Yes…it's another actor morphing into a 'musician'.
Why??????
It didn't work for Scarlett Johansson. It didn't work for Minnie Driver or Kevin Bacon or Billy Bob Thornton or Gina Gershon or….the list goes on and on.

Apparently, Phoenix got the calling after he learned to play the guitar for the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.
Does that mean we can expect to see something from Reese Witherspoon soon?
Phoenix has been working with Britpop star Tim Burgess , the Charlatans frontman.
A release date has not been determined.
For Phoenix's sake, let's hope the album is as good as his acting. But it will probably suck!

his portrayal as johnny cash was amazing. he should have won the oscar. his voice was superb & i listen to the soundtrack all the time. usually i can't bear to listen to cover versions of great classics or even those that revive a role in a musical as i always make a comparison to the original version but joaquin is the exception. perez just throw in the towel relative to your commentary on music & fashion. you don't & will never get it.

His Brother, the late River Phoenix and the family have always been musicians…they used to live in poverty and play guitar and sing for money. River was also in a band called ”Aleka's Attic” along with his sister Rain Phoenix(”O”, Hitch) so it's no surprise Joaquin wants to record songs…doesn't mean he's trying to go mainstream and sell 3 million copies…it's not even about that. I think his music will send a different message and may not be for everyone. Look at Jamie Foxx…actor turn musician.

ACTUALLY PEREZ!!!!!!!! FYI, Joaquin sang all the songs in 'Walk the Line', which is yet another reason why people didn't understand his snub over Philip Seymour Hoffman for playing Truman Copote. I actually like Joaquin's voice better than-dare I say it?!!!-Johnny Cash's; not that JC was known for having the best quality of a singing voice! It was his style, swagger, persona, and uniqueness (of voice and altogether sound) that caught on back then. So you need to do a little more research on this one–not everyone who acts, necessarily cannot sing and vice versa. Quit being so effing critical, esp when you're not even doing responsible journalistic work!

I've read people saying he was in a band with River- this is not true. Although all the Phoenix siblings were brought up singing and dancing for their supper on the streets of south america and then LA, Joaquin was never in a band. River and Rain had their band. However, Joaquin has always been around music (River had a recording studio in their house) so it doesnt surprise me that he's taken to guitar and songwirting. Also wouldnt surprise me if he turns out to be good at it- River was a kick ass guitarist and songwriter and was respected for it within the music scene (Micheal Stipe of REM now owns River's material). *His* album hasnt seen the light of day yet though, think id rather hear River's than Joaquins…
