Speaking Out On Equality

The California Supreme Court took a stance for equality on Thursday.
By overturning the archaic ban on gay marriage, the judges reaffirmed their belief that all residents of this great state should be treated the same under the law.
Now, a few prominent members of the LGBT community are speaking out to The Advocate about this historic day!
Ellen DeGeneres:
"I’m thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote.

Im glad to hear that they overturned it that just means that some ppl are understanding that same sex marriages are just as important as heterosexual marriages. Im gay myself and I wish to get married someday and when that time comes I hope that the world has changed and accepts homosexuals because there is nothing wrong with us we love just like straight people do and if straight people cant deal with that then tough because times are changing and if you dont catch up then you will be left behind. well, all i can say is that i am not one to judge anyone on their beliefs or lifestyle practices. i am a believer of Christianity though and i do have my beliefs on the subject of gay "marriage", but I am free to have and express these beliefs just as all of you do. if two homosexual people want to have a ceremony to say they're "married" then that's their perrogative…although i would never use my vote to support the act; but, it is very clear in my religion that homosexual marriage is not true marriage in God's eyes, and that's just the way it is. i am glad so many people are happy with this result in california, but i am disappointed in the result, and I'm sure you all will have something to say about it, but those are my opinions.
It is sad that people in love would have to wait for people with predjudice to tell you when you could be acknoleged as a legal couple but how happy a day when gays lesbians bisexuals and transgendered people can live with the same rights as any other human being….

I cried when I first found out hah. I don't live in California but I've planned on moving there sense I was in the 5th grade. I'm only 16 and honestly I hated the thought of knowing that I would never be able to marry the person I loved, but now there's hope and it makes me feel a lot better about being gay. Maybe America isn't as bad as I thought it was.

Based on this belief system if a guy or a chick for that matter wants to marry their dog, horse or cat because they are in love with it then they should have the same rights as homo's and lezbo's because it's the right thing to do.
I recently heard that the sanctity of marriage is being threatened and tossed around by men and women who are getting married just for the fun of it, and who are not taking marriage seriously at all. Gay people arent ruining marriage! People who get married for ALLLL the wrong reasons are ruining marriage. Gay people are getting the bad end of the deal because they could truly, honestly love their partner, and cant ever make it official, or get the benefits if something happens to the other, etc.
Plain and simple, you cant help who you fall in love with. Regardless if you fall in love with a man or a woman, and you are of either sex, love is love. It doesnt make a difference in the world if you fall in love with someone with brown hair, black hair, green eyes, one leg, four fingers or anything like that, and it doesnt matter if you fall in love with someone who has the same anatomy as you. Nobody is going to be in that relationship except the two people IN THAT RELATIONSHIP, so everyone who has a problem with that needs to focus on their own lives.

I am reading alot of very mean, hateful things about homosexuals, and I feel terrible that gay people are being judged like this…and I just finished writing my blog about how I DON'T support gay marriage! lol I also don't support gay bashing though, and the more I read the worse I'm feeling. What gets me is in these same blogs, people condemn homosexuals but yet profess their Christianity. Yes, it says in the Bible that homosexuality is a sin, but it also says that premarital sex is a sin, and I'm definitely guilty of that! Lust is a sin, envy is a sin, nobody is perfect. My point is that even if you disagree with homosexuality, you shouldn't be mean, judge or condemn people for their choices or lifestyles. Let God be the judge.
So, as John Lennon would say "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality." And I think its wonderful that people arent sitting back and letting other people dictate to them what is right and wrong when it comes to loving somebody. I'm behind them all the way because I know that when it comes time for me to fight for something I believe in, I want true believers behind me too.

I sincerely hope and pray that gays will stop adopting innocent children and having them through artificial means. It is cruel to subject an innocent child into the gay lifestyle. I work in the foster care and adoption arena, and it is truly sad to have to personally counsel children who are parented by gays. Most of the foster/adopted children alreadu have horrendous issues as is, and as much as gays think they are helping and giving back to society, they are only making these kids' lives worse. There is no way possible to sheild a child from the undeniable taunting and isolalation they will receive as a result of having gay parents. It is extremely selfish of gays to do this to an inncent child. Don't subject them to your lifestyle because of your selfish reasonings. If God intended for you to be parents, he would have made it possible for you to do it in the natural way. Obviously, he had no intention of your being allowed this privelege so stop trying to go around His laws. He will not stand for this much longer- the babies are HIS creations, not yours. I am indeed happy to hear that you are one of the few children of such a union that was spared the horrendous emabarrasment, isolation, low self-esteem and heartache of being reared by gay parents. But the fact is a MAJORITY of children of gays do not share your view. To them there is nothing cool about having to explain to friends, classmates and their parents the type of home life they exist in. Face the facts: the majority of children of this union are scarred terribly in childhood and can only resolve these issues through years of counseling and much forgiveness of their parents. They often keep this a secret in their young adult years and have to endure a lot of soul searching and turmoil in order to reconcile with their parents. I can't tell you how many married young or had children young in an attempt to escape their childhood and "do things the right way." These ARE the facts. I know too, because i am also in the field of child psychology.

What's sad is that children even at a young age are so horrible to others. Maybe their parents should have brought them up to not hate. How do the children coming from abusive homes feel? How about the children coming from a home where their parents are drug dealers? I bet they enjoy telling their friends about these problems they face at home! Go back to school; get a degree in politics, then change what you feel is wrong with the world. Human beings who abuse others for being gay or having a gay friend or relative are the ones who need a psych evaluation.

Congrats US! In about a month Norway will finally allow gay marriage. What kind of secular state can not allow it? The only reason we don't allow gay marriage, is because religion prohibited it. And what are we? Iran?

Re: Allison – It was 4 out of 7 judges who ruled. This will get overturned by the voters in November as it did a few years ago by Prop 22. Don't get too excited young dumb one. Since you were probably too young at the time 62% of the voters in California said no to gay marriage with Proposition 22. Nothing's changed, I can guarentee.
Two consentig adults could be grandpa and grandaughter, sister and sister or brother and sister!!! This is a step in the wrong direction—-marriage is meant for one man and one woman. There are other options for people of the same sex who want a commitment. People will be marrying ducks next
