I think that this is a great example of how out of touch Perez is regarding the business aspect of things. As someone who has followed industry charts for many years, I already knew that Madonna was going to have a bit of a drop off in the second week in America. I believe that Madonna was number one in 27 countries while Mariah was number one in about 3. Mariah is not the international superstar that Madonna clearly is. Madonna outranks Mariah in sales and in touring.

Who cares about international sales? The US is where the fame and money is at. Why do you think everyone comes to America? To become famous and make money……..Mariah is American. I am afraid to tell all the Madonna fans you are deluded! Madonna only got to number 1 in all these countries because her record company send thousands of copies out to stores to make the charts for the first week. I know this because i have researched music charts in several countries. Madonna album was certified Gold on the 1st week of release here in Oz but it only sold 14387copies and to achieve Gold it is supposed to be 35000. Madonnas album dropped from Number 1 in most of these countries within 1 week. Mariah worldwide still sells alot but her record company does not send as many out as she is not as marketable but when it comes down to the nitty gritty of it all Mariah is not far behind at all through out the rest of the world. So Mariah is really the Queen and Madonna fans can say what they want but facts are facts.
