Simons face said it all. Brilliant. No talent, ugly, bad voice, cocky, no fashion, upstaged (vocally, performance, look, outfit) by backup singers. Send her back to the trailer park.
Oh yeah, and wasn't she fired from the Color Purple? Made it seem like the run had ended.

i must have rewound and watched simons expression about ten times, it was the best thing i've seen on ai for ages. i had to supress my laughing so people at work wouldn't ask what was so funny…

I could not understand a word she was "singing". Simon's face was priceless and when Ryan was talking to her you could tell he was holding back an insult. Whats with the hair? I don't think they can have that on Broadway or whatever she was doing before.

She tried too hard. She felt like she had something to prove, but took it to the extreme - with a luke warm song. If you take a step back (and be fair people, geez) then you can see the girl has talent. I swear - it's f'ing hilarious to read the arm chair critics on this site. Because, you KNOW, all these haters can sing-perform-dance.
If I recall correctly, Simon loved Fantasia. I was never into her. I actually thought Latoya London was the best that year. Tonight, she was ghetto fabulous. It was the shot of energy that Idol needed. The Simon's face was amazing!

I Love Fantasia but she really needs to get some better people around her. Her look hasn't been decent since being on American idol. WTF is going on with her hair. uhm…i LOVED her performance. her voice kinda annoys me after like 5 seconds…otherwise she was on key while dancin ALL over the place and still belted it out. Then in the end when she spoke so calmly…she's a pro! Simon's look was hilarious…but I think he actually enjoyed it. I know Randy and Paula did.

Exactly. High energy. A little Labelle, a little MC Hammer. The main thing was she had passion and she owned that stage. The fashion and the enunciation are not nearly as important as people are making it, in my opinion. American Idol is about pleasing people and technical execution. Rock music (including soul) is about passion, including rowdiness, flash and rebellion.

I admit…when she came out with that hair I got a little scared. She did an awesome job…an awesome LIVE performance, something that most singers can't do nowadays with your Miley Cyruses and Ashlee Simpsons. Good for Fantasia!
