Not only does Madonna charge upwards of $300 for the best seats on her tour, but now she wants a piece of the ticket scalpers' pie.
Yup!
Ticket scalpers (or "brokers" as they like to be called) buy up the majority of concert tickets, leaving many die hard fans to turn to other venues to buy their tix.
Now, Madonna is going into bed with the enemy!
Her Madgesty is the first artist to make a deal with StubHub, which is owned by eBay and lets people legally scalp (or "resell") their concert tickets.
M will get a base fee PLUS a cut of all the ticket sales.
So, in theory, the higher U pay for your ticket on StubHub, the more money she makes.
Why would Madonna (or anyone) wanna encourage ticket scalping/reselling????

Go see someone who cares about his fans. A few months ago MIKA sent hot chocolate and donuts out to his fans who were lined up waiting to see him outside because it was cold. He also performed a concert when his stuff got stuck in a snowstorm. He got instruments and put together a set out of things that could be had quickly and gave his fans in Salt Lake City an acoustic show they will never forget. He also talks to fans after his shows…He talked to me for about a half hour! He knows how to treat the people who pay for the music.
I have seen Madonna in concert four times through the course of my work. I have to say that her greed has already started a backlash - during her last tour, where tickets for the London dates were up to $300/seat, she failed to sell any of the dates out! There were tonnes of empty seats and touts were forced to sell the tickets for below face value at the venue (good karma or what).
I have seen several hundred concerts in the last few years and can honestly say Madge's are the most scandallously overpriced of all. She lip synchs, has no great support acts and acts 'mechanical' throughout the whole shebang. I saw Mariah at Madison Square Gardens and though I don't love her music she was an incredible performer with talent that washed-up, bitter old bitch Madonna would die for. By trying to rob her declining fan-base of more money by getting in bed with the scalpers she's on seriously dodgy ground - and will hopefully get her just desserts!!

The only song that she did well in was What it Feels like for a girl. When she played the guitar it was a complete snoozefest. When she sat on a bale of hay (covered in plastic!) being a ticket broker myself…… let me give you all a piece of advice. Do not buy these tickets until the concert is very close. All these soccer moms out there try to buy all these tickets and sell them for a profit. When they are not making money (within the first week that they have the tickets) they panic and try to get anything they possibly can for these tickets. Just hold out. Her concerts are going to bomb for $300 a ticket. Wait & you will get awesome seats for half that price.

I LOVE Madonna, but this is UNREAL. She had the exact same priced for her Re-Invention Tour. Personally I paid the 300.00 price for 2 nites, and did a cheap nite (90.00) for the 3rd. Combo that with t-shirts, tour books ect… I dropped a grand. Too much… fab show, but too much.
Years ago she charge 30.00 odd dollars because she knew her fan base couldn't afford higher. Blond Ambition the top price was well under 100.00. I paid 100.00 for a scalper for 10th row for the Girlie Show.

Alot of bands now save the first rows at shows for members of their fan clubs. That is a good way to keep away the scalpers, not making deals with them! Way to go Madonna with appreciating your fans! It isn't like some of them have stuck with you for over 20 years!
I think its good business. The scalpers would be making a bigger profit off of everyone…at least some of it is going back to Madonna, who deserves to make money off tickets people are willing to buy to see her show.
