.S., setting a new record.
Deathly Hallows averaged more than 300,000 copies in sales per hour - more than 5,000 a minute.
At $34.99 a piece, the last Potter book generated far more revenue than the opening weekend of the latest Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which came out July 10th.
So have you read the last book???
You like it????

i was the first out the door at our b&n; finished by noon on saturday (had to sleep, cook bfast, run an errand, etc. - arrg). i was not impressed. hopefully i'll like it better the second time around (started re-reading sat night)… but ******SPOILERS*******
ginny should've been in it so much more. hermione suddenly couldn't figure things out - wtf? and omg - the lotr:ring::hp7:locket thing was so banal. percy should've been killed, not george. the epilogue was exceedingly lame. there were no huge surprises - it was just too predictable. oh well.

I loved every page! What a beautiful completion of an amazing adventure.
I just finished it litterally i really loved it actually!!!! I WANT MORE THO
Yeah it was great, Ending a bit cliche, but still what a book
The book was fantastic… by the way… George didnt die!
a brilliant book. proved that some of my predictions were correct. ie: the horcruxes and snape's loyalty. well, the ending was great, but the "nineteen years later" thing was.. UGH. i hate harry and ginny together.
I loved it! J.K is an amazing writer. I was very happy with how it ended.
Ahh I'm glad the obssesion will soon end.
I loved it, was a brilliant book. Cried when tonks and lupin died though, just so sad, and they loved each other really and they had just had a baby.
Didn't like the 19 years later bit though, she could have done so much more with it. Like what happened to the rest of the weasleys, luna etc???
i went to the midnight release on friday.. finished by 7:30 pm on saturday. it was glorious. loved it. sad tho that since all the loose ends got tied up so nicely, there's really nothing to guess about anymore.
i read the first book when i was 11, harry was 11.. it was perfect. i grew up with him. its like a huge chunk of my childhood is over, but what a brilliant way to go…
It was great. All loose ends tied up. I was entertained and satisfied…but sad that it's over.
The book was amazinggggggg !
I'm so sad that there's no more books though..
This is weird but it kind of feels like a old friend has moved, and you know you'll never see them again. =S
Alot of the spoilers were true, at least the ones I read were.
And $39.99 !? Mine was only $19.99 .. ahh well.
I wish I could make about $290 million in one day!!
theres none left now!
its so sad
they could have made 10 years of books better then an eleven page ending!
WTF IS THAT
though,
i must say
IM SO HAPPY SNAPE WAS GOOD
IT EXPLAINS SO MUCH!
I was disappointed with the ending. I mean, in 7 books now we've been hearing how powerful Voldemart is and how everyone is afraid of him and then the ending was so lame! And the Malfoys just stop supporting Voldemart just like that? No one saw Harry put on the invisibilitycloak and Voldemart didn't check for himself that Harry was dead when for years he's been looking forward to the moment that he finally kills Harry Potter? Oh, and how did Neville take off the sorting hat with flames and a curse like it was no big deal to break Voldemart's curse when, again, for 7 books we've been hearing how powerful and unbreakable Voldemart's dark magic is? Because of this lame ending that was a big letdown, I have to say that my favorite book in the series is still Book 4. It seems that ever since J.K. Rowling took 3 years off between writing book 4 and book 5, her writing and imagination have suffered tremendously in Books 5, 6, and 7. I absolutely hated book 5 and thought that was the absolute worst out of all 7 in the series!
i read the whole thing in about 10 hours..i'm a dork! But the book was great!
Just got mine last night. I'm on page 106 and so far AMAZING!!!!
loved it except for two things: why wasn't one of his children named for sirius, and why didn't we get to find out what harry (and ron and hermione) ended up doing as a job? thats fucked up what was the point of dragging us through preparing for O.W.L s if u didn't get to see the fruits of the labor?????? am i alone?
Loved the book, but the only thing I don't understand is that Harry and Hermione were alone in that tent forever. You're telling me they didn't hook up?? COME ON!
Read it from 6:30p to 3am on the 21st. It was by far the best one of the whole series. They better not trash it in the movies like they did for OOTP.
yes! i love the new book! but it is rather sad! it is way more sad than the rest of the books.
I want Snape to be my babydaddy.
Oh wait, he's dead
i loved the last book…it was amazing. i can't believe there aren't anymore to look forward to. i can't wait for the movie to come out!
I'm reading the book, I'm at half of the end =D I'm so loving this book.
This was the worst book. *insert Men on Film* "Hated it!"
I fucking loved it Perez!!!!! Best book EVER. People can say what they want about Harry Potter, but it's an amazing story, and made literature fun again. JKR deserves every dollar she earns.
It was beautiful! I cried and shrieked and laughed, it was sooooo good!
I'm still feeling inspired and glowing from the read.
I LOVED IT! I've been a fan since I was in 4th grade and this, by far, is my favorite book.
Loved it. CRIED when Dobby died. WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
This was BY FAR the best book of the series. It has been an amazing experience to watch JK Rowling's writing evolve over the years. I am very sad that it's over, but am happy with the way she chose to tie the series together. Definitely not a "children's book." If you're a Potter person and haven't read it yet, DO SO IMMEDIATELY…
Got it on saturday started reading it and finished 6 hours later…non stop. I felt it was a good way to wrap up some of the unfinished questions and let us all down to a gentle stop. But I am sad that there is nothing to look forward to with Harry…. Hope that her next books are as good.
read it loved it read all the others & loved them 2
Finished it Saturday night. I cried like a bastard.
i loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i cried…it was by far the best book ever! im glad he married ginny!
jk should do like a spin off!…i wouold love to read it!
harry is my hero!
highly disappointed to find out that the whole malarkey regarding how harry had his mother's eyes was just because of snape.
You know that the people calling Harry Potter fans nerds and making stupid-ass comments are insulting a book and people who actually READ. Its a shame these days that not much INTELLIGENT entertainment sparks the conversation and excitement like these books have. Its obvious that they have never picked up a book in their lives and have the intelligence of a 2 year old.
the book was amazing. jk rowling is the best author ever and totally talented. i will never look forward to another book like i did with this harry potter book.
who dies????????????
the book was brilliant…left out a few parts like how longbottom got back the griffendore sword, but i think it was the only way she could end it without having to enter into hiding from all of the mad fans if she had killed off harry
THAT WAS THE BEST HARRY POTTER BOOK EVER MADE
I cant believe it's all over
:[
i was soo sad and i cried more than once
I HOPE THEY DONT SCREW UP THE MOVIE LIKE THEY DID TO THE 5TH ONE
I think i read it in record time
all 749 pages in about 2 days
Everyone is asking if the fucking kid dies. Who cares!
Bitch just sold $ 290,417,000 (USD) worth of books. In 24 Hours.
Thats $ 12,100,708 worth of Harry Potter each HOUR.
Or $ 201,678 each minute.
How about $ 3,361 each second?
Fuck!
it was amazing and i can't believe i have no more harry potter books to read. definitely the best
I read the last chap to see who dies
Number 159 - i hope you die a horrible death - you NEVER said anything about spoilers if you even have the IQ to read your own posting - someone should mangle your vagina with dental tools and make your mother watch.
have a nice day!! Biatch
i have been a fan for a long time so when i was reading the last book i couldn't stop for 7 hours straight i was so tired after finishing it.
really well written….. but fuck the epilogue.
it didn't explain anything..
i wanted to hear more about the characters people have
been reading for 10 years.
i hope jkr answers un-answered plot details in an interview or something
best book out of the seven. i cant believe its over.
It was amazing!!!!!!!
harry potter is so fucking stupid. its all a bunch of fantasy shit. and the assholes that just say "first" for their comment need to stop
The book was a total disappointment. The continuity editor deserves to be fired! So many things were contradictions to facts established in previous books, JKR's site or interviews, and some things were just plain sloppy. The epilogue was craptastic, and felt totally pasted on. I wish she'd taken more time and done it right.
Bought it Sat night @ 9pm, finished Sun night @ 11:30pm
book was fantabulous, but a little anticlimactic…the ending was definitely rushed, and could have been much longer but still the best in the series! keeping my fingers crossed for a new series featuring albus potter!
LMAO @ #61. Well said.
THE MOST AMAZING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!
Awesome book minus the epilogue…too cheasy
the book WAS amazing! so good! ♥
Half way reading the book and I'm luvin every page that I read. I can't seem to put it down but I don't want to rush reading it cause there wont be anymore Harry Potter adventures after this =(
The book is amazing!
I loved it!! I like how it brought all of the minor characters in and gave them all parts. I was especially glad that Percy asked for forgivness and i liked that Dudley said thank you to Harry. And i ABSOLUTELY loved Neville's grandmother… i couldn't stop laughing!!
I read it in less than 24 hours it was AMAZING
I read it and liked it. I guess I just expected more.. A lot of things weren't explained.. Like St. Mungos.. Neville's parents..what happened to the Ministry..Hogwarts Headmaster.. I dunno.. It was good though
ahhh it was so good i almost died
i cried at the beginning and the end
sooo amazing!
oh and
ily perez
If you liked Harry Potter then check out my favorite serial, the Thursday Next series, starting with The Eyre Affair (look it up on Amazon, and no matter what they say, you kind of need to start with The Eyre Affair). Its great for HP fans who grew up and got their degrees in English Lit. It is not as epic but it is just about as thrilling, suspenseful, hysterically funny, and is brilliantly inventive. Without exception, every single one of my adult friends who loves HP has fallen in love with Thursday Next. You all were waiting for HP, I cant wait until tomorrow when the next Thursday Next book comes out!!!
Thank you JK for making millions and millions of lives richer and happier, and especially for turning untold millions of children into lifetime readers. I like TV and music and movies and video games, but nothing can quite compare to the magic of a great book working its way through our imagination. Teaching my four year old niece how to read the books that I learned how to read with is pure magic. In another 5 years she will be ready for HP and Tolkein, and in 14 the Thursday Next books. And there is a vast universe after that. As great as Harry Potter was, and is, there is even better stuff out there, so when you finish this series, share it with your children and go find other stuff for you!
I loved the book! It was 20 bucks at Barnes and Noble… It took me like 10 hours to finish it after taking my son to the HP party… It was a PERFECT ending… And I DUG the epilogue… We are sad it is over…
FUCKING HATED IT!!! LONGEST DRAWN OUT THING EVER
Deathly Hallows = Amazing
$39.99??seriously?i payed £10.99 for mine.
read it and loved it! but i definitely could have done without that epilogue! blahh
It sucked….Too cheesy and bleh!
best book ever!
SHITTY ending.
lmao, i hate to say it, but they all live happily ever after?
come on.
and they didn't even have a page, let alone a paragraph about ginny and harry getting together, they just.. were.
and ginny was hardly in it. plus percy, he just waltz back in all oh im on your side now.
hopefully itll get better as i re-read it, but i doubt it.
they better put a ginny/harry scene in the movie, or ill be pissed. lol
not my favourite book, but it was good.
noone that hasn't taken to the harry potters can possibly understand the literary genius that is JK Rowling. these books suck you in, just like perez seems to do daily..(sometimes multiple times a day…) absolutely.simply.amazing. quite possibly the greatest storyteller of our time!
It was good. I'm gonna miss it though.
It is the best book in the series! I couldn't put the book down. It keeps you on the edge the entire time!
i can't belive harry and geni (ron's lil sister) got married and had 3 kids..it was happy ending even though people thought harry would die and every thing..well he did killed himself at the middle but he had to come back ..everything is cool
I absolutely LOVED it! sad to see it end but could not have asked for a better way. Very bitter sweet.
read it and loved it! Amazing = )
***********Spoilers ahead for those still reading the book***************
I got my copy on Saturday at 1 pm and I finished reading it by Sunday at 10 pm. I did like it, but I have to agree with some of the other posters who noted that the story seemed to drag on at some points but conversely, I also found that it jumped through too much too quickly at other points. Some things (like wandlore and possession of other people's wands- especially relating to the elder wand) needed more explaining.
I also found that the epilogue was a bit of a let down. Like another poster, I would have liked to learn more about the aftermath and how the wizarding community managed to bring about order after the chaos. It was a bit disappointing to have just an epilogue talking about things nineteen years later.
Though it was a somber book, I didn't cry at all through reading this book. I found Dumbledore's death in the last book to be more sad. Though I must admit that Hedwig's and especially Dobby's deaths were really tough to read about.
I too am a bit sad that we may not be reading about Harry Potter ever again, but there's still hope I suppose. The way that the story ended leaves room for future books (if JK Rowling feels up to it).
The book is great so far. I can't wait to finish it. I heard it sold 72 million worldwide…but my copy didn't cost $34.99, only $22.72. Guess I caught a bargin.
I loved the book, although i wish the end would have told us what Harry became- Auror, Teacher, Minister?? There was so much talk of his future career in previous books that i wish she had cleared it up.
i don't give a rats arse about harry potter
This author is a witch and has cast a spell on her books. Its amazing how suddenly the whole world is in love with her books and how they can sell like that. Even people that hate to read and grown adults are into her books? Hmmm…seems fishy to me. SHE'S A WITCH AND HER BOOKS ARE EVIL!
looks like the leaked "fake" was real.. Still a good read though!
Harry who????
The book was great, it was a wonderful way of ending 10 years of tears, fear, love and joy! I am very happy with the way J.K Rowling summed it up. I can't wait to see the final movie even though they never do the books justice. I hope everyone will read and enjoy this final book and then reread all of them again, which is what I will be doing asap!
wtf??? what the eff is up with these dang message boards??? i actually like to read about what other people think about certain things, but have become so annoyed at this…first, first, was i first, is this the first comment, first, first, first, first….SHUT THE EFF UP!!!!!…..geez, who really cares if you were first….SHUT UP!!! it's not just here it's everywhere!!! anyway…loved the book, loved the series and I'm terribly saddened that there will be no more harry potter stories….ooooo….i hope I'm the 475th comment….it would just make my life complete…..
loved it to bits!! simply the best author.
This book was amazing, I just finished it an hour ago. I'm so sad that this part of my life is over! But I think the way she ended it was perfect.
The book was amazing - by page 76 I had already cried 3 times! The "19 years later…" part was kinda silly, but I guess she had to cover her tracks and have some finality to it. Something tells me people won't want to read about Harry Potter as a 36 year old father of three.
lalalalalove it!!!!!!! i miss fred already!!!!!!!!!!
JK! write some more!!!!!!!!
loved it.. it was a great ending to a great story..
i am forever fascinated by all the allusions to folklore from different cultures jk rowling includes in her books. though the language itself is nothing special, the content is endlessly imaginative. it was BRIL.
I am so happy with the way it ended. It made me very happy. And now I must read them all over again and read them to my kids when I have them! They are classics
it was amazing! i cried so hard. i cant believe its over.
its crushing.
simply Godlike!!
I don't understand how this one in praticular could be claimed as a childrens book. It's for teens really. There is so much Death through the whole thing. If you are seventeen, pat yourself on your back, you are the poster child for Harry potter. She started writing in 1990, the first one out in 1997. and the last one, we are the same age as Harry. Sad to see it end though.
Was the best book I've ever read. such a superb ending to a fantasticly magical journey.
Everything ended the way it was suppose to and now we must all move on with our lives yet Harry Potter will remain in her hearts forever….gosh the final book…it's astonishing, brilliant and I will truly miss the series.
I don't think anyone can ever forget Harry Potter.
Yes I read it. I loved it! My favorite of the lot, actually. I didn't pay so much though, only $22.45 (including tax).
