Your Career Is In Trouble When…

Filed under: Wilmer Valderrama > Z List

wenn1844318.jpg

We really haven't heard much from Wilmer Valderrama these days.

And that's probably because he isn't doing much!

Well, he is doing "something" later this month.

Valderrama will be hosting an event to celebrate (Ricky Ricardo) Desi Arnaz's contributions to the world of entertainment.

The event, "A Tribute to Desi Arnaz: An Evening With Wilmer Valderrama" will take place on Saturday, May 24th in Jamestown, NY.

Valderrama will be headlining the Lucy-Desi Days 2008 which takes place from May 23-25.

Wonder how much he's getting paid???? $300? $500???

According to the press release, Wilmer "will share how Desi personally inspired his career and salute the man that paved the way for other Hispanic actors in America. With a collection of rarely seen film clips of Desi's career, this will be a night not to miss! The audience will also enjoy a question and answer session."

Wonder what type of questions Wilmer will get. If any.

And for the lucky fans out there, after the event, guests will have the opportunity to meet Wilmer at an after-party. The food will be catered by a Mexican taco place.

What, they couldn't even get Cuban food in honor of Arnaz?

Shame!

Actually you are wrong it was Desi…Look it up. He was a very, very smart man in the showbiz biz. He was the brains and Lucy was the talent. She has said that in countless interviews in the past. I am a I Love Lucy fan and I actually think Desi was a great comic talent too . So basically Perez shut the fuck up this would be a honor for anyone to do. Desi was part of TV history and will forever be love.

He's also doing the movie version of CHiPs and has a film called Days Of Wrath in post-prod right now. And he's still into the whole "celebrity who owns a bar/restaurant" bit — the latest in Vegas with Nick Lachey & Nicky Hilton at the Luxor. His career is just fine dumbass.

  22. becky says – reply to this

    122

Desy Arnaz–perfect example of just being yourself and bringing honor to your profession, yourself. A man with an accent who was accepted and loved, admired, without the whining, the drama, the why me, the "I'm being discriminated against," all the crap that goes on today at the drop of a hat. We simply loved his shows, his talent; there was ribbing about the way he pronounced some things, and it was taken in stride, it was funny, loving. Boy, how others should learn from him. People have gone to crap.

  23. becky says – reply to this

    123

Perez, time to tone down on your disappointment that YOU weren't asked to host the Desi show! It's not all about you! Nothing wrong with Valderrama! He's a hard-working, nice young man. I love him and wish him the BEST!

  24. Towney says – reply to this

    124

This is the most publicity our town has gotten since someone remember that Lucy grew up in Jamestown when she died. Actually it was Celeron but most people who live here like to ignore that fact.

  25. madmax says – reply to this

    125

Fez, I mean Wilmer, will show back up at some point. The nerd on a high school show is always stuck to that character the longest. He was damn good in Fast Food Nation. Let That 70s Show get to where it isn't on twenty channels and he'll find some roles.

  26. roger says – reply to this

    130

This is what happens when you have culturally ignorant ppl running the show. Desi Arnaz doesn't mix with MEXICAN. He was Cuban, and I say they should have tons of BACARDI flowing since he drank alot as well. HELLO. Who were the event planners for this one.

  31. Class says – reply to this

    131

I live near this town Perez. There is no place to purchase Cuban food. No one in the area would even know what Cuban food was. You have to remember we are in the conservative North East and that the world doesn't revolve around you.

  32. gabs says – reply to this

    132

i think he is doing voice over work for the cartoon "handy manny" on the disney channel. he's the lead character–a handy man.

  33. Liz says – reply to this

    133

I'm from Jamestown, NY and I can say that what is known as "Lucy Fest" is a disgusting excuse for the scum of the town to come out and eat funnel cake, ride carnival rides that look like they are about to rust over in shame, and for the actual people who liked the two to dress up like them and are appauled at what a disgusting place Jamestown really is. Not to talk smack about the place that I'm from but, MY GOD Perez, you just put us on the map.

  34. jacs says – reply to this

    134

Okay…this cracks me up for several reasons. I work in Jamestown, NY. This is a small town that revels in these summer events. Lucy-Desi days are a big deal to honor their hometown gal. Wilmer showing up in town will probably have little effect or impact on the event, but it is nice of him to do it so cut him some slack. As for ripping apart the culinary options of Jamestown, this part is true. I have a feeling Taco Hut doing the catering has little to do with it being "Mexican" food and more to do with the fact that it is one of about three places to eat in downtown Jamestown. Oh Perez readers…if you only knew.

  35. NO ONE says – reply to this

Why is it a shame Perez? If it wasn't for Desi Arnez you wouldn't have the opportunity that has been given to you.

Desi Arnez was a pioneer for Hispanic people, you out of anyone should acknowledge and respect that…IDIOT…

Good for Wilmer, he is proud of his heritage and is showing his support.

Fez is the voice of my daughters favorite cartoon Handy Manny, that's worth something.

  49. THE OBSERVER says – reply to this

    149

I've always had a crush on Wilmer, but like a lot of Latinos, his youth and cuteness have rapidly morphed into just another stereotype for some, But I think Wilmer should pursue more serious roles to gain validity. I wish him well. Desilu was created and run by Desi and Lucy (Lucille Ball) and revolutionized t.v. by inventing, basically, the "rerun". Their programs were taped and produced. I thinks it's a nobel thing Wilmer is presenting because Desi and Wilmer both owe their careers to T.V. fame, they have common roots.

  50. paula says – reply to this

    150

you might now hear a lot from wilmer but he is keeping busy and staying out of trouble unlike the rest of these so called "celebrities". he has a cartoon show handy manny that he does the voice for and he is amazing.

What career? The guy is lucky, that's all. No one's gonna confuse him with Gael Bernal Garcia, Jesse Borrego or any other talented actor. He has yet to prove himself.

As a western New York native, I am AMAZED that they even found a mexican restaurant to cater. (that isn't Taco Bell) They DEFINATELY don't have a Cuban restaurant in Jamestown New York!

I would love to see how many people would turn up to a tribute to Perez!!! His career is not hurting he has enouph money now to just chill if that's what he chooses to do and I believe he is part owner in a successful restaurant. He just happens to be a very big fan of Desi and is honored to host such an event. Perez stop being so bitter! It seems like you are getting meaner everytime I read something that you write! Jealous Much???!!!

  55. kristin says – reply to this

    155

Maybe he's not so obvious as he was in "that 70's Show", but this dude is laughing all the way to the bank as the voice of "Handy Manny", as anyone with kids knows. (A great respite from Bob the Builder, I must add, as someone with children.)

  56. Amanda says – reply to this

    156

I am from jamestown! This is hysterical. Why anyone would want to come here is beyond me. Wilmer with the 3rd street cowboy, now that's a photo op.

  57. Sam Kunz says – reply to this

    157

Desi Arnez was a multi-Talented actor, composer and musician….Wilmer Valderamma…is just a mexican who wishes he could at least act. He tried to kiss black ass and be on "yo Mamma". But even they knew he was phony. Now he is trying this? Wilmer.. Give it up dude. YOU ARE DONE.

  58. Anna says – reply to this

    158

    Re: Do It.
Actually in Jamestown, Taco Hut and La Herradura are the only remote Hispanic restaurants in the area. I know it's sad, Jamestown isn't that big of a place either.
