Speaking Out On Equality

The California Supreme Court took a stance for equality on Thursday.
By overturning the archaic ban on gay marriage, the judges reaffirmed their belief that all residents of this great state should be treated the same under the law.
Now, a few prominent members of the LGBT community are speaking out to The Advocate about this historic day!
Ellen DeGeneres:
"I’m thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote.

Besides, a gay couple can easily adopt children, giving them a safe home and an environment where they can be free from the abuse and/or neglect they may have recieved from their birth parents or whoever. To me, adopting a child is more noble than having a slew of your own, considering our world has become over-populated enough. Chad Allen (via Advocate.com): I have to say I was completely shocked at the level of emotion of my own reaction. It's not that I didn't care, it's just that I didn't know that I cared that much. But when I found out about it, I was so full of joy and happiness and I was really emotional. I think that just relays the sense that when you are denied something, at least for myself, I tend to try and disregard its importance. And when all of a sudden it happened, I realized there was a part of me that wanted it so desperately.
I think it's of massive importance for our self-esteem and the personal level of acceptance that we all struggle for as gay and lesbian people, for us to simply know that this part of our dreams is even capable of coming true.
I'm thinking about getting married. I am in love with my partner, deeply madly in love with him, and though I am not ready to propose yet, it is in there. I have always said that I wasn't going to do it until I could do it legally, and now that we can and it's real, there is even a little bit of pressure now, like "I can't use that excuse anymore." It's a kind of pressure that, say, my sister has always had going into a relationship, wondering if this is the one and what about popping the question, and when do you do it and how do you know. But I have lived in ignorance of that until today.
I love Marc Jacobs as a designer, but I wouldn't put him out there as the poster boy for gay marriage. From what I hear in your column he gets around. Gay marriage is just wrong. It was not meant to be.

I don't know whether being gay is "right" or "wrong" in general or in God's eyes…. but the facts are what they are, another person's personal beliefs on this should not affect another's right to live as they choose in this manner. If gays want to get married let them! That is the glory of freedom. Especially today where it is not sooooo outrageous and unexceptable to be gay or see gay individuals walking out in public hand in hand. Gays adopt children and raise families together… lets progress and allow them the glory of marriage and possibly the misery of divorce! The sole purpose of marriage is to procreate, preferably with someone you love. And although homosexuals may have found their partners, nothing they will ever do will enable them to have children together. Being gay is not really a sin in itself, and no one can really stop them from expressing their affections. This decision has nothing to do with equal rights. It is all about activist judges changing the constitution from the bench. I understand that enough signatures have been obtained to put this on the November ballot in order to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage. The court overstepped its bounds against the will of the people.
BTW, I noticed a lot of left wing liberals on this site accusing conservatives of being judgemental. Personally I have noticed that the vast majority of comments that are judgemental are from the left wing liberal crowd. Unfortunately, they don' t recognize that.

If I am correct, the majority of the people in CA voted against this. It is sad that the courts have decided to change the definition of marriage. So now, marriage is defined as a union between, a man and woman, a woman and a woman, or a man and a man. Why not a man and two women, or two women and a man, or maybe a man and a donkey and a cat…..
