Coldplay has agreed to team up with ESPN to help promote their broadcast of the upcoming European Championship soccer tournament.
The supergroup's tunes from their new release, Viva La Vida, will be featured in the tourney's promo spots.
Soccer matches start on June 7th.
This dovetails nicely with Viva La Vida's drop date, June 12th.
We're looking forward to seeing lots of pix of the hotness that is Cristiano Ronaldo, who'll be playing for Portugal.
It's really too bad that England didn't make it into the tourney — no David Beckham!!!

Another interesting fact, Americans call this sport SOCCER and the English call it FOOTBALL . History tells us that in England, 1863. The English started the Football Association. Teams which were in this asSOCiaton were abbreviated by SOCcers.
So the sport which is called SOCCER in America was given its name by the English.
But they (the English) chose to call it football later again.

Re: Grapehead – As you point out, Soccers were the teams that were in the association. It was not used to describe the sport. Big difference. As the nation that invented the sport, I think the English should know how it should be named. It was played hundreds of years before that other English rugby based sport, American football. It may also interest you to know that the origins of baseball are English. In fact the most popular field sports in the world today originated from a little country called England.
