A sequel to cult film classic Donnie Darko is in the works.
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!
The title of the sequel is S. Darko and it starts shooting on May 18th.
Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Gossip Girls' Chuck Bass!), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball).
The story picks up seven years after the first film (and Donnie's death) when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.
There's no Donnie at all in the new film (sorry Jake Gyllenhaal fans), but there will be meteorites and rabbits.
We really wish they would've left Darko alone.

Donnie Darko was seriously an overrated piece of shit, and its cult pisses me off, so the news that they're going to sell out just brings a smile to my heart.

Hey, nomatter what- we will ALWAYS have the awesome mindfuck that is the ORIGINAL donnie darko. always. any minute now, I can go rent it and watch it, unaltered, and be just as mystified as the first time I saw it.
So, they make a sequel. So what? If you're opposed to the idea, then don't see it. Go rent or buy the original, watch THAT, and have a great time. Making a sequel does not at ALL ruin the original, not in any way, shape or form. They're not RE-MAKING the original, they're just making a second, completely different movie.
I for one am excited for the sequel. If it is even HALF as good as the first one, I'm sure I'll love it.
