Not only does Madonna charge upwards of $300 for the best seats on her tour, but now she wants a piece of the ticket scalpers' pie.
Yup!
Ticket scalpers (or "brokers" as they like to be called) buy up the majority of concert tickets, leaving many die hard fans to turn to other venues to buy their tix.
Now, Madonna is going into bed with the enemy!
Her Madgesty is the first artist to make a deal with StubHub, which is owned by eBay and lets people legally scalp (or "resell") their concert tickets.
M will get a base fee PLUS a cut of all the ticket sales.
So, in theory, the higher U pay for your ticket on StubHub, the more money she makes.
Why would Madonna (or anyone) wanna encourage ticket scalping/reselling????

Sorry, nobody is worth $300. I saw her show last tour and it was AMAZING, but my tix were under $100. Sounds like she doesn't care about her true-fans that don't have $300 to flip at her. It's all about making money, not the fans who actually listen and buy her cds.
I've always been a Madonna fan, since I first heard Holiday in the earky 1980's. Even through the awkward hiccups of Madonna's career. But even though I academically understand the "If you can't beat them, join them" idea, I must say this does seem irrational and unnecesary. You're already rich, Madonna. The brokers should be out of it anyways! They are selling their tickets for profit. This only stops them from making a profit off of her and she's the one doing all the work! Maybe that will help lower the price of the tickets, ever think of that?

Musicians can no longer be guaranteed any kind of money from record sales because of illegal file sharing and downloading, so they are going to make their money any which way they can, which will be through touring and merchandise. You'll see other artists following in her footsteps.

If there is demand for her tickets, the price will go up, period. She should figure out how to auction all of her tickets and not let a single one wind up on stub hub. People who say she should offer tickets cheaper don't seem to understand this. The only thing unfair about madonna's arangement with stub hub is that she doesn't get ALL of the money from ticket sales, merely 10 percent.

Which means any concert, big or small, gets sold out usually in less than ten minutes online!!! Music moguls, unlike the normally warm and generous musicians, sometimes seem to be cold and mercenary. They make exacting plans to get the highest profits, and then often present the plans to the artists in a seemingly palatable way. A little less greed on the one hand and a little more discrimination on the other hand might help to lift the music industry out of the degradation it seems to be falling into.
