i actually like it!
she's a not very impressive singer (could be A LOT worse) but yea this song is really VERY catchy!
It is pretty bad. Yes she can sing, but not well. And that may have been a live performance but you can hear that they have done some touch up work to it after. Her vocals have been pitch corrected. on the actual recordings the producer has pulled her vocals so low to hide how bad it really is, and again her vocals have been pitched. Tom Waits must be laughing.
It's a very tricky, because her live singing sessions are what will sell her album. I've already heard it and the sound engineers totally ruined her voice by hiding it under the music.
It sounds bad on the CD. But this session and the live performance at Sirius were both really good - well done, Scarlett!
I like it. It sounds like good dirty jazz and her voice is perfect for that.
Although the song itself sounds like an old hymn to god from Little house on the praire, or something.

Def. not as shiteous as I thought it would be, but her stage presence leaves something to be missed. As well as the fact that she keeps time with her arm making her look like an ms patient. Tap your foot like everyone else ok? Rocking band though.
Not only is she borderline tonedeaf, watch her hand toward the end as she tries to keep the beat. I don't think she even knows what time the song is in.
I think Scarlett should stick to her strong suit: acting.

Judging by the comments on here, it just goes to show how popular opinion generally sucks. I wanted to hate Ms. Johanssen's efforts, however, found myself happily surprised. Her voice is soulful, deep and expressive… along the lines of Katrina Ford of Celebration and Nico. Two AWESOME female vocalists I'm positive most of the kretins on this site have never heard of.

Well I actually admire her for doing this, if I had the chance to sing I would go for it. She took a shot at it. . . its ok to try something different. Her voice is not as horrible, unlike other people Im not going to hate on scarlet she sounds decent she just needs more practice thats all her voice is very unique though…love it

The musicians are very good too. I LOVE the eclectic look of the variety of each one and their facial expressions are similiar to hers which is appropriately subdued.
This is a GREAT video.
It makes me feel isolated reading the negative comments here: I'm not mainstream and make my living from color and form but it is a lonely venture. Putting your creations out there is a very scary process and one suffers from stage fright each time anyone sees a creation made from the hands and heart whether for a commercial client or not.
Scarlett J. is an artist and deserves respect for making this album.
I think it's important to remember that she is covering Tom Waits songs, and by traditional standards, he does not have a great singing voice.
Also, David Bowie sang back up on this album. I can't argue with Bowie.
