Sorry to be a bummer but when i picture ellen having any kind of sex i want to gag. She is the least sexy person in popular culture in my opinion. Even KDlang had a smoky sexuality that allowed u to see her femininity. I am a catholic and my religion does not support gay marriage. But, I also don't support my religions view on priests not being able to marry and have children. I also am ashamed that priests in my faith molested children.
I don't have a problem with gays marrying, as I am saddened that they don't receive the same benefits (i.e. health, insurance) that heterosexuals do. But, I do have a problem with radical homosexuals as I do with any radical whether it be religious, political, etc. I don't condone homosexuality, but am tolerant as long as you don't shove it and any agenda you may have in my face or the face of my children.

I am soooo thrilled for Ellen and Portia. I'm a straight woman but I'm for equal rights *my uncle is gay*. Of course here in Ontario gays have been able to get married for a while now. I see NOTHING wrong with it.
I am sooo happy for them. It has been ridiculous these rules and laws against gay marriage. Everyone deserves the right to marry their love, regardless of their choice of who to love. I got teary eyed just imagining what it must be like to finally have that right. Good for you Ellen and Portia!

Many Christians protest that gays should not be married because God doesn't recognize the union as marriage. This is true BUT the Bible also says that one can only remarry after divorce if their spouse committed adultery. Once the cheater is divorced he/she can not remarry. If the cheater does remarry than he/she and the new spouse are both committing adultery. If you protest one, than you have to protest both types of marriages.

Gays can't legally get married, so give it a rest. Just like Rosie's little ceremony, this one too will be nulled and void. Why can't you gays just be happy that most people are in support of you having recognized union ceremonies. in Germany it s called not marriage but legally is termed as "civil union" if the persons marrying are of the same sex.
Why should a homosexual not be able to tell anybody that he wants to spend the rest of a life with an other person? And share duties and rights as well! It affects, here in Germany, for example the right to get information on medical finddings if your loved one is hospitalozed, the right to be at his side when he s dying, to be able to appoint him/her as heir without having to pay more taxes than any other MARRIED couple, a.s.o.
And on the other hand, you have the obligation to stnd in financially for your partner if a "civil union" has been registered with him/her. For example, if he/she loses her job, YOUR income will be used when deciding how much, if any, social welfare is paid to him/her or whether YOU have to pay his rent/food etc….
I do not understand ( I myself am NOT gaqy/les!) why some here are annoyed about same-sex marriages. I mean in WHAT WAY does it impair YOUR life?!

Interracial marriage was legal in many Southern states until 1967 based on the traditional definition of marriage (white man and white woman). Pick up a history book. And it IS about civil liberties: If this term of marriage is used in a legal context, how is it NOT about civil liberties? And it is about rights-the term marriage in the traditional sense (ie Church) is based on pro-creation. So if people don't have children, does this mean that they shouldn't have a legal marriage, and instead should be labelled as being in a civil union? Why is it the government's job to police who marries whom? And I didn't miss your point that it's about the definition of marriage: What I'm saying is that it's a definition over 400 years old. While I and others (as you can see from the posts) disagree completely with what you're saying, I respect your ideas but think that you're comepletely off-base in terms of the idea that civil union in the US is comparable to marriage, and that gay people should just be satisfied with what they've been given, as opposed to what they have the right to as US citizens.

I never really believed in gay marriage before, but after seeing the pure joy on their faces (especially Portia's) I cannot really stand against it. I know that it is not for me, and I know that most Christian faiths frown on it, but how can something that makes people dedicate their lives to one another be all bad?
I'm all for gay rights, and I think all of the USA should allow gay marriages. What is baffling about this California rulling ( and no one is mentioning here) is that it was passed by judges after it was voted down by the people of Cali. Kinda scary that the votes of the people were pushed aside. But congrats to Ellen and Portia- hurry before they shoot this law down!

I have no problem with a state sanctioned civil union between two couples of the same sex. However, the language, circumstances, and rules of a traditional wedding should be reserved for a couple of the opposite sex, a couple that might also procreate thus adding to the tax base.
I also have a problem with talk show hosts who use their programs for self-aggrandizement, and to propagate their own agenda. Yes, I'm talking about Oprah too, whose program I also avoid like the plague.
