Referring to your comment "the fat is depositing in her stomach" due to her diet? She is starving. She looks like she is experiencing ascites in the abdominal area. Everything is shutting down. Starving children all over the world have this appearance..where have you been? Shut the F up. People with your perspectives contribute to people who suffer with this problem everywhere. Amy probably started to do drugs to keep her thin and now Amy has left the building and the drugs will be there until there is nothing left. Amy is gone.
re those who say she has only had a couple of hits in US , educate yourself her album Back to Black has had sales in the millions globally , she does have genuine talent - however it is concerning that even her record company admits that this downward spiral actually is contributing to an increase in sales. For those who say she is white trash her mother is a Pharmacist and she was brought up in a middle class area. How she is now bears no relation to Amy a couple of years ago , this whole madness is drugs related ,

She is a wreck but Back to Black is still one of the best albums released in years. People act like she is the first talented artist to have a drug problem. I would like to see what some of the legends would have looked like if the paps followed them during their worst times. If people are sick of looking at her tell the paps to stop stalking her and taking pictures because they would if their wasn't such a demand for it.

I believe you are probably correct. Kwashiorkor is when you are taking in calories, but not enough protein. So your liver becomes quite large because it can't transport out it's fat and cholesterol (fatty liver) with a protein coat and you get accumulation of fluid in the abdomen (ascites) because the oncotic and hydrostatic pressures in your bloodstream get thrown off and fluid seeps out of the vessels. This happens especially in the abdomen because in other places the lymphatics will transport the fluid back to the heart, but the abdomen is a large cavity and too much fluid can accumulate to be transported back to the liver and so it continues to build up.
So basically, she is just an idiot and isn't eating like a normal person should…but then she isn't normal is she? sigh…

That kind of bloat is most likely her liver. Her skin is looking a little yellowish, too, which is another sign of liver disease. I knew a woman who was a severe chronic alcohol abuser whose liver swelled up like that. She is dead now. Amy - STOP IT!!! Sad sad sad!

If she doesn't die before she gets help ;( Amy Winehouse truely saddens me. Not a lot of people do because your problems are your problems and you need to learn to take care of yourself, but she has so much talent and potential. She's gorgeous too when she has herself done up.
i don't thin it's an eating disorder. that would imply a motive to lose weight. it's just all the coke and crack, it makes you stop eating. so, i wouldn't call it any eating disorder–just malnutrition. (which is just as bad, i'm just saying it's not an eating disorder.)
first off when you do have a drug problem, you don't eat at all or when you do, you throw up. It's not that she has an eating disorder but a big time drug problem…

Re: Amanda – Amanda, you and LesUK have the most sensible comments on this thread. I agree with your assessments. If you aren't in the medical field, you should be. You're at least very educated. I've had lots of friends who were drug users in the 80's who looked exactly like this. Anyone who did heroin, coke or speed had bad hygiene and never craved food unless it was junk food and sweets. They always looked skeletal, had bad teeth, rarely ate, and hung out only with other druggies. They lost their jobs and even their homes, and some died of AIDS.
Ms. Winehouse, poor thing, is going down that road fast. She looked so beautiful only a year and a half ago. I hope she can recover but it has to be her that WANTS to do it.
