I cant stand it when people claim that they "dont believe" in birth control. Ok, Id rather have 20 children come out of my vagina instead…to sin or to self mudilate? HMMMM
These people can never have "too many children." They're part of a fundamentalist Christian cult called the "Quiverfull" movement and they are creating an "army of Christian soldiers." In their cult, the more kids you have, the better the Christian you think you are. It's disgusting. They're just a tax on resources.

i think this is incredibly selfish of the parents. the children cannot possibly get the decent amount of attention and love they deserve from the parents, given there are SEVENTEEN others. its one thing to support a large family financially and another to support them through your time & care as a parent. its also selfish of them to bring so many into the world in a time when there are many needy children looking to be adopted, or put in foster homes, both in the US and abroad.

None of those children appear to be neglected to me and with all the attention they are getting then I am sure those children have been checked on. As long as they support them it is their business how many they have, not ours. There are too many major things going on in this world for anyone to be in such an uproar over their personal choices. It's not sad that older children help younger ones. It helps them learn to become responsible, which let's face it most children are lacking in this area today. Where are the manners, ethics and morals……hmmmmmm they seem to be within this family structure. They are doing better with 18 children than other people do with 1 or 2. The reason (if you did any research like a responsible reporter) they have so many children is because they don't use birth control. They had a miscarriage after being off the pill and believed that the pill caused it. Since they are very religious, they believe if you get pregnant it's God's will to have the baby. So the only way they will stop having children is to stop having sex. I don't see that in the future, the dad is super hot. The Duggar's are a model family as far as I'm concerned (except their no birth control policy).

You did not address any of my valid points on real concerns about population control and the very many socio/economical impacts that there are regarding pregnancies to people who are unable to support their offspring…that is the big picture problem. If you are an intelligent person, you would look at the macro versus micro version of the world and deal with the REAL problem…which is not this family, but families upon families having children that can not be cared for within the progenator's means. If you choose to read this with an open mind, you might find we are working to the same goal. My grandmother always says you get more with honey then vinigar. Live and learn…

Re: jokerface – I'm in my late 40's. I know that there are people who think that I should be over it by now but the fact remains that these types of hurts last a life time. They also affect my kids. Family is so important and when you don't have one your definitely feel left out. My point about this family is that they all seem pretty well adjusted and have good relationships with each other. I think that's a blessing. Having just a few kids doesn't guarantee love or closeness in a family. If these parents can raise loving, responsible, productive adults then they have done a great job. Thank you for your kind words. That doesn't happen often on this site.

To Cavy and MJN: MJN, you say that as long as a family is able to support their own and not affect others, then there is nothing wrong with having endless kids. Your point is taken, it's a good one. What I want to know is how you define "'affecting others". If you are just talking about welfare, then look a little deeper. Each person born is a consumer nonetheless. People consume energy which has to be gathered and release waste which has to be disposed. I really hate that when people suggest "population control", the replies are always "go live to China" or " kill yourself", or "they are not your kids so buck off"…. Geez, people like Cavy and I just want to make sure we have parks to go to, mountains to visit, clean air, and clean water. Environmentalists don't want to take your freedom, they want to make the living standards better for the future. That is the paradox with environmentalists: they get accused of not liking babies when in reality we are working hard against all odds to give them a better future. I am not disgusted by the Duggars, in an ideal world we would all have cooperative, lovingly huge families… but it just isn't sustainable for the world. So to address my initial point, human impact goes beyond the walls on your house.

Hmm. Glad. Did you notice I asked a question? Owning the term dictator is your assumption, not my accusation, although I can see why you feel you would have to defend yourself.
Again, glad, if you put every man woman and child in America, in just the state of Texas, each person would have about one half an acre to themselves. A family of five would have two and a half acres. That would leave the rest of the Good old USofA for you to vacation in, work in, and we could use North Dakota (or better yet, Arkansas) as a dump. I can live and and grow all that I need on half an acre and then find me some meat while on vacation, again, in any other state in the union.
There is not a shortage of space, there is just a lack of comprehension as to how much we really have. Have you ever flown? Your lack of understanding? that points to a public education that too many people think is ineffective. Listening to you and Cavy proves my feeling that public education is very effective for what they teach you.
And thank you for your vigilance in keeping the environment clean. You have been a good partner. But, dont forget, it took wackos like me working with you to do it.
