For those people that say marrige is between a man and a women, that is your opinion but it also makes it a religious institution and the American government is not supposed to support any religion.
Enjoy it while it lasts, because this will go to the U.S. Supreme Court, which historically has struck down the right of gays to marry. I hope the proponents are up to this fight. Anyone who has been told, for whatever reason, "you'll never marry" knows how much it hurts. If two people truly wish to spend the rest of their lives together and have that union recognized by the law of the land, we gain nothing to impede them.

I am a straight, mother of two and grandmother of two and I am so proud to be a Californian today. This is so wonderful. But the fight isn't over. We must stop the hate groups efforts to change the constitution regarding this matter. Go California. I am so proud of you. Equality belongs to everyone. God created different. People are the ones who can't seem to reconcile themselves to that.
How is this equality? Gays already had the same rights as breeders - you can marry someone of the opposite sex. Nice to see that this generation of whiners is progressing along so well. I can't wait to see how much more fucked up this country gets.

see the problem is not so much gay marriage, as the wording used. marriage is traditional a union of two people in the eyes of god, the state and the people. since we all know homosexuality is not permitted in any christian faith (tolerated in some but, not welcomed by any means), the main groups speaking out against gay marriage are the religious groups. however, the state should recognize any union between two people. if gay people (no insult intended) stop calling it marriage, and push for the 'civil union' status (which is what many really want i think) they might see a bloom of support across the board, even from straight christian males like me, who really just want everyone to live and let live.

I love this site, but this is unbelievable, it is not natural, was not intended to be that way, and actually very gross! This is totally awesome!!! I, personally, have never understood why gay marriage is even an issue in the first place. But, I guess i am one of few who were fortunate enough to have parents that were very open minded, and made it an absolute priority to raise their children to also be openminded. My brother is gay, and nothing would make me happier than to see him have the same rights as I do as a straight woman! Congrats!!

I didn't want to acknowledge him for several years and all I accomplished was to separate myself from a terrific guy and almost I almost lost out completely. Only a man and a woman should use the term MARRIAGE. It doesn't mean gays can't form a civil union (since most churches don't marry homosexuals anyway). I think thats great. However, I have a problem gays and lesbians using the "marriage" to define their unions. Marriage is between a man and a woman - Not between a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Call it a partnership or whatever , but dont call it marriage.
