Thery're gonna have to work harder next season!
According to the Wall Street Journal, the home of Gossip Girl, the CW network is tanking.
The CBS/Time Warner co-venture lost 28% of its target audience of 18 to 34 year olds so far this season.
And, its ratings during this month's "sweeps" period — the all-important measure upon which future advertising rates are set — are down about 22%.
According to an insider, if things don't turn around dramatically one of the big partners is going to walk away.
The WSJ also points out that part of CW's problem is that the demo its targeting spends a lot of its leisure time on the internet. Good for us!
And, the Writer's Strike probably hastened the departure of the demo from traditional TV to the net.

I agree with the people clamoring for better online viewability. It's how I watch a lot of shows. It's just easier than paying for cable…i'm cheap. I am also a busy person. Having things online makes sense.
They shouldn't have moved the day/time slot…that fucked it all up for me. They also pissed off a lot of people by not airing the episodes online anymore. The message for them should be clear…if you screw with something that works, our generation will find something else to keep us occupied.
I think that it would be a WONDERFUL idea to bring moonlight to the CW. It would certainly boost their quota of how many people are watching! Please pass this along to TPTB at CW. We the moonlight fans will go wherever it lands!
How about this? Start making a few shows for adults and not just teenagers. You don't have to be 18 to be attractive, interesting, and facinating.
Supernatural rules, and Smallville is o.k., but the rest doesn't interest me.
Put it back online and stream it internationally!!! Then, rate that. I'm from singapore and me and my friends are crazy over the show!

What don't you people understand? They're not airing episodes online anymore because nobody is tuning into the channel to watch. They need advertising to keep the show going on the network. It's probably ’cause they changed the time hella early. If they played it like at Nine 'O Clock again I'd actually watch it again.
come out with the DVD box set so people can get all caught up and then promote big time for next season. the audience will have grown once people get a chance to get caught up and watch over the summer. But if next season is not amazing then there is no saving it…

I almost had a breakdown when I found out they weren't putting the episodes online anymore. But then I realized it doesn't matter if the CW doesn't post them, someone in Japan always will. So their strategy of trying to reclaim their demo by forcing us to watch it on TV is useless.
They absolutely need to count people watching online.

I think gossip girl has lots of fans, but its hard to catch the episodes, so people USED to catch them online. All I can say is that the cw better keep gossip girl, or else that network will die out fast, because more than likely mtv or vh1 would pick up top model and cw would have nothing!

they should have over on canada again that way people dont have to go online.. and they should have some similarities towards the book. I understand they have to make some changes so that it's intersesting but it's just starting to turn it into the oc.

That's a bit of an exaggeration don't you think? Have you even checked the ratings? Yes, they may be somewhat inconsistent, but the majority of episodes are always around the same realm of viewers.
The media seems to be eating the show up.
The fans love it. And they have a wide range of viewers.
And even if that weren't the case- WHAT THE FUCK WOULD THEY PUT ON TO REPLACE IT?! GG is the pretty much the ONLY show that the CW has created that has done even marginally well.
So them canceling it is basically a bunch of bullshit. And that network cannot afford to piss off its audience.

I'm from Britain and sadly I can't get the CW Network over here.. I can't even watch their shows on their official website as they're regionally coded so that only those within the US can watch them.. Therefore my friends and I watch all the CW shows online via sites like sidereel.com
If only they could see their online demographic they'd understand that there is NO way they are failing… I watch a majority of the CW's shows and I only wish I could watch them properly and in better quality, without having to resort to rubbish pastes of them which aren't uploaded till several days after the show and by that point somewhere online I've accidentally found out what happened.
If the CW could make their online videos of their TV shows more accessible then they'd receive massive hits from other people who just don't watch TV anymore and people in foreign countries who simply can't stand the two seasons behind episodes currently playing on their local stations.

Gossip Girl, The Hills, bullshit, bullshit, etc etc.. stupid shows with amateur actors catering to stupid viewers. TV sucks so bad.. it's all the same old shit, over and over… I hope that the industry continues on its downward spiral. Everyone in the TV industry is overpaid and bitter. People treat each other like shit because they were treated like shit when they started out. "indie" film is no better. Have you ever been to Sundance? Art? crap is more like it. If the CW picked up Moonlight, which supposedly is being shopped to them right now, they'd be good to go. The crazy fans will follow this show wherever it goes.
OMFG GG is awesome, i live in australia and we don't get it til heaps later but everyone watches it either by downloading or on those feebies wedsites. I thought it had heaps of downloads on iTunes too. CW sucks they have gotten rid of all the trashy teenage high school shows. remember how good the days of the OC(i thought it would last forever), gilmore girls, veronica mars, dawsons creek etc were. BRING BACK MORE TRASHY HIGH SCHOOL SHOWS. I'm sooo sick of like reality tv and all that other trash on tv also i want more sitcoms like friends and not shithouse ones like that new one with david spade in it either.

They better figure something out. It's bad enough I had to pray to everything there is for Supernatural to come back for another season, but if I have to lose both Supernatural and One Tree Hill I'm definitely showing up and banging down a few of the executives doors. Damn people don't know how to stop themselves from ruining a good thing when they've got it.

I love Gossip Girl but didn't know when it was back on so I missed the first few episodes. I don't want to start watching it in the middle of the season without knowing what happened and the CW doesn't put the episodes online. Everyone I know either catches up with shows online or only watches them online, so that could be a big part of their downfall. Get it back online!
I don't watch anymore cause they took it offline. That's where most people watched—on their own time, and legally streaming off the CW site. Anyways, I'm an expat where there is no CW, and can only watch most of my American shows online.

Well, one major reason is because it keeps canceling all the "black" shows. Not everybody ants to sit and watch a bunch of rich slutty white teens….
I don't understand then why the CW doesn't snatch up Moonlight. It has a core and consistent audience of close to 8 million viewers, dwarfing any other show they have. If it is moved from the deadly night of Friday to a more productive Sunday, it will most definitely expand its viewership exponentially! We are a very committed fan base and will follow the show anywhere. But they better hurry, because Moonlight without Alex, Sophia, and Jason, the fantastic actors that play the main characters, would not be the same. These talented actors will be picked up by networks with more foresight soon, and 2 of the actors are foreigners. Sophia may already be back in London, and Alex could go home to Australia! Wake up and receive this gift CW before it is too late!

The story is getting stupid and lame. I just don't see why Serena is attracted to Dan the boy scout. Dan the character has no personality but acts like a square. He is no fun. It's kind of unrealistic that a rich pretty girl like Serena who has plenty of options chooses Dan. It's not like Dan is talented or what. He is just one of those typical kids who think they know all about art and music in high school but they can't produce anything decent. People who can't do talk/criticize.

Yeah, CW needs to pick up Moonlight, which would bring MILLIONS of people to the CW. Currently I don't watch the CW and am furious that CBS cancelled it, so you better believe I'd watch Moonlight wherever it went. It won a People's Choice Award for crying out loud!!
The Georgina storyline is really not good. People don't like watching blackmail story lines that span long time periods… look back at other shows. It's not dramatic, it's not interesting, it is not enjoyable to watch. The CW needs to pay more attention to what their viewers are thinking. Also, it would probably help if they stopped moving shows to terrible time slots and failing to advertise the new times. If people don't know when it's on, they can't watch it!

I don't qualify as "young" except at heart, but perhaps the network should stop trying to "think like a 18-34 year old" and look at what they are viewing and blogging on line.
As for recommendations? I would HIGHLY recommend they pick up Moonlight for next season. If the blogs and message boards for this program are only half accurate, its viewers are in the demographic they desire. They are passionate fans who would follow the show there. And they are active fans that don't mind letting the advertisers know what they are watching.
I luv this show but my friend has DirectTv and apparently, DirectTv doesn't get the CW soooo, they should try to expand there I guess. Also, the CW doesn't really have any "smart" shows (i.e. the office) they should also try more of those. That's all I got
The problem with the CW is they don't know what they are doing!! Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Reaper and Gossip Girl are/were good shows with potential but they don't seem to know how to advertise their shows. The other problem they have is selling these shows overseas. I live in Australia and Gossip Girl I think is on Foxtel which is kind of like cable (I think anyway) but a tonne of the shit shows you are getting are repeats. There is no way we would get Foxtel just to watch a couple of shows I can download.
Also if they plan to stream online please make it for not just U.S. People in other countries like TV too you know.

I'll gladly add to the suggestions that they pick up Moonlight. It has 8+ million viewers that were devastated when CBS (unwisely) decided not to renew the show that was unlike anything else out there. The fans will follow the show ANYWHERE as long as it gets picked up. I think this would save the CW! Especially since the Twilight movie is coming out, and everyone is going to go vampire crazy. It's a quality show that appeals to the 18-34 demographic, so, why not take the leap and make millions of fans happy?
Try to bring Sara Michelle Gellar to the set! Her type of character that she had in Cruel intentions (beeing a bitch), fits Gossip Girl

CW has a great show in Supernatural, but it would be great if they screened the show, Moonlight, which was cancelled by CBS.
Nobody wants to se shows designed to make us jealous. Make a show about normal teens of varying races. I don't want to see Paris Hitlon rich, fake people on tv. We're going into a recesssion. Nobody aspires to be Paris Hilton. I'm sick of GG and their rich people fantasies. Would it also kill them to have a non-white regular in the show, non-white people do exist in America you know. Anyway I should be careful what I wish for the non-whites character will just be some stereotype anyway. Either a 'sassy' black woman or gang-banging, wise cracking hispanic or black man or 'studious' boring Asian so on second thoughts just leave it all white.
The made things too dramatic and sexual for the target audience, so it just wasn't realistic enough.
Moreover, the stike has hurt a lot, and there was no continuaty and they changes details- for example S lost her virginity twice, They have forgotten plot lines and went too far with adult behavior…
Cool it down with the exaggeration and the "class" clashing theme. This is America, not England of 1800 and there is a social mobility thing and people don't talk like that ("I need a king, not a servant…").
Recently, CBS reported a major mistake in releasing Moonlight, and CW would SKYROCKET if it picked it up!!! With the popularity and following that Moonlight has, it would make any networks ratings jump through the roof, because rest assured who ever picks up this show, the fans WILL FOLLOW IT WHERE EVER IT GOES.!!! too many people have been loyal to it….i know I have bought every episode on iTunes!!!….go to all of the websites, fan pages and blogs. This show has a LOYAL FAN BASE!!!
Oh and if the CW fucks over Supernatural like they did VM I will not be pleased. Gossip Girl like the O.C. I can see it losing it's charm. When they did the whole Marisa is a lesbian crap I tuned out and missed an entire season. Best thing that ever happened in the O.C. was the killing off of Marisa and the whole show revolving around her arse.

If CW really want to boost their ratings by about 8 million, all they need to do is pick up Moonlight off CBS! This show would instantly be their biggest hit!
Moonlight was cancelled for no good reason-it gets between 7 and 8 million viewers, consistently ins the demo and the timeslot, and won a PCA! It would be perfect for CW!

Have you heard about a little show called Moonlight? Not so little actually, it won the PCA this year and has attracted a steady ~8m each week for CBS in Friday's "death slot", winning it's timeslot and helping CBS win the night on a regular basis.
This wasn't wnough for CBS so in a typical bonehead move they cancelled it.
If another network (say the CW) picked this show up, they would be guaranteed an ~8 million viewership, increasing for this one show by 3x their normal count.

CW could try picking up Moonlight that one of their parent companies, CBS, moronically chose not to pick up for a second season. Moonlight's ratings have been totally trashing Gossip Girl. It's 15th episode even had two shout outs for our very own Perez!

Moonlight has a vast amount of loyal fans (that donated blood to save the show, for crying out loud!) that would be willing to follow their show everywhere- and that's about 8million loyal fans. They watched every Friday, consistently making CBS win the timeslot. CW would gain an audience that is over three times that of their best rated show (which incidentally is Gossip Girl). Everyone would be the better for it, CW, the ardent Moonlight fans and the very gifted cast and crew.

I just can't seem to care about the characters in GG. Ill watch it if it is on when I tune in, but won't make a date to see it. I think you get nervous about getting invested in a show if it is always under threat of cancellation - like I am with Supernatural. I LOVE that show, it is one of the unsung heroes of CW, hardly get s any advertising but is turning out some amazing storylines and these boys are HOT. HOT I say.
They need to focus on advertisment and getting on talk shows. I used to watch the show but now i have no idea what's going on and when the show is even on!

CBS appears to have taken their stupid pills and canceled a show with tons of fans and that show even helped them win Fridays nights. Someone was on crack over there. AND sarena is boring! liven her up, and tell blake to act better. Leighten/Blair is the true star of this show, her character is fantastic and leigten does her chaacrter so well. MAKE sure Chuck is in ALL the episodes. Oh and stop the Vanessa/ Nate storyline ASAP, there screen time is CRAP and a waste of time- there just boring in every way possible. Nate was kind of ok with blair, blair made up for nates shit boring broody wannabe character, but vanessa just makes it worse and even more shitty.
and i guarantee you half the people on forums would agree with me, the true stars of this show are blair and chuck. stop making other charcters dull and introducing regulars fro next season (coughmichellecough)- coz there SHIT
